These are a game changer. Just gonna be a small percentage that can experience it for now. I’ve been saying to myself ever since I experienced Haptic Feedback on my PS5 controller I wanted something like that implemented into all my sim gear. Like the wheel, pedals, the seat. Haptic style feedback feels really nice I think and if it’s a stronger sensation the better. These pedals have impressive feedback plus the mechanical movement which is pretty awesome. So cool. Great review! For those of us with a lot of money to burn, they seem an excellent all-in-one solution. Not just for sim racing, but possibly for flight simming as well! Having two pedals act as if they are mechanically linked, like rudder pedals, should be fairly straightforward to make possible via a software upgrade. Switching out racing pedals for rudder pedals would be a thing of the past. As is using a mechanically sprung clutch and accelerator together as a rudder, which is an imperfect solution. For people running a dual set up and shopping in the top segment, this could be an added feature, if Simucube were to implement a “linked”-mode.

Im really looking forward to that tactile transducers versus the Simucube pedals video. I assume that the throttle vibrations can just as well be conveyed through tactile transducers. You would probably not get the „fighting against ABS“ feeling in the brake but maybe the vibration is enough to make you feel what’s going on and therefore make you as fast. Though I expect the improvement to take longer since interpreting vibrations is not as intuitive as interpreting force, it might be the same in the end.

If there's one thing I've learnt through testing so many different types of hardware through so many different price brackets it's that your brain is amazingly good at filling in the blanks. I do think there's still a lot of unrealised potential in the simucube pedals though. For example they dont yet respond to brake fade and alter their feel dynamically but it's certainly possible to do.

You are probably right, the motors themselves are actually pretty cheap but it is not easy to to make them smooth when external force is applied and they have to counteract. I might try experimenting with these motors. Maybe I can build such a pedal. But I probably need to buy little Servo motors instead of using the stepper motors I have laying around. First of all, I will try to replicate the effect with tactile transducers. I already ordered one for my Brake.

I hear you on the unfair advantage but this isn’t really just limited these pedals. Equipment really does matter and I know I’ve gotten faster as I have steadily upgraded my rig. Take triple monitors, the wider FOV is massive in terms of avoiding collisions, seeing apexes, etc. But talent matters too and I’m never going to be an alien regardless of my equipment.
@Duke49th
@Duke49th Жыл бұрын
I am not sure if Equipment matters, if we talk about more than a decent FFB wheel and basic loaded cell pedals. I saw a video the other day from a young fella who is in the top 10 of iRacing drivers and he just uses the G25 or G27 with loaded cell pedals and a regular monitor with I think not even track IR. I can imagine that it helps beginners/intermediants more than it helps pro's.

I quit sim racing fairly quickly after buying my first wheel because I realized breaking feedback was needed in order to stop making breaking feel like a gamble. I think at this point, with someone willing to shell out that much for pedals, the difference in time is probably negligible. I can see this making a difference to an unexperienced driver, but when it comes to already having experience, I think these will help save a couple tenths, but not much more. The people who can afford these and are willing to purchase them are presumably already putting down heater laps, and these won't change that. I don't think we have anything to worry about when it comes to pay-to-win because at the end of the day it all comes down to skill and commitment. Great video, this makes me excited for the future!

So excited for this tech to start trickling down into price segments that are obtainable the way that DDs have. Every pedal manufacturer needs to be getting their hands on these for market research.

I love the idea of what these could potentially support, I mean imagine if instead of you tweaking the pedals to feel exactly as you decide you want them to feel, the sim can in real time change them so the pedal travel, force required to achieve x amount of brake pad actuation and linearity all match the actual car based on data the sim devs collected and then even things like brake fluid temperature and brake pad/disc condition can be fed in to alter the pedal behavior... or what if the clutch bite point actually moves to emulate a wearing clutch or under mechanical failures maybe the pedal falls to the floor etc... Although as amazing as these things are there will always be a guy in Scandinavia running an original Logitech G25 and a LawnChair(TM) sim rig who will go faster still :) it's always going to be immersion and consistency where these things come in which help you to learn a new car or track faster by feeding you more info.

It would be interesting to see if games could use this for a similar thing to how the Dualsense triggers are used in Wreckfest with traction control off. It lets you know when you are close to locking up or wheelspin by having the force required go up just before and then disappear almost completely once you go over it. The point this happens at is dynamic so if you're going in a straight line and slam on the brakes you can go hard then as you slow down you feel the loss of grip when the weight shifts backwards and know to ease off the brake. Same with using wheelspin to control a slide it lets you know how much throttle will break traction.

This sort of technology would be so useful in teaching someone to drive a stickshift car when used as a clutch. It would likely need a plugin for the game to take full advantage of the capabilities but the potential is just enormous in so many ways. I will be eagerly waiting for when I will be able to afford something like this one day.

Dialing in your settings is key to any wheel and pedall set, Im just having kitchen table setup with my my xbox1 logitec g920 but still taking the time to dial that in shaved of loads of laptime. I could'nt afford a hyper setup rig etc. and to me it does'nt matter, but if I had the money I would go mad with it.

8:55 Will, i think that sound is a linear rail carriage sliding back and forth. Ive used them in CNC machines. I spotted what looked like a carriage a bit earlier in the video. They have ball bearings in to slide along the rail, which i assume is whats making the noise. You may be able to quiet it slightly by using a different lubricant, but i dont know if that will change the pedal feel slightly.
@boostedmedia

Yep I think that’s exactly what it is. I incorrectly called it a worm drive in the video. It’s actually a linear actuator with a ball screw.

@@hellobooom with this being the first pedals with FFB, the design and software take a lot of time to make. That’s why these new things are always so expensive because you pay for all the development hours and because they have no completion at the moment.

Thank you for hitting on the price, but no matter how cool it would be to have it (and we all want them), they are crazy high price. Simucube devs has also made it clear the price will not be dropping. Another thing to, at least for me, that would be a deterrent also to not purchase them, is the main feature to these that even was shown here is the abs function, which is only being implemented into a few games at the moment. For many of us, if we could afford these even, play all the older titles as well, which at this price range not only are they eliminating most of us from owning or experiencing them, but they are also making a statement that is for the rich and the professional driver scene, which means most likely the pedals are not going to have all their extra features being shown in older titles.. I could be wrong, but if that is going to be the case, then what would be an even bigger reason to not purchase when you won't be getting their full features outside of three games.

Very interesting product! I think the only reason to use this for throttle is if you want to simulate old cars with cable operated throttle body where the friction settings might be important. As you said, you can have just engine vibrations for cheaper. However, for brake and clutch, the ability to freely adjust the force curve and to have ABS feedback seem really interesting. The price is tought. If they can cut the price 80-90% (obviously isn't happening too soon) then this would be no-brainer. And unfortunately, you will not see community support with this high prices.

That square curve would be super useful in cars without ABS. Set it up with a linear force just up to where you are close to lock up and then ramp up the force needed past that to help gauge where to brake.
