@gluck58692 жыл бұрын
John couldn't handle the pressure of being boss and felt undermined by Tony and other Tony's actions towards Phil. Once he was incarcerated and mostly out from under those responsibilities their friendship was able to mend some. I actually think doing Sack any favors out of friendship at this point was a big mistake from Tony. Johnny had already thrown their bond out the window and being in his good books offered very few advantages at this point, with him being dead within a few months. Rusty on the other hand would've been an asset when everything blew up with New York, maybe Tony could've persuaded him to take over as boss instead of Phil and avoided the conflict entirely.

As if it's such a bad thing to tell on another gangster to preserve one's self. They are all "ratting" on each other one way or another on a constant basis. There was never honor and respect in that life. Ever.

Tony really brought this Phil beef onto himself in hindsight. Clearly never treated the man as if he might ever be in the big seat. Which was very shortsighted considering the state of the family.
@bearcat6484 жыл бұрын
Very true. Also, killing Rusty set the stage for Phil to later take control of the family. From what we see of Rusty, he comes across as rational & level-headed. Unlike Phil & Johnny Sack, who get caught up in emotions and vendettas. In the end, Tony worked against his own interests to help a couple of guys his family was practically at war with prior to this.

And that was how should have been, Phill becoming Boss was a huge surprise and happened by so many lucky breaks. And sure, Phill was total and utter disaster.
@themistoklestheodosopoulos62534 жыл бұрын
@@stevem2323 With John in the can and Rusty out of the picture, or at the very least before he was actually killed he was clearly heading there given the beef with Little Carmine, Phil was the obvious next in line. Doc Santoro was even said to be a weird choice given that Phil was around but "his heart gave out" soi he didn't initially take the crown.
@MRJKING26904 жыл бұрын
Joe Peeps, Bill Leo.... Cousin Tony B and the guilt Tony S felt for years over his panic attack set all this into motion. Without that beef, New York and Jersey might have had a peaceful relationship no matter who was in charge. Or at very least more wiggle room from both sides during negotiations. Tony let family and a personal problem come before "The Family". Bottom line.

Tony made a HUGE mistake doing this, he should have stuck to his guns and refused to do this hit since all this did was solidify Phil's position in the long run which of course would eventually lead to the war between New Jersey and New York. Had Tony never done it he would have had a continued buffer thanks to Rusty and his people not liking Phil.
