Really comprehensive review. It's good that you don't seem to penalize characters/writers/stories for not doing what 'you' want them to do. Rather, you read the story that's in front of you on its merits vs compared to how you would've liked to have seen it done. I think Tau is a great character. A lot of reviewers lose sight of his age; the fact he's going against his nature; and the fact (I believe) that he doesn't believe he'll survive his path of vengeance. Thia\s further explains his attitude, detachment with larger social issues and any possible changes he could initiate. This is foreign to him as he doesn't see himself or life past his revenge. A lof of other reviewers (who complain about tropes and cookie characters) express frustration with him and all of their proposed fixes are the very tropes they claim to be tired of. Dragon

Definitely agree, I loved how we get to see him acquiring his powers and putting in the work. The book was super addictive. Even though the characters were very plain and indistinguishable aside from their names, I really enjoyed the story
