This video was really funny and I loved the film comparisons as well. A note on the ‘orgy’ moment, it didn’t always have sexual connotations, but was also used to mean an over abundance or excess of something. So during Barry’s time it would have come across as fairies leaving a lavish party. Peter Pan is such a unique book and I really love it, I also love the darker retellings that exist. I hope you have a gorgeous day!!!

Thank you for sharing such an insightful overview/review of both the book and film adaptations! I’ve watched both films but never read the book. I hadn’t fully appreciated how dark/inappropriate certain scenes would be for young children, but like you said, it’s perhaps a generation thing. Feel very compelled to pick it up and give it a read ☺️✨

Your reviews are always so homely mate. Not sure what it is about it but I always feel like you're welcoming me into a log cabin in winter, offering me a warm drink and sitting me down by the fire to talk books. It's a very pleasant experience 🤣. This was a great review and such a great point about the Grimm's fairytales. I think the traditional idea of childhood is fairly modern isn't it? I can't remember exactly where I heard that but it makes sense that as the social contract has evolved so too has the attitude towards childhood and what they should be exposed to. I've never read Peter Pan and really can't remember much about the disney version even though I'm sure I would have watched it. When it came to Disney I was more obsessed with Lion King, Robin Hood and for the life of me I can't remember if it's Disney or not but I know I watched The Fox And The Hound over and over again even though it emotionally destroyed me. Interesting that they "dispose" of the boys that grow up though I had no idea murder played a part in the Peter Pan universe. Neverland Murder Mystery anyone? Just me? Okay I'll get my coat.

Aw that’s so kind, thank you so much! I do aim for the cosy vibe. I know what you mean, attitudes towards ‘childhood’ have definitely changed as time has gone on. You definitely don’t see the murder in the films, I’ll tell you that much haha! But the book was darker than I anticipated for sure. Thanks for watching!

The word Orgy first came into English in the middle of the 16th century in reference to secret ceremonial rites, particularly those of the Romans and ancient Greeks, it also was used in the 19th century to describe such things as an assembly of garish colors or a spectacle of destruction. If that ain't it, them fairies are freak deaky. 🤣🤣 Also, lovely video. I enjoyed the break down.

Isn’t it strange how words change their meanings over time? I’m hoping the old meaning is the one that Barrie meant 😂 Thanks so much for watching!
