Boost Video | Grand National Dash Gauge Removal and Speedometer Cable Replacement

Working on Astroroof’s interior this week and finally nailed down my speedometer issues! This video was longer than intended but I hope it helps!

Man this was a big help for a completely different reason lol. I have an 84 GN that was originally a digital dash car but someone swapped it out for a regular cluster at some point in its life (digital dash probably broke). But I LS swapped the car and integrated everything to the factory dash that’s in it and I’ve been debating finding the correct digital dash for it but wasn’t sure if all the connectors were the same. And your video cleared all that up for me so its much appreciated! On a side note though, the other thing I’ve been trying to find is a picture of the connector that goes to the defrost switch. A previous owner removed mine and some point and I can’t find any loose connectors that would be for it. You were almost there and even talked about the defrost switch but I was bummed when you moved on lol. But you don’t by chance have any pictures/videos or could possibly get me some of the defrost switch and the connector/wires that go to it can you?? I’ve been searching it for months with no luck so I’d be forever grateful if you can help me out with that!

I took my dash out a few years ago from my 87GN, and I forgot how to put it all back, LOL, and I was lucky I found your video here and THANKS for reminding me on how to get the speedometer back. AND just purchase the same cable. Dude,, seriously , THANKS for this video! AND Lets GO BEARS!

That "dimmer switch" as you called it is actually rear window defogger switch!

I have noticed on Digital cars - only warnong light that illuminates on start up is the check engine - on my 87 Regal Limited I do get a Voltage and Choke on the left side when starting

Ha ha I tried to separate my cable and it was also a no go! My trip meter doesn't work but speedo does but it squeaks so badly! I might try and remove the cluster again now after seeing how the connectors go! Great video! Need any help let me know! Not that I'm a expert but the buick community is very good about helping out!

yes my rear defog switch is a little flimsy. I sometimes have to tap it several times to turn off and on.

86 regal digital gas gauge not reading the gallons. Showing -- on display. What can be the problem? It use to work fine before i had somebody work on the car.

Most likely causes: 1. Shorted level sensor 2. Speedo rebuild needed from Casper Electronics

Thanks bro for the video, my dash is like yours digital dash. It was working then I let the car set for awhile and when I got back to her the gauges didn’t work. They first started to blink or half way light? I’m wondering if it’s the ground or maybe not plugged in on the back of the speedometer? Anyhow I guess it’s got to come apart. What’s your opinion from what I told you? And when I bought the car the owner said that Casper’s had redone the dash so I’m hoping that’s the case and it’s a simple ground? Possibly the ground, however these dashes are finicky. Make sure your lights are off when testing, otherwise the dash will be dim to the point it’ll look like it’s off. I have had good luck using a heat gun on the circuit board to reflow the solder and repair a broke connection. May be worth a try. I wonder what’s the warranty with a Casper repair? Maybe it’s lifetime 🤞Hope it helps!

Great video🎉 do you have a video on installing a fuel gauge? mine is not very accurate and need help with wiring and ohm on the sending unit

I don’t think I recorded it. You may already know this but turbo Buicks have two different fuel sending units depending on whether it’s a digital dash or analog dash. Usually you can remove the sending unit and clean the “sweep” and it’ll read more accurately. Digital dash is 0-120 ohm and analog is 0-90 ohm

@@CRASHBERN I see because today I unplugged the 3 wire harness by the fuel tank and put my ohm meter to the pink and black wires and it was at 138.6 ohms and the tank was completely full but my car is analog. So i thought it was kinda weird.

Where does the ground cable go connected to on the back of the dash bro?

Good question. I believe one end goes to the metal dashboard frame. The other side goes to the driver side bottom of the speedo
