Went to a Prince concert with some older friends and family and it turned out being the best concert I’ve ever been to. And yes, the concert kept going on and on because the audience kept clapping and he would come out and do another 5-10 songs. This went on about 3 or 4 times.

Apparently, just before this performance, Rolling Stone mag had omitted Prince from their list of all time guitar greats - this was him saying they had made a mistake! Great tribute to George Harrison from his fellow musicians, and his son Dhani!

@@tracynorman1455 WRONG! He first appeared on it in 1997. And the list is pretty irrelevant since Rolling Stone itself hasn't been relevant since 1982. Prince didn't give a flying leap about their list and performed like this every night. This performance surprised no one who paid attention to music. He was already the GOAT.

He's a hater now because he realizes that everyone associates this song with Prince now because of this performance, which made the other performers look old and robotic (which they were) by comparison. Petty in particular barely moved two inches until Prince took the song to the next level (or two).

@@Great-Documentaries From what I gather, it's not in his nature, same as his dad. A new audience will now be asking about Harrison and the Beatles, I guess. I think the band's understated performance shone extra light on the solo. Can you turn it up to 12?

This. It was Prince's night, not George Harrison. Traditionally the R&R HoF ceremony ends with a jam session featuring the artists that were being inducted. That's why this song was chosen. And Prince had already performed a 20 minute set earlier in the broadcast before stealing the stage and making this song his own.

There were so many incorrect things said about Prince in this video but i'll try to enjoy it lol We are the world session wasn't becuz Prince wanted to have a solo. That was all lies told by Lionel Richie on the Kimmel show & Lionel is known for exaggerating stories. All you have to do is look up Prince MTV interview 1985 the full version. Prince literally says the reason why he didn't attend the we are the world session is becuz of his anxiety. He would've clammed up with all those talented people in the room. Prince was the kind of artists that liked to record with artists that he knew or people he loved & it's funny becuz in 2024 if Taylor Swift couldn't make a we are the world session, no one would go crazy over it. Prince donated money & recorded a song called "tears in your eyes" for the we are the world project becuz he was so shy recording in front of a bunch of artists he didn't know. There are a lot of genius artists who work that way too, Prince isn't the only one & i mean let's be honest. We are the world is an amazing message & a beautiful project to create for Africa & just the world in general but it's a awful song lol. Even Cyndi Lauper who sung on we are the world hated that song lol. A lot of artist who were there also privately hated that song. I don't blame Prince at all lol. Prince also gave to thousands of charities privately. Just look up Prince humantarian work videos. Prince Also played to the extreme on this becuz he had a personal grudge with Rolling Stones Magazine who owns this venue. Rolling Stones Magazine even made fun of Prince when he was fighting for his music rights. There's so just way too much context missing in this video lol.

Prince was asked by the production to do the solo. Prince had done a set earlier for his induction into the hall of fame. The night before The band rehearsed with Prince who barely played the guitar (in fact the background guitarist played most of the solo). They did the song one more time and the same thing happened. The first time the band or production team see Prince’s solo is the one time live during the ceremony. I believe Prince did this on purpose-the production team might have told him to tone it down. This way Prince could do it the way he imagined it to be. You can see Tom Petty smile at Prince(they were friends).

Siskel and Ebert loved Purple Rain. Prince did 3 movies and they roasted the other two. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame that night too, that’s why he was asked to join he others for this song. He had played his own set earlier in the evening. As for the We are the World thing - Prince did write another song that appeared on the album, 4 the Tears in Your Eyes, His song Hello addresses the whole We are the World controversy. It was released as a B-side to the single Pop Life. Prince was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. His father was a jazz musician. Prince said his dad was hard on him so that’s partially why he was like he was. His parents divorced when he was young. When his mom remarried he moved in with his dad for awhile before being kicked out of his place. He spent his high school years living with a friend and future bandmate’s family in their basement.

Winwood on keyboards is with Traffic, a phenominal rock band that started in the 60s, broke up, and got back together in the 90s. I saw them at several shows one summer as Traffic fronted for The Grateful Dead. Tom Petty and Prince are legends we lost way too early. Both had hit songs up the wazoo, they were so dang good. Both gone from the same type of 'helper.' Jeff Lynne is a fantastic guitarist.

