I use to make an orange whipp for my aged parents at 10 am, and 3pm. Non Alcoholic, for it was a can of mandarin oranges, Aldis vanilla bean ice cream and orange juice. Into the container and bring the emulsion blender and after it's frothy. I pored into a pint glass and then a fruit juice glass. My parents at the early 80's were having difficulty to eat food also a shot of liquid vanilla flavoring and orange extracts add a bit more flavoring. But the last two items are an extra to add.

remember seeing the movie in the theater in 1980 (and many times on TV since). Belushi and Aykroyd were red hot then, coming off of Saturday Night Live where they performed a few times as the Blues Brothers. The drink in the film was not a bar drink. It was a commercially distributed soft drink served at snack bars. If you frequented roller rinks or bowling alleys in the 70s or 80s, you might have seen the drink circulating in the transparent reservoir of the Orange Whip dispenser.

That's true about roller rinks because I was in an out of date roller rink in the 90's and tried ordering one and got some weird concoction in a plastic red cup as if it were gag material. He did make the point however of saying Candy's version was his buddy's alcohol version and he just interpreted it via artistic license and obviously everyone who watches the movie or saw a John Candy movie in the 80's would believe; cop or not, his character was at that concert to party.

@@boozeontherocks Alright I experimented with some variation on this cocktail. First I tried it as is. Then I tried rum only and then vodka only. I prefer it with vodka only but also with an increase of the cointreau (so 1.5 oz vodka and 1 oz cointreau). It seems shaking the mix longer is also beneficial, you get more whipped cream texture coming into play. One could also add a dash of vanilla and white sugar with the heavy cream to get a little bit more texture and flavor out of it.

I've had seen The Blues Bros dozens of times.... but it was always on network tv (Usually Ch.9- WGN Chicago) so it was edited for time. Decades later I bought the DVD and saw the scene where Elwood quits his job and takes the can of spray adhesive. I was like "WHAAAAAA????" Where did THAT scene come from ?? 🤣

Yup...before walking into Elwood's apartment, he parks the Bluesmobile into a power station garage, climbs out the window and slides down the back window of the car, and shuts the doors. Used another can of glue he stole from his factory job and explained to Jake it was overcharged, and when the cop car would move, the tire would explode. Elwood then put it into a front tire of one of the cop cars.

The best way to make this in bulk would be to decide how many cocktails you want, then multiply the ratios by the number of cocktails you want. Drop it in a blender, add about .5 oz/15 ml of water per cocktail. and blend it up.

If I remember correctly, the drink didn't actually exist as an alcoholic beverage when he said it in the movie. It was a fountain drink and the costume guy's father provided it for the cast, so John Candy improvised the line. It's something along those lines

It is a variation on the Orange Julius signature drink dispensed through a dedicated machine. The actual recipe may have originated in Germany in the 20s. I can tell you the Orange Whip machines were ubiquitous in the American Midwest around 1980. They certainly would have had one at a theater in downstate Illinois.
