I do not watch the BBC because it pretends to be impartial and hold government to account. It does not such thing as instead it is a government mouthpiece. State broadcaster, after all. GMB is not perfect by any means and sometimes it plays into right wing talking points. It is also clear sometimes where the presenter is coming from politically when their own views should be hidden. But ultimately ITV's objective is to make money through adverts, which is more honest than the BBC pretending it is actually doing what it should be. By far some of the tougher interviews with government or anyone else for that matter are on GMB.

I can't help but this remind me of what happened in Ireland with the famine. The British government would not stop British companies taking food out of Ireland, and wouldn't supply Ireland with extra food, because they believed in a "free market economy" and didn't want the government to interfere with companies doing what they wanted. As a result, millions of Irish died, the only country in the world today, to have a smaller population than it did 150 years ago. Today, Boris Johnson refuses to tax these energy corporations, because he believes in this "free market economy", and British people are going to suffer, not as badly as the Irish, but it's the same ideology that caused millions to die in Ireland and India, and result is going to be the suffering of a lot of people.

@@howler6490 I get it, you're trying to misdirect to separate issues because you want to defend what the British Empire did in the past, while also seeming to be critical of it. I said the population of Ireland, not the population of Boston. Diaspora of the Irish has a lot to do with British rule in the past. "The Irish didn't help themselves" I'm sure you could come up with several ways in which the Irish could have done something negligible, but the fact is, they were under British rule, and forced to export, during a famine, the food which could have saved their lives. That was the main cause, could there have been smaller issues? Sure, but it's like saying "This guy seems to have died from a septic scratch on his finger, when his head had been blown off with a gun".

01:22 Johnson skewered for starting to say the 24 hour freedom bus pass to keep Elsie warm was created by him. 01:45 Johnson skewered for saying the council's have more money to help Elsie ... which already helps her. 02:14 Johnson talk about a council tax rebate he's given - which Elsie is not entitled to. 03:30 Johnson is doing everything he can and "totally gets it." Jeez. Got to hand it to Susanna ... great job. Worth point out here --> £200 billion pounds (at least) spent on getting Brexit done followed by billions lost in the economy by the results off Brexit. £100 billion squandered on Covid with one of the relative highest death rates in the world. Trillions of pounds in debt. Where is all the money leeching to? For those hard of thinking: 1 million - 1 000 000 (You can spend £100 a day for 27 years) 1 billion - 1 000 000 000 (You can spend £100 thousand a day for 27 years) 1 trillion - 1 000 000 000 000 (You can spend £100 million a day for 27 years)

Very useful. Inequality is not a bunch of people. It's a system that constantly funnels money from the rest of the sociery upwards and consequently never stops squeezing the poor until it is made to. Those at the top are not insatiable. It's the system that constantly functions to funnel money upwards irrespective of human need and this government believes in it in spades.

Now this is a perfect example of someone not listening to the question or the issue. Thatcher privatised the energy companies in the 80's to invest in the infrastructure of this country and 40 years later Johnson is saying they still need to do it? WTF have they spent our money on during these years? This is bloody appalling in one of the richest countries on the planet.

The increase to her monthly payment is wrong. The cost has not risen by the amount to justify her increase. She needs to contact her energy company.
