100% agree with all the things you've said, I'm also lucky enough to have a strong history department, I got an A in my end of year 12 mock so I'm aiming for an A*- hoping to study it further to become a lecturer :D I do Russia: Lenin to Yeltsin, Mao's china and Wars of the Roses so I'm absolutely loving it.

I’m a massive fan of quizlets and flashcards for modern history; distill your textbook down into key facts and statistics and then memorise them alongside the key dates so you’ll have examples in essays. Make sure you can compare across the different leaders, as Russia is a breadth study, so essays will usually be comparison based. If you look in your textbook or online, you’ll be able to find essay plans- I made flashcards with plans for as many as possible bc there’s only so many things they can actually ask you?? So if you memorise the key info in a way that can easily be turned into essay answers, and also use the mark scheme to your advantage to understand what gets marks!!

I never did my exams (lol so lucky) but I’d been doing practice exam Qs since December year 12 as homework, then January year 13 I started doing extra ones as revision. But I never got the chance to do a full exam timed paper I don’t think? Was more than 2 years ago can barely remember?
