I am from an island in the Caribbean Sea named Aruba and we desalinate the seawater and make drinking water out of it. And it's the best drinking water I have ever had. I have travelled a lot and I don't understand why people don't think of using seawater, which is the best water in the world, to make drinking water out of it. A lot of places have water with a lot of chlorine in it to kill germ and bacteria, but sea water cleanses itself by being salty. 👍👍

I visited Aruba a couple of years ago, i really liked it there, lovely people and beautifull places. (actually went there with someone that has been living there for a while so went outside of tourist areas and got to meet a lot of locals) The reason not many places use desalinated water is because it is very expensive (sometimes up to 5 times more expensive than other methods like cleaning fresh water) and it uses a lot of energy. there might be ways to make it cheaper and less energy consuming, but those still have to be further developed and that only happens if the need to desalinate is high. since Aruba does not have a lot of fresh water sources it makes sense to desalinate, that is why you guys have a desalination plant and some of the best quality water in the world. The Netherlands mainland makes water from fresh water sources though and also scores a perfect score on many water quality tests together with other countries from northern and western europe.

Yes, the Dutch are helping the Philippines with their water projects These projects are: coastal protection; the Manila Bay Sustainable Development Master Plan; and safe drinking water. So the coastal protection should help reduce damage from typhoons and flooding The Manila bay plan is to improve the rapidly deteriorating water quality in the bay. And the safe drinking water seeks to expand availability and quality of water for about 1.1 million Filipinos in the most water stressed communities. There are probably smaller projects as well, but these seem to be the major ones. Here is a video about the Manila Bay Sustainable Development Master Plan: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWbTamOCiptmh8k

That can be solved. We turned an inland sea into the biggest freshwater lake in Europe. Just costs a lot of money to do, and maintain it. Heard that a lot from Phillipina girls, that you are often almost drowning in rainwater. For hundreds of years every Dutch house had rain-barrels, ponds and ditches to keep the fresh water. Got to boil it after a while, but at least you can coock, make tea and coffee and not die from thirsi, water crops etc..Hopefully your government will realise soon that investing in saving the gift from a typhoon (rainwater) , will (in the long run) be a good investment for your country, for it will be. Said a Dutch man.

Had seen footage from a Coastal Bypass project in Davao last year, basically bypasses the city to cut travel time, it was still under construction but my first instinct as a Dutchman was wondering if they'll take the opportunity to raise a reliable dike and other flood defenses with it to protect their city from storms and rising sea levels.

The Dutch export their knowledge of water management, which they have collected over hundreds of year. And without which there would be far less Netherlands. Let other countries learn from it.

We aren't smarter here in the Netherlands, it's just experience handed over through generations of people fighting flood waters. This since the 15th cent. and our sometimes very old companies. Almost all Dutch people know for example that you need to life with water instead of going against it. We mean give the water room to flood area's but controlled. High water move your cattle away from the river delta's now it can flood. That isn't enough? Break the river barriers on a spot where it floods low value land instead of high value cities. Build infrastructure that removes water from the controlled flood area's and lead it to large basins. That water can then be used lateron to give flood water to dry parts during periods of few rains.
