The 2-series was designed to fit a V8, it just didn’t get one due to the oil crisis about a year before it came to market. As a result the engine lab at Torslanda and the engine factory started to look at turbo charging. I believe weight also was a reason a V8 never ended up in the 2-series. I have driven 245:s with both CSB and Ford 305 engines and let’s say it is no longer well balanced. No longer 52/48 % weight distribution. A LS is another story since it is in in aluminum form considerably lighter than a CSB.

Paul Newman had a 400hp V8 swapped volvo 960 back in the late '90.. and a 740 with a 3.8 v6 turbo grand national engine..

You do realize that they definitely weren't the first... I can go to a barn in Henderson NC and find one built with a 400 sbc with a junkyard diesel turbo ala roadkill's Rotsun... in 2001. But continue believing that the first one you've seen is the original idea...

I think the first smallblock Chevy v8 swapped Volvo 240 was built in 1982 in Sweden :D I built my 240 LS turbo 6 years ago, and there was many before my build.
