It makes sense because the character was based on Scott Peterson, who had a famous resemblance to Ben Affleck. So, Ben was playing a fictional character based of a real person who is his doppelgänger.

Describing clothing and physical looks in detail in books gives me SUCH fanfic vibes (in a bad way!). Unless it's important to the world-building or the character, I don't need to know at all thanks because I'll make up what they look like myself. Clawdia had A LOT to say in this video 🤣

They are dark, which I really like. I just read The Haunting of Maddy Clare this week. Also, a solid 4 stars. I am working my way through Simone St. James books. I have two more from Libby now. I, too, have not had a banger 5 star M/T read. Although I am doing better because I read a lot of really good ones. Enjoying watching your journey. I have one more Gillian Flynn book to read. Dark Places. I hope she does more books.

You need to start reading literary thrillers. I feel like there's a very clear distinction between the mystery thrillers being published right now. Previously even popcorn thrillers could have good writing. Now anything with bad writing seems to be deliberately pushed to become the sensational titles and everything else with remotely good writing gets tagged with literary thriller. I'm not complaining though, I love them and makes it easier to find Mystery thrillers with good writing. Here are some I recommend (warning - they tend to be slower and less dramatic than the popcorn thrillers) - The God of the Woods, Snap, Long Bright River, The Crooked Tree, Birnam Wood, The Girls, Boy Parts, Penance

2015, that's not so bad, I thought, it was only 5 years ago, I thought and then I realized... D: No shade to you, I'm just having that common feeling of "where did the time go". I'm saving Gone Girl because I've read everything else by Gillian Flynn... I hear Clawdia loud and clear. 😅 My family had a cat who was also chunky and his name was derived from that fact, and he loved being as close to our faces as possible when cuddling and would headbutt a lot. He was a white kitty and shed fur a lot so it would be hard to breathe! I love love love when you feature your cats!

Great, you got a new fave :D Was about time, right? The cats know their stuff. When have their cuddles ever led you astray? Their cuteness for the win :D Please don't use the word psychopath to describe how someone rings a doorbell. It's weird, maybe, but I've lived with a person with antisocial personality traits and it's insanely scary and traumatising. And that person was diagnosed with autism. I don't think that diagnosis fits though. I have autism too (and person in question is my dad). If you want see what the thought patterns can be like try the romance Return Billionaire to Sender by Annika Martin. It starts off with the male love interest getting court sanctioned/mandated empathy lessons. I don't think that book should've been published as a romance, especially since the female lead thinks she can fix the dude who likes destroying living spaces and watch people get homeless. The Black Swan thingy the dude thinks about at one point? My dad used to do that too, to hurt us in place it would hurt most. This is why I just found regular verbal bullies annoying, they never hit the spot my dad did because they didn't know me that closely. And ugh to the cheating. Would put it down almost as quickly as a book with accidental pregnancy driving the romance.

I feel you sooo much with Never Lie!! One of the worst thrillers I ever read. I read it after seeing the very high rating it has and I was thinking the whole time “why do so many people love this?”. The writing is bad, the portray of the psychologist is terrible, and the plot twist makes absolutely no sense and has no coherence whatsoever with the overall story. My theory is that this book got really popular between people completely new to the genre or just starting out their reading journey, ‘cause if you are a thriller reader or honestly you read even a few of them, they’re all better than this one 😅 Now I need to read Gone Girl, I was hesitant after knowing the “plot twist” by seeing the movie but seeing your experience I think I will genuinely like it regardless 🥰

I knew before you started that you would dislike The Perfect Marriage if bad writing (like McFadden’s) bothers you. Don’t think I made it past the first chapter. Getting it as a free read on my Kindle made it easy to DNF/delete. And as to repetitive writing (like using “swoon” too often)- one of my favorite things to do when reading on my tablet is a search when it seems like some phrase is being used annoyingly often, in order to prove to myself I’m not imagining things😂

I’m a big fan of the mystery/thriller genre, but I completely agree that they can be a bit trashy and badly written. But I believe there are some that rise above the pack. I recently read “In The Woods” by Tana French and it quickly became one of my favorite books ever. I found the character work, writing style, and emotional resonance to be way above the average level in the genre. I also read the next book in the series, “The Likeness”, which was also excellent. I’m also a big fan of the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo, which consists of 13 books that maintain a consistently high level of quality. Though if you are interested in that I recommend starting from the third book in the series, “The Redbreast”, since the general consensus among fans is that two first aren’t up to the standards of the rest of the series, and don’t contain much of consequence.

@@raquellima3632 Oh OK, I wasn’t aware of that! Yeah when it comes to Tana French I’ve heard some very conflicting opinions, so I guess she can be pretty polarizing. I absolutely love what I’ve read from her so far, but I completely understand people who don’t.

You might need to invest in some quality earplugs, if Clawdia(Claudia?) is waking you up with her crying for food. My ears itch horribly with the regular foam ones, but I've had good luck with Loop plugs. There's probably some others out there to try, too.

These are my 5 star books of the year: Pet by Cathrine Chidgey Monstrilio by Gerardo Samano Cordova ( horror) We used to live here by Marcus Kliewer ( more like horror) All her fault by Andrea Mara ( set in Dublin ) A great country by ship I samaya Gowda The God of the woods by Liz Moore 4 stars Nanny needed by Georgina Cross ( I put this because I still remember the plot and I enjoyed the reading)

The worst part about Frieda McFadden is that she became popular on KU and then got published. (At least I think that's what happened) So it's not even a marketing machine making her popular like with some of those bland Reese Witherspoon book club thrillers (the last thing he said etc) I listened to Never Lie on audio and it made the terrible writing slightly less noticeable but I still gave it 2 stars.

You know... her books definitely give bad self published books so I can totally see this! So many fantastic books out there, it's annoying that hers are getting so much publicity. Especially since a lot of people are saying they seem VERY "INSPIRED" by other ones :/
