I ran a 996 turbo for 6 years.....and the only real worry was “what if the engine goes pop”....yeah I know it’s the mezger, and it’s “bullet proof”.....but every now and again a massive blue cloud on start up would sow that seed of doubt in my mind.....yeah apparently they all do that.....but....it’s the one thing on the car I couldn’t have afforded to get fixed if it did go. If it had a turbo k24 I could have happily ran it at 500bhp, knowing if it did go pop I could replace it for a 1000 dollars and been back on the road within a week. This conversion just makes so much sense to me.....and even more on a non mezger model.....especially as blown engine examples are available....and a k swap probably comes in at far less than a quality rebuild....but once done can be used daily without fear of a massive bill popping up one day.

I think you need to stop apologizing for your car man! It's an AWESOME ride and unique swap! I'm definitely considering going this same route just so I can get into an affordable 911 that's not a 996! I think you should embrace the hate from the "purists" as you stomp them in a race! Would be cool to watch you beat on a 997 around the track next year!

Thanks for comparing the weight. So many people don't factor this into performance numbers, but power-to-weight is so important. Ironic you're talking about this modded N/A 911. I'm doing similar mods to my Cayman this week and yes, it is $$$$, but cheaper than a custom turbo with all the supporting mods and cheaper than a GT4 😉. While a turbo is appealing, an uncorked N/A flat 6 sounds better IMO.

I fully plan to do a k24 in my 997 C4 if the engine ever goes. $20k+ to fix the original, or have a lighter, more powerful, and more reliable engine? It’s a no brainer to me. I don’t think the K sounds quite as good, but it doesn’t sound bad at all. Great work!

Yes please! I have a 99 Boxster and I'm really curious to know if the engine fits. Even better would be to swap the Honda transmission like they are doing in the MR2s. I can afford a Honda box that will hold 600 HP, not sure if I can say the same about the Porsche transaxle.

Awesome video comparison! Very interesting that the Turbo K is quite similar in weight distribution. The torque deficit kinda sucks, 50ft/lbs that low would be missed but 100+ whp in the upper end helps make up for it lol. And who TF doesn’t k ow the difference between crank and wheel hp! gtfo! Lol

How is the handling effected by swapping out the flat 6 for a taller engine?
@tuul752 жыл бұрын
K24 is slightly taller, but also 150 ish lbs lighter. So probably no significant change to handling. Less weight over the rear wheels may make the car drive more like a mid engine than rear engine feel

I'm more concerned about the owner spending $10k and having less than 10hp more than your factory 3.8L....

His is not factory. It's a turbo K24 swap. Turbo vs N/A power.
@JD-rq7il2 жыл бұрын
@@DC5Brandon that's not what I said. Nick's stock 3.8 made like 301whp, this one made like 311whp. The dude spent 10k on carbon fibre crap....
@efiniGTX2 жыл бұрын
Well yes 10k to get 10hp over stock does sound stupid, but not if the cost of another 3.8 was more than 10k. The K24 will be cheaper to gain HP than the stock engine. Porsche mods are usually all high dollar items. At the end the K made over 100hp over stock
@JD-rq7il2 жыл бұрын
