Borderlands 3 Vladof Non-Unique Item Guide - The Purple Box

The Purple Box is a series in which I chronicle and test every non-unique gun in Borderlands 3 to showcase weapons that you probably often overlook! In this episode, we take a look at Vladof, the manufacturer specializing in fire rate over all else with the addition of every weapon coming equipped with underbarrel attachments to alter the course of lead delivery.
For more information, this series will be testing the named variants of all non-unique weapons. This means not every part combination/prefix, but weapons that hold specific names for each of the manufacturers. Every weapon is showcased on the same Zane build running through the intro section of True Maliwan Takedown on Mayhem 11.

Look at how they massacred my boy!.... Seriously, I thought I was tripping when I 1st played BL3. The very 1st gun you get outside of the early pre-order weapons is a knot, and I remember holding it, shooting it, and realized it didn't feel good. A white vladof pistol on cake enemies still felt bad. I should have realized then that all normal guns (except for a couple standouts like an 18x Bangstick or Q-System) would be nighly unsatisfying this game. But it wasn't until Arms race when it sat on my back and forced me to realize this fact. In Arms race, all things being equal, perhaps only normal Torgue is worse than normal Vladof for just dps? Perhaps Jacobs if you have bad aim, but it's up there. Even Tediore found a niche in Arms race: even if the firing sucks, the grenades from reloading works (to the point where Gearbox temporarily lost their damn minds and nerfed the one area they were good at!). Vladof went from being top dog in BL2 and TPS to barely scratches anything in BL3 is so confusing. Honestly, what is the difference between Vladof and CoV weapons? Other than the fact Vladof have snipers, I honestly don't see the difference anymore. Here's what I think happened: Dahl basically took over the Vladof position due to having multiple firing modes. Having automatic firing with their low recoils, Dahl basically became Vladof lite. (Which is why Dahl smg's are so good this gen. Vladof has never made an smg due to the issue of having fast firing, big mag size guns would be too OP.) Increase the mag size through bonuses, and there is literally no difference style wise between the Dahl:BL3 and Vladof:BL2. And all these underbarrel being half-assed meant they're barely used, outside of legendaries. Honestly, the best thing Vladof does anymore is their grenade mods. I have it up there with Atlas as the best overall grenades. (Not that it matters much. Grenades are much weaker this gen as well...) Perhaps the worst part of it is THEY PURPOSELY USED GREAT OLD GUNS NAMES OF THE PAST TO NAME THIS GENERATION, AS IF TO MOCK US!!! Getting a Droog or Moloko in BL2 or TPS was a sign of a good gun. They just murdered all the good will Vladof had for normal guns... Here's how I rank these manufacturers: Legendaries: Pistols: Torgue SMG: Maliwan AR: Jacobs Shotguns: Hyperion Snipers: Maliwan (or Jacobs. It's honestly so close, couldn't complain if either one was one top. But they're leagues above Vladof, Hyperion and Dahl snipers). Heavy: Vladof Regular: Pistols: Dahl SMG: Dahl AR: Dahl Shotguns: Maliwan Snipers: Jacobs Heavy: Torgue

The best series continues! I do wish Vladof was better overall. And that they gave the launchers better crit damage. I was super excited when I realized you could get headshots with them, but the damage increase isn't really that noticeable

Vladofs in this game felt like they were balanced around the idea that Moze, specifically her green tree, is the only build in the game. It's super weird and even then my Vlad loyalty Moze felt super underwhelming until I gave up on the "haha bullet storm" meme and just got a Miscreant instead

The alt-fire should've shoot at the same time as the main barrel/every several shots, at the cost of higher ammo consumption, kinda like duct tape mod or the double barrel variant IMO. the alt fire is cool but severely underwhelming.

Here's the video I made on the exact build: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXLThGimlNubaNE Just be warned, it's old lol. Info is still up to date, video quality is just a lil more lacking. But honestly, it's not really the build doing the heavy lifting here. Borderlands 3 has a very good balance between how much your power comes from your skills vs your weapons. Guns are just generally a lot stronger in this game than they have been previously and therefore a hell of a lot of them work at endgame. If something is completely non-functional on an at least somewhat meta endgame build, then that gun is just *exceptionally* bad, like the Creeping Death. There's a surprisingly little amount of guns in BL3 that just don't work, and most of them are uniques/legendaries.
