Sadly....College football needs salary caps. How interesting would it be if it included coaches salaries in the cap.....
@tomneff70309 күн бұрын
I remember reading an article about 7 or 8 years ago about how coaches salaries..beginning with what Bama was giving Saban and what would ensue because of what the article insinuated was obscene money for ANY coach...would eventually contribute to college players demanding to be paid.At the time I remember thinking...no way.Itll never happen. How.wrong I was.So the very coach whose absurd salary contributed to this problem...retired because of a problem that began with him and his salary. Now you have 5 or 6 coaches whose salary deals are North of 100 million.
@txkevin34679 күн бұрын
@tomneff7030 just think of the parity and strategic planning that would occur if there was a cap included coaches.....pay for the best players....or get the best coaches.
@tomneff70309 күн бұрын
@txkevin3467 Yes.Imagine that.They'll have to implement some kind of cap for both...or the rich will keep getting richer...and the sport of college football will eat itself. In 2 or 3 years we'll have a good idea moving forward. And what's gonna happen when a lot of these athletes genuinely turn out to overpaid busts.If they are not getting a return on their investment...what then?

Market value is the best term. Think of it this way: the new latest console (Playstation, Xbox, etc.) costs $500 in the store based on the price set by the manufacturer. That $500 price is what the market has determined the value to be for the console. A gamer REALLY wants to be one of the first people to own that console. However, due to demand, they aren't able to buy one from a store (the traditional way). They go on the secondary market and pay $1,000 because they decided that it was worth the money to meet their need to be first. They paid $500 over market value for a product because they wanted it more and couldn't get it through traditional means. Desperate colleges with too much money are doing the same thing. They couldn't recruit the player the traditional way and wanted them anyway, regardless of the cost. So drop money on the problem. I have no doubt that LSU and others have a formula for how much the average NIL deal is for various position groups. That would be the market value. A players asks for more than that average, LSU has a decision on how much that player means to them. Hope this helps.

I thought the same thing about the market value but thinking of the other side wouldn't market value be more of an average? Like collectors and auctions for example a piece could be worth $10k but this dude really wants this piece to complete his collection so he paid $18k for that item so he paid more than market value, that doesn't mean the market value number changes for other people. That's what's happening in the college football teams are paying way outside of market value for players based on what they want and need. Overall it's a mess. I'm glad the kids are getting paid but the structure of it all is bonkers. And I'm not saying what me or what BK said is correct, i just think that's what he's getting at
@cherigremillion51819 күн бұрын
This quarterback Underwood is not guaranteed to be a good quarterback in college just because he's paid a lot. Matter of fact I hope he sucks and that dude wasted his money. May not hurt him that much because he's a billionaire but it will still make him think next time he wants to double someone else's offer. He may tell his self maybe I shouldn't put up all this money on a kid that's unproven, or he may keep doing it. But I still hope Michigan suffers at the quarterback position because of what this billionaire did.

There are only 32 each year for all of college football so 2 is way above average. There are very very few that will have 3-4 of them and that is usually Georgia Alabama and a Michigan or Ohio State.

@jazzbrownie09 күн бұрын
I can't see this class as anything other than a disappointment. They got a couple of dudes, but this is significantly worse than it looked a few weeks ago. Moving the goalpost from "top three class, best LSU class of all time" to "hey, we still got top ten" is kinda sad. Top ten should be the floor, a "you did the bare minimum required by your job" sort of class. Passing with a C is still passing, but it's not worth celebrating.

Given the uphill climb against big $$$$ donors, I think LSU held their own. The next few years of continued change should prove interesting.

@michaeltolivar46469 күн бұрын

@Escape.Velocity9 күн бұрын
Haha i think BK just misspoke. I think that he meant most teams will value players roughly equally per position but teams who are desperate at that position are willing to vastly overpay in order to mitigate that weakness. So it's not really that players are going for "way above market value," it's more that the market is unregulated and uncapped, therefore it is having a lot of trouble finding an equilibrium. When you have a 6 million dollar deal for a QB on the table for a year but then a billionaire comes in and doubles that at the 11th hour by dropping 12 million bones on a kid that lives right down the street, it completely changes the state of the QB market. That 12 million number was public and now all these kids saw it. So while LSU is thinking they've got a generous 6 million dollar offer on the table for a year - all of a sudden the market says, "no actually that number is only half of what you need to be competitive" because now every QB wants what Bryce Underwood just got. BK is saying it is very difficult to account for something like THAT happening when you're trying to work within a budget and plan for revenue sharing.
@jonathanm56619 күн бұрын
Revenue sharing won’t make NIL go away. It’s not the solution to this problem. Kids will just make even more money with revenue sharing. They will get paid directly by the school now AND they will still get NIL deals.

@@stephendileo641They can make the playoffs some years as long as they keep recruiting top 10 classes. But we won’t win a NC title again in this wild west NIL era. BK may be a problem with winning a title but he’s not the only problem. LSU can’t compete with enough money to fill all their roster holes each year so they can win a title. We’ll always have holes. Because Texas and others will out bid us for pieces we need each year.

overpaying for one player is one of the quickest and easiest ways to wreck a program, i saw a study on nfl teams trying to do it and.. paying huge salaries to incoming unproven top prospects almost never pays off because you're just giving up way too many resources that could be used to buy other players, your team won't have any other good players if we pay 13 mill, we are giving up literally like 5-10 other GOOD players salaries, you are not worth 5-10 other GOOD starters on the team, its just extremely rare to find a guy who will have that level of impact, you will wreck your program real quick doing that
