Great video Nick, always love your take on bags! The Empire Carryall 40 is like a lot of other bags that are heavily influenced and purchased. I did purchase the Empire 40 and I must admit it is a stunner. Style, workmanship and leather quality are timeless. I think in our current big bag love it can be a daily bag and will always be a great travel tote.

I got the Coach Empire Soft Carryall 40 in the Dark Navy color and it's amazing. The bag looks black when indoors or in dark lighting, but when the sun hits it theres a beautiful indigo glow. I have got some water splotches on the outside already because I wanted to wear this naturally and patina it over time, but I'm looknng forward to how it will look in the future. After using it for a few weeks, I am planning on using the Empire as a work bag and I quite like bringing it on shopping trips and long days out since it holds so much and has a handy crossbody strap. I kinda feel the same way as you in the sense that its allllll over social media, but I have never seen another one in person so I don't really think about it being popular when im using it. I wish they would have released the size down in a soft version because I hate structured bags, especially when they have a center divider in them.

I am really pleased that you are enjoying it and loving it ! Unfortunately marketing can make or break a bag for me and it’s put me off this one, the reversible Neverfull is the same ! Was loving the authentic unboxings etc. then I started to see influencers with AD in their content for it and it turned me off !

The Empire 40 is a gorgeous bag in person. The burnished leather is beautiful. I don't use a large work tote and it's entirely too large for a handbag. The smaller version doesn't capture the look. I think if you saw it in person, you'd appreciate it.

Hi Nick! Thank you for yet another great video! I was thinking about this Coach Soft Empire bag but regardless of what you think about it, I had to realize it's way too big for my frame. I am 5"2 and I think some of these bags are going to look way too big on me. Seems like you know your stuff though, so it would be greatly appreciated if you could maybe make a video about bag sizes and heights. What would you recommend for us on the shorter side of the height spectrum? Would be really interesting to hear your opinion. Keep up this great channel! We appreciate you 🩷

I’ve never seen your Celine tote before, beautiful colour! Totally agree with your views on the Coach bag but I do think it would suit you, especially the navy-black ombré one I think WinnieBeeLV has. Give it 12 months (if that) and you’ll be able to pick it up for hopefully what is a great price (probably from Winnie 😂). It’s usually good to step back and watch from the sidelines for a while.

I don’t show the Celine very often but it deserves better !! The leather is luxurious and it’s gorgeously slouchy !! Yes always good to step back, observe and then hopefully make a sensible decision 😃😃

Hmm. I really think you should see the bag in person before passing judgment. The leather is gorgeous and it is somehow both soft and structured. These things are hard to get across in pictures. Also, it comes in a stunning navy blue with subtle burnishing, so in the sunlight it flashes blue/black and is almost iridescent. I have a feeling this bag has better staying power than you suspect, but time will tell!

I would check out Totes Genes recent video re. The carryall, it’s quite enlightening ! For overnight bags I think Longchamp do fabulous travel bags or the mulberry Piccadilly is so so chic !!

I am bored with the price, rather than the bag itself! I am waiting for the bags to be sent en masse onto eBay and other resellers where i may buy it if it does get sold there at a vastly reduced price. Definitely not for the money Coach wants for it. And unless I get bored with it before then, which is a real possibility. Thank you for the video! (You can get bag organisers with zip closures. I don't have one yet but it is on the agenda to get a couple of them.)

We don't have Coach stores, let alone any luxury designer stores in my city, so I can't see it in person and I honestly don't think I would want to. I love the Empire and the big NYC charms. I think the bag is gorgeous and will last considering my other Coach bags. But I wouldn't pay $700 for it. In 6 months to a year, it will be played out and available for half the price on the resale market. I want one that is used and has softened a bit. So I'll buy it then.

I agree with you, the Empire is completely overhyped. I was almost sucked in until I saw it in person. I have Coach from many years ago when the leather was excellent, now the leather is on par with a bag you could buy for $50. I also have several Aspinal of London totes, and you are 100% correct… those far eclipse the Empire.

Oh yes, you hit the nail on the head once again Nick! The moment I saw the Empire, I immediately thought of The Row Margaux. The Empire looks a bit like a clumsy "inspired by" imitation IMO. Also they look heavy, and on Reddit someone weighed both sizes; 40 is 3lbs and the 48 is 4.2lbs. So around 1,5 and 2 kilos empty, not very arm friendly or handy for travel either. Hard pass for me.

I think all the design houses take inspiration from each other. Isn't the Bayswater rather like a Birkin? The spirit of this video is different.

Absolutely they take inspiration from one another, and I think that Coach took a cue and created something that has become very popular ! The Bayswater definitely sits in a category that the Birkin is within similar to the YSL Sac De Jour, Prada Galleria etc. but the Bayswater feels very much like a bag in its own right (to me at least !).

They way they're pumping out these bags, I'm avoiding Coach in general at the moment because I really do feel like their quality has fallen off a cliff. I was watching an Empire unboxing video a couple weeks ago and the zipper broke right out of the box. Literally two minutes after the person opened it up. And then today I was watching a video about the new metallic tabby bags and the one on the shelf was already ripped, but still priced at almost $700. I don't know that they'll last long enough to outlive their popularity.

The Empire 40 is way too large for me. I would have to go with the smaller version….but it really just seems a little boring. The color range for the Empire is not exciting at all. It is definitely over exposed.
