Thank you for explaining the top coat process in detail. I'm not a professional, but I've done about 5 pieces and the top coat is always my problem. Like you explained, I overwork it and even though the pieces look good, it took me a lot time to sand and start again. I will follow your instructions from now on. Thanks.

Topcoating is what stresses me out! Thanks so much for this awesome video! I need to buy one of those brushes. I wish they were available in stores though.

Thank you for this video. I do everything to not topcoat. My biggest stressor is the pooling on the edges. When I try and fix it I get bubbles. Thank you for your tip with that part. Looks so much easier. I really want those brushes. Non of my suppliers here sell them. Just the regular zebra brushes.

@@valerienie3060 You are so welcome - yes it is a huge challenge! you can always order direct from Zibra - not all brushes are carried at retail big box store.

Love your videos - you have taught me so much! My question is: in order to get an ultra-smooth finish can you mist water directly onto polycrylic like you can when you apply the paint layers?
@BorninaBarnBoutique Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes I have a reel I did that I show that exactly, you can spray your piece or your brush lightly with a water mister bottle to help with ease of application

I had horrible results with Minwax Polycrylic. I carefully stirred but had lots of tiny bubbles. The Wipe On Oil based product worked great!

great video and info...I have learned a lot from watching many in your series... Just curious if you have tried any of the Crystalac paints or topcoats?? They are water-based as well... I use them in my tumblers and have just gotten in to furniture finishing... I am loving them!

Thank you! I have not - I have not heard of that brand! I’ll have to look into it

I did my dining table with Valspar furniture and cabinet paint. The paint is satin finish. I followed all instructions, sanded some due to shiny surface and waited 4 hrs between coats. Had redos because I kind of did a distressed look. Last coat i thined with a little water because this paint is so hard to gwt down The water really helped. It is still easy to scratch after 3 days and a little tacky. My question is if I do a top coat how long should I wait? This paint was supposed to be easy and no top coat needed but I feel that the finish might not be tough enough for food and water spills? I'm frustrated right now, its been tough! Thank you for your help, I love watching your videos.

Firs of all, thank you! So I did a review years back on that exact paint. So I know the paint your talking about. I never used again after the video, as I wasn’t a fan. I did a piece of furniture with it. I felt like it was soft and not to my liking. I have a feeling it’s just the formula because you say it’s still feels tacky.I feel if you topcoat at this point, it will not help in that state. You don’t want to add topcoat to a finish that feels tacky, it could indeed make a messier situation for you. I would ask valspar or where you purchased the paint after describing its current state and see if you can get any resolution or solutions from them.

Hi , do you topcoat over a transfer ? Thanks !

I don’t do a lot of transfers but yes it helps blend the seams into the piece

How come you don't spray your topcoat?

I mostly do - but not everyone sprays so I wanted to show options for those that don’t