I believe you guys misstated Prince’s lack of participation in we are the world. He did not want to sing. He always recorded his vocals alone. He would even kick his engineer out. George Harrison’s second (this time for his solo career, the first was as part of the Beatles) induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, on stage for this, the final, song were: * Tom Petty - 3 Grammys and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; (playing twelve string acoustic)and from his band the Heartbreakers’ Scott Thurston (playing bass) and drummer Steve Ferrone. * Jeff Lynne - 1 Grammy and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (playing electric guitar with hat, beard and curly hair) and from his band ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) and Marc Mann (plays first solo) guitarist for ELO. * Stevie Winwood - 2 Grammys and member of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (playing organ) was part of The Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic and solo career and Jim Capaldi (from Traffic with Winwood) on percussion (tambourine). * Billy Preston - 2 Grammys and in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; (on piano) played keyboards for the Beatles and had a solo career. * Dhani Harrison (George’s son) - 1 Grammy; (playing six string acoustic), young man standing next to Tom Petty. * Prince - 7 Grammys (playing electric guitar) who was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that year. Note that the Grammy mentions are wins, it doesn’t count the numerous nominations they received. Also Petty and Lynne were part of the Traveling Wilbury’s along with George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. Harrison, Petty, Lynne, Winwood and Preston are also song writers and producers. Prince wrote Manic Monday for the Bangles.

He said that before they recorded that song. He was asked before that day. He was VERY shy and didn’t do well with crowds. He didn’t want to sing with everyone or sing alone around everyone. I remember back in the day, not just because of that stupid documentary. He couldn’t handle that big of a group. When he performed by himself or with one of the bands he was apart of it was different. He only played guitar on this…because of his snub by Rolling Stone’s top 100 guitarists of all time. So he came out and slayed.

Btw, Eric Clapton was once asked how it felt to be the best guitarist of all time and his response was, “I don’t know, ask Prince”. One more thing, that thing when he changed his name to a symbol, he was trying to get ownership of his music and was making a point. The same reason he wrote slave on his face during a performance. Current musicians thank him for paving the way to ownership of their music.

Prince won an Oscar at the Academy Awards for Best Original Song Score. He is the only artist to have a number one movie, single, and album at exactly the same time. The movie *Purple Rain*, which was written by and starred Prince, debuted at No. 1 in its opening week. The album *Purple Rain*, serving as the soundtrack for the film, held the No. 1 spot for 24 consecutive weeks. Prince was extremely private and didn't allow anyone to see him record his vocals. When he worked with an engineer, he used a separate private room so she couldn't see him. He told Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie that he didn't want to sing in front of others. Sheila E. noted that he would not be comfortable in a small room with so many unfamiliar faces. He offered to either do a guitar solo or record his vocals in another room, but they told him he couldn't do that. As a result, he declined and donated a song to the *We Are the World* album instead. Prince did numerous charity concerts and made anonymous donations, often without allowing them to be filmed. Many people and organizations received money from him without knowing it until after he passed away. When he was characterized as not being charitable due to his ego, he released a song called "Hello" a week after the recording session to explain his position. His substantial charitable work was largely unknown until after his death. Additionally, the rivalry between Prince and Michael Jackson was more about friendly competition than animosity. There was a rivalry between their fan bases much more so than between themselves. They had a healthy rivalry but were ultimately friends who occasionally had their differences, just like most friendships.

Feeling like you've been disrespected by someone is the driving force that fuels Alpha personalities. It can make them seem like a bit of an ass for some. There is a big difference in people that have the skills and people that have the skills and the mindset to be the best they can be. The other thing is that you see them one time and try to interact with that person. Think about how many times everyday that happens to them. It must wear on them.

Prince donated a lot to charities - look it up. He did most of it anonymously because he didn’t want the attention. He earned his money by working hard. He was always working on his music. Prince wore out his bandmates and engineers. He would do a several hour sound check. Perform a concert then after would either do an after show at a club or go into a studio to record. He taught himself how to play all of those instruments. Prince not only played them all but did so at a high level. If he isn’t your cup of tea that’s fine. You can’t deny his talent though. My husband isn’t a Prince fan, but totally gets his talent. My husband said the two Prince concerts we went to were the best concerts he had ever been to.
