" It was revenge for fixing the parking ticket.... and a lot of other things. And there was nothing we could do about it. Doc was a made man , and Baldwin wasn't. We had to sit still and take it. It was among the Italians - real greaseball shit. They even shot Doc in the eye so his mother couldn't give him an open Shinebox at the funeral. "

The situation was pretty clear though. The most powerful captains in the family didn't like Doc's leadership, but Phil didn't want the spot. When Doc orders Gerry murdered Phil changes his mind and the captains support it. From there all Phil had to do was make the order and it was done with no fallout because the captains like Phil better.

@@joshuajackson7596 I dont think Butchie was the boss at the end. I think Little Carmine was the boss. Watch the peace meeting between Butch and Tony . 2 or 3 times Butchie looked over to little Carmine for approval. Little Carmine ordered the hit on Tony in the end to appease his captains and for the family to save face. Tony had killed the family boss in front of his wife and grandchildren. The jeep ran over his face for fuck sake. Little Carmine killed Tony and united the family as he was the only Lupertasi in the Lupertasi crime family. Butchie was his underboss
