A lesbian lead, necromancer in space, with plenty of dark humor, and body horror? That sounds right up my ally. I got this book as a gift today, and now I’m excited to read.

One of the best lines in the book was when Isaac tells her "You don't speak the way I thought you would."

I only looked for reviews BC I wanted to see other peoples opinions on Gideon the ninth BC i LOVED IT. I downloaded it on audible without any expectations and was blown away. There were many moments that I had to stop what I was doing BC j laughed so much. I adore Gideon's humour and the writing style and if anyone is interested in the audiobook, go for it! I personally really enjoyed the narrator. Anyways I'm excited for the second book and can't wait^^

I'm a year late to this conversation, but I love genre blends! I have read primarily mysteries & thrillers my entire life so when I started trying to branch out, I found it really comforting having familiar elements in new genres. It helped me expand my reading comfort zone and discover new favorites without being too intimidated.

Not for me, but I SO appreciated finally seeing a review of this. It's so hyped but no one was actually reviewing it. Hope you are having a lovely weekend

Though I was initially interested in this with all of the hype, I've decided that it actually probably wouldn't work for me! I think it has a lot of elements that don't typically work for me. Great review!

Greetings!! I am reading Gideon The Ninth right now and so far I am really enjoying it, so far for me its 4 stars..some of Gideon's comeback lines are very good and she is a great fighter... I am very happy about this book!!!

I just finished Gideon the Ninth and I also took away from it that it was pretty light on the lesbian element. I'm still reflecting on whether that means that calling it "lesbian necromancers in space" is an inaccurate or misleading pitch. Thanks for sharing.

Loved the genre-blend! Hadn't expected the mystery component and found it so hard to put down.

I havent read enough genre blend to really know for sure but I dont think I would be opposed. I've been waffling about this book and considered preordering it and I think I'll check out the preview like you said. I hate when things are pitched to be sensational but have little to do with the story. like every book that has a magic school is the new Harry Potter. what makes me want to read this more now is gideon's casual appreciation of women like you said. as a lover of pulp fiction and spy novels it can get old to see women over sexualized and made to be dumb as a plot point. seeing a woman just be like right this woman is hot now who do I need to raise from the dead would be much appreciated, as opposed it just being men. I am more highly awaiting this despite not liking space bc I feel like there will be more mystery than science behind gravitational pull.

Yes! It was a fun change seeing a woman casually interested in women instead of a man. And I’m with you, not sure why people haven’t been discussing the actual story? Definitely check out the preview!
