he made up the whole culture, he used roma gypsy village in a remote part of romania for his home village, throughout the movie borat spoke a mix of polish/hebrew and random gibberish, the foreign writing in pseudo-cyrillic script but the russian version, not even the eastern european version... his friend/business partner who accompanied him spoke armenian. the real kasakhs were mad about the misrepresentation when the movie first came out but now they embrace it for tourism.

Sascha Baron Cohen wants everyone watching their movies to be uncomfortable. If you piss everyone off its hard for them to accuse you of taking sides. I'm not saying there isn't any sort of bias because if you look and weigh comments and what groups they don't target in a negative way there are probably leanings. However the most unfortunate things that get said in this movie are the unscripted shots they get in my opinion. The writers give everyone a chance to make an ass out of themselves and some do a better job than others.

Yes, but he lost a lot of credibility in the last 10 years when he almost always refuses to troll the unicorn movements etc. He is very keen on trolling rightwings. But almost never ledtwings. So very much bias. His comedy is gold. But there is obvious underlying agenda in the last years of his newer clips. And there has been done a few documentaries exposing that he fakes a lot of his vids, by editing things out of context, reediting spundclips to match what he is after to make things scandalous etc etc. Borat2 was one example where there was a lot of manipulative editing. Borat2 movie is funny. But it was faked.

Actually it is often staged!. There has been sevetal video documentaries of how he STAGE and manipulate and edit things to give a bery different result than what actually happened. Even boiceovers, where he later changes the things that he said etc etc. And clips reactions from something else into reactions to what he wanted. So it IS often very staged. BUT you are correct that almost noone is actors. Only Sacha and some very few others do know the agenda. And it is still funny.

You two have been a constant source of entertainment and laughter for me, and I want to give something back. After seeing you enjoy "The Dictator" and this one, I want to recommend "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" if you haven't already seen it. In my opinion, it's the best Adam Sandler movie. Interestingly, Adam Sandler sat on that script for many years because it's based on the true story of a Mossad agent who faked his death and moved to America to become a world-class hairstylist. No studio initially wanted to risk upsetting Israel, but the long wait paid off. Sandler improved the script multiple times, resulting in a heartfelt and hilarious anti-hate movie. It encourages embracing your dreams, becoming your true self, and highlights that war benefits no one. Of course that movie is more relevant then ever at the moment. Love and Peace from Berlin, Germany

95 percent of this was unscripted and was actual reactions from people. Fun facts: the only time he broke character was off camera when he apologized and explained the movie to the old Jewish women, since sacha baren Cohen is a Jewish person himself, he couldn't go through that scene without explaining it to them. Azamat was an actor and one of the only people who knew what was going on. The Pamela Anderson kidnap bag scene was also a bit staged. Pamela Anderson knew what was gonna happen and she was ok with it. No one else, including her bodyguards knew what was gonna happen. Her bodyguards actually broke sachas collarbone taking him down. Lastly, the opening town in kazhakstan is 100 percent real. The fked up part though, is after they dragged the car away with the horses, the production crew just left the car about a half mile away and the people who lived there had to push it back by hand by themselves. Kazhakstan was initially pissed about this movie, but after it released in theaters tourism spiked almost 800 percent. Now they embrace the movie proudly. Final thought: hands down the best scene is the rodeo, absolutely no one knew about this at all, all of the reactions and conversations are 100 percent real.

@@Holilo7 Yes, I can understand what you are saying. I wondered if my age (67) and my culture (I am a French-speaking Quebecer) played a role in the fact that I did not find this humor interesting. I have no problem with social criticism, I just think there are more subtle ways to do it. But well, I appreciate your comment, it allows me to see this film differently.

It’s a satirical film that explores American culture especially its prejudices and absurdities. I first watched the film in theaters in San Francisco, and the naked fight scene was one of the best moments. I remember everyone in the audience was laughing out loud throughout.

Azamat is actually Armenian and was speaking Armenian and Borat was speaking Hebrew and they pretended to be speaking Kazakh which is a Turkic language! 🤷‍♂️

In 2012 when Khazak athlete Mariya Dmitriyenko won her gold medal at the 75 target event at the 10th Arab Shooting Championship in Kuwait, instead of hearing her country's national anthem, she heard a remake done by Borat. 😂😂😂 Kazakstan has since embraced the movie and even had a tourism campaign with the slogan “Kazakstan: It’s Nice!”

90 percent of this movie is real interactions and Sacha Baren Cohen is the most sued man on earth because of this film. A millennial american staple though.

Oh lord guys please remember their religious believes and morals b4 suggesting movies. This to them was like someone suggesting 2 girls one cup to the average American. The average American would not really like to see that.

It's using stereotypes (some not very far from the truth) of how "backwards" ex-soviet countries in the "-stans" area were. Also mixed with Balcan stereotypes (the village shown for example as Kazakhstan is Romanian gypsy village)

Most businesses especially big business has a set price but *slight* bartering is acceptable at smaller businesses if you know the person. For example at my small local business if the price is 21.35 and you only have 20 and I know you or like you, I can work with that. The price is 100 and you want to give me 90? No, absolutely not, under any circumstance.

Sacha spoke a mixture of Polish, and Hebrew to give both a Middle Eastern, and a Slavic touch to his character. Which is meant to fit the ascetic of Kazakhstan since it’s part of the Middle East, Russia, and Central Asia. Most Americans tend to be very ignorant of Muslim countries, and they won’t catch on to words like Yakshimash. Borat is a very ignorant, and offensive character. So it’s even funnier when he meets a real person who is genuinely ignorant, and bigoted. This movie exposed tons of people, holds the record for the most sued actor, got several people fired after getting exposed, and led to the divorce of Pamela Anderson.

Guys, this whole movie is real, there are no actors, it is not staged. Borat filmed it with real people, and he got sued over it multiple times. The only one who was an actor in the movie was Pam Anderson, she was In on it. Everyone else were just regular people in America. That's what makes it so funny.

Sasha Baron Cohen uses a lot of stereotypes, some offensive, some embarrassing and uncomfortable to provoke all sorts of responses, from bigoted to straight up offended, I’m not sure you could handle Bruno, that film is so uncomfortable, but also hilarious, not many people know he’s acting a part and believe he’s a real person doing a documentary.
