I was one of the first guys on track that came through that crash. It looked like a bomb had gone off. I couldn't see it was you, mate, and I'm bloody glad for that fact. Thanks for all the help you gave me at the TT, Boothy. You're a true gentleman and hard as all F and I'm so, so pleased to see you up and living life again.

Everyone hates to see bad things happen to good people. We love you Boothy. Hope your continued dedication and training combined with any bionic tech that comes along restores as much functionality as possible to your legs. It's impossible to pity a man who displays such fighting spirit. We instead ask ourselves, 'could I be so strong?'

Commiserations mate, I spent a year and a half in plaster, plated, then had a bone graft. Felt like someone smashing me in the shin with a steel bar, every time I stood up, Did I sweat! No drugs then, ( 1969) Suddenly, one day, about 3 months later, no pain! I couldn't understand what was missing for a while! Took 4 months work to bend my knee fully. I'm always grateful to Mr Busfield at Uxbridge Hospital for putting me back together. I still love being on a bike! I'm 73 now, had a knee replacement in 2022. Still loving life. Keep your chin up, it does get better, it just takes time. Find something to keep you occupied while recuperating. I made a couple of guitars!

3day old festival vag, 😅. We’re bikers, and our gallows humor will get us through everything. Boothy, I am so proud of you for this interview, most people couldn’t do this level of explanation in such a matter of fact way after losing a limb. Hats off to you mate, your fighting spirit is truly inspirational and I wish you all the best in life. I know you will fight and achieve everything that you ever wanted to, through sheer effort.

It's eerie hearing Boothy speak about his accident, hospitalisation and the rehab experience. I shattered both my femurs in 2019 and went through similar accounts, thankfully no amputations. The most important part is the wanting to get better. I have some stories I tell all my mates about those at rehab who you could tell by their mindset were not going to get better. If you have the drive to get back to a normal life you will make it happen. Thanks for sharing Boothy.

10th yr at the TT and we were so excited to see you with 44t this time. We walked round and round the paddock trying to find the camp. Found an empty spot next to DH and he politely said you'd "left". We knew what that must mean. Obviously it would have been in a press release if it had been terminal but that in between bit hit us hard. We looked out for every bit of info we could in the coming weeks. Our thoughts were with you the whole time. Best of luck with the rest of your recovery. You've already come a long way! :-)

Hope you are recovering well and thanks for sharing this. It shows what risks we take in doing road racing. I know a few people who have had life changing injuries from racing and a lot more who are no longer with us (Davey Morgan was in front of you on the one clip). Some of the seriously injured friends have gone on to do other things in life that they wouldn't have otherwise done though and are some of the toughest and most inspiring people you ever meet. With Aberdare only a couple of weeks away, I sometimes wonder if its all worth it, but you are spot on that road racing recalibrates your exhilaration threshold, to such an extent, that most other things are relatively boring and sedate. The one other thing that's similar in terms of excitement, total concentration and speed is aerobatics in an aeroplane, so see if your sponsor will take you up in one of those spitfires!

Boothy’s “that’s not a hospital” chat was so relatable. When I was younger I had a horrendous skiing injury and was airlifted to a French hospital and put in a 12 week coma. When I came out I thought the hospital was fake, was convinced the block of flats I could see out the window was the football stadium of my home town team, and that the light above my bed was a camera watching me.

Only just got around to watching this. Wasn't sure I wanted to having had a serious accident couple of years back. Was impressed with your attitude. What you said about some people wanting to get better and some not, struck a nerve. I remember a physio telling me she liked treating patients like me, as she knew I wanted to get better. It's taken nearly 2 years and took 11 months to get back on a bike, even though the physio back home had quoted 18. Stay strong Boothy. Keep at it, even through the dark days. Good luck, hope to see you on a bike in the future.

Boothy, i was at the TT this year and it was devastating to hear what happened, i have been a fan of 44 teeth for a long time and when i heard you were at the TT, it was great to hear but obviously really devastated to the outcome. I spent a lot of time last year in hospital, bed bound and i almost (almost) lost my leg but it was very close. I know what its like when you are in hospital, the good days, the many bad days, the many trips to theatre. Your strength right now is inspirational mate. Big love to you man.

Yes it’s a clichè, (pronounced cly chee), but Boothy you are an inspiration. You make me want to get out there, take on the world, climb the toughest mountain, wrestle a bear, a big bear, a proper angry fecker… Grrrrrrrrr. I won’t though because… well I can’t be arsed. But what I am more than happy to do, is tell you it’s great to see you back. Not just doing this interview, it’s just good to see you back having the craic with one of your mates. The best thing about 44Teeth for me, isn’t the great content. It’s watching genuine mates bounce of each other. The Budget Bike Battle of Britain being just one brilliant example. By the way is that job really completed, seeing as how it’s got Britain in the title and you only did England? Hopefully that was just season one? Be great to see you back in the saddle when you’re ready Boothy. Wishing you a quick and safe recovery.

Same leg missing as me, I had mine torn off after sliding feet first under a Cortina back in 1987. My other leg and foot were badly mangled, I had an external fixator in my left lower leg for nearly a year. On my false leg side I have a pin in from my hip to my knee and 3 long screws holding my hip to my thigh. There were lots of other injuries that kept me in Hospital for 6 months but it didn't stop me getting back on a bike on the road and track. Performance Bikes did and article on me back in 1994 or 1995. I still ride and have a MT10sp for the road and a R1m for track.. Don't let your dreams fade, keeep at it and stay strong.

The US version of the television program, “Survivor”, features a young lady this season with a similar prosthetic. She also is quite an inspiring young lady. You got this Boothy!

So happy to see the progress Boothy. Keep it up and keep that positivity. It’s infectious. I had an accident 2 weeks ago and it was mild in comparison. I didn’t break any bones for once. Well at least that I know of because there’s pain in places that weren’t examined when I was in the hospital. I did get a nasty laceration to the back of my leg that required surgery. My first surgery and set of stitches astonishingly. But I remember getting out of the ambulance and the emt explaining it to the nurse or whoever they are at intake of the trauma center. The way he explained it made me immediately think oh shit am I going to lose my leg? Because I didn’t feel like it was that serious. It actually hurt the least out of everything. And I immediately thought of Boothy and thought well he’s in good spirits still so that kept me positive. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought from his explanation. But just your talking about healing and the wanting to push on is perfect. Again no comparison. But it’s still inspiring to hear your thoughts. Get well soon Boothy I can’t wait to see your first ride back.
