In this video I explain how to dominate with 3rd ball attacks.
This is where you serve, your opponent returns and you strongly attack the next ball, aiming to finish the point or become the dominant player in the rally.
There are two main categories of 3rd ball attack I discuss in the video - 'power' 3rd ball attacks and 'spin' 3rd ball attacks. Both are useful, but require a slightly different approach.
The footage in the video is from a recent tournament we held at Cambridge-Parkside Table Tennis Club. There are examples of me doing 3rd ball attacks, and examples of my opponents doing 3rd ball attacks against me.

Could you make some material about backhand flick like Lin Yun Ju. When and how to use it. When keep bat flat, when one should increase the angle. How to flick ball with backspin, topspin, no-spin ball? Thank you!

Hi Tom ! I'd like a video explaining the chop sidespin during a rally For example I do a chop serve, then my opponent make this weird shot and if I chop it again the ball flies in one direction and I can't attack 'cause it has lots of backspin and is close to the table

Check this video from Tom: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpncp6B4eLBgnbc It is not exactly what you want, but I believe there are common grounds between returning a side-backspin serve and a side-backspin push (what your opponent returns).

Hi Tom - great video. Hope things are starting to return to normal for you. I'm hoping to start entering more tournaments here in the States soon. Covid is still pretty bad in my State but things are slowly getting better. Stay safe and well. Looking forward to more videos.

Yes, everything is feeling much more normal (for the time being). Local leagues and tournaments have restarted. My local league restarts in November. The table tennis club is very busy. So all good at the moment. Hope you sign up to a tournament soon. Let me know how you get on!

The last tip "It's okay to mess up" is the best. After 1 mistake, I'm already backing off and getting scared to try...
@TomLodziak

Yes, you must keep trying. I often miss the first two or three 3rd ball attacks. But even these misses can have a psychological impact on your opponent - as it shows your attacking intent. Your opponent may become more passive as a result of your missed attacks. This will give you more opportunities to keep on attacking.

Hello Tom! I enjoy listening to all of your new content since a long time already. Do I see you regularly using a TSP Black Balsa 7.0 blade? It seems like it is very personal to you. What rubbers do you use on that blade?
@TomLodziak
@TomLodziak 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have this blade with Ventus Spin. It's a custom made bat from Bribar: bribartt.co.uk/product/bribar-pro-offensive-light-table-tennis-bat/?ref=8204 - I sometimes use this bat when coaching others and when filming to camera. But I also give it to my kids to use when I play with them, as the blade is very light and easy to hold.
@adamszabo2139
@adamszabo2139 2 жыл бұрын
That should be a really featherweight configuration (maybe up to 145g?), as I remember, Ventus Spin sheets weigh around 42g when cut to a normal size blade. Do you have other configurations, which you use frequently in your trainings and matches? I would happily hear your thoughts about table tennis equipment you already familiar with.

@@adamszabo2139 I'm currently trying the new JOOLA Dynaryz ZGR rubber on my FH. It is a hybrid rubber - very tacky but with extra bounce. I don't normally play with tacky rubbers, but this is very nice to play with. I'll be writing a review about this soon.
