Funny Ian said he’s played Superstar Saga and half of Partner’s in time, cause Starlow’s been in literally every other Mario and Luigi game after those two. She was introduced as the main navigator in Bowser’s Inside Story, and she appeared in a similar capacity in every following game. She’s very aggressive, and she is an Orb 👍

Starlow is indeed a character first introduced in Inside Story, and her role in that game was basically the companion character. She also is a very straight shooter and doesn’t really mince her words. She’s basically the straight woman who’s left to help out with the bros. wacky antics, but she’s kind, if not a bit sassy. She did have a few moments of poking fun at Luigi, but these were more like playful teasing rather than bullying (and some just felt like she was genuinely trying to help but came off as a bit sarcastic), and there was even a great scene where she even realized she went a bit too far. Can’t say more than that for spoiler reasons, but it’s a great moment. Anyway, it’s lovely to see her again! Can’t say that giving her the UTY Starlo voice is very accurate, at all, but then again when have voices always fit the character perfectly?

Starlow’s basically the Snoutlet of the third through fifth Mario & Luigi titles. She’s feisty, fun, and maybe takes one too many digs at Luigi but we love her all the same.

Unfortunately, this island that you went to IS in fact the main story quest that progresses the story to while that sidequest you picked up becomes unavailable. It'd be up to you if you want to like, reload an old save to go back and do it, but optional sidequests ARE optional, and it's your playthrough, anyways.

There's some pretty cute dialouge in a small cutscene that I'm pretty sure you missed between Snoutlet and Starlow since you didn't talk to her before going to Merrygo Island so I'm gonna drop it here if you don''t mind "It's been a while Mario and Luigi!" The Starlow voice is completely wrong in the best way possible. One would know Starlow for her peppy but also extremely sassy behavior (Goombella but more heavy handed) from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Dream Team, and Paper Jam. She always pokes fun at Luigi, but goes the extra mile in Paper Jam, which has built her a controversial reputation. If Minmin expires, you can at least watch a walkthrough for it and see what happens there. Know you're not alone; others have also missed the side quest, even people who did all the others.

Preferably the original DS version. Its where Starlow debuted in. And an AMAZING game! You don't even need to play the other games to understand whats going on

OK, I haven't actually watched the video yet, I'll start watching this playthrough from the beginning eventually, but I'm guessing from the thumbnail and the title that they don't know who Starlow is. She's basically been a mainstay in the Mario & Luigi series since Bowser's Inside Story, and she's... well, she's somewhat polarizing, though you won't see her more polarizing elements in this game. In fact, she doesn't really do all that much in this game in general, so I wonder why they even brought her back at all, since her main function in previous games was to basically be a proxy for Mario & Luigi to basically translate the Italian-sounding gibberish to the audience, and also to be an "exposition fairy"... basically, she fulfills the role Snoutlet fulfills in this game, hence why she doesn't bother going with Mario & Luigi this time. But yeah, Starlow has her fans, though weirdly enough, her fans seem to be completely oblivious to the hatedom she's had since basically her debut. I don't really want to explain why I never cared for it in case you ever want to play the other Mario & Luigi games, but in general, the one thing people tend to hate about Starlow is that she relentlessly picks on Luigi and puts him down all the time, which made more sense back when Luigi was easy to pick on and no one cared, unlike now where Luigi's a precious boy who must be protected at all costs and Starlow is a she-devil for daring to treat him poorly! ...I'm exaggerating a bit, but the reactions do get that extreme (or at least they did on Twitter and Reddit). Speaking for myself, Luigi being the butt of jokes works better when he does something clumsy and/or awkward and not when someone else is actively abusing or being mean to Luigi, which is part of why I never liked Starlow all that much. Granted, she only occasionally does that in this game, so you might be a little perplexed as to what all the fuss is about with her, so consider this a warning before entering "Starlow discourse".

Ah Starlow, one of the most contentious Mario characters. Originating from Bowser's Inside Story, she's been a consistent companion of Mario and Luigi up until Brothership. She is pretty infamous for gradually getting meaner to Luigi with each installment (though I think some people's hate towards her is pretty overblown). However, the developers seem to have taken notice and have rather drastically decreased Starlow's snarkiness towards our green lad in Brothership. Traces still remain, but honestly it wouldn't be Starlow without a bit of unwarranted sass.

The Broque reef is the tutorial character from Bowsers Inside Story. I'd leave more info about him but it's been way too long since I last played the game to remember any interesting details. Like others said Starlow is the partner character in quite a few M&L games starting with BiS. Her shtick is "teasing" Luigi, but it's a bit more reserved in BiS with it feeling more like jibes with a friend but it got worse as the games went on with one of the last games being absolutely ruthless in how much shit Luigi got. (I think that was Paper Jam but it's been a long time since I played any of them so I might be misremembering details.) I do recommend doing the side quests as they become available as (almost) all of them are pretty good. I also know that if you don't complete quests as you get them you'll reach a point where you have too many to want to spend the time required to clear them. The nice part is the game usually only gives you a few at once so it's nicely paced if you do them immediately. Aw man that's the first missed side quest. I would like to explain what you missed but it's meant to be a hint about what's to come so since you missed it telling you about what happens would be a spoiler. (It also gives some pretty good boots too.) All I can say is it's another interaction between the villains and the Bros. Also a quest only turns red when that is the LAST OPPORTUNITY so if you see red you have to choose between story or permanently missing a quest. I know why you don't save so you can re-record a section if the footage is lost but I *highly* recommend using the save block *constantly*. They give you 5 save slots and tons of save blocks for a reason. (You could use 1 for your footage save, 1 for anytime you come across a save block, 1 before launching to an island, 1 before bosses/tough fights, and 1 as a backup for your footage save.)

Starlow first appeared in Mario and Luigi bowsers inside story and kept appearing ever since Most people regard that game as the best one in the Mario and Luigi series so if you can you could play the 3ds remaster maybe in the future. Also the voice givin to starlow is so off putting not that you need to change it it’s just weird in know the character.

By the end of the game, you will maybe have learned to expect a cutscene when returning to Shipshape Island. You searched out the reefs, but then you forgot to check back in with the person for a reward =( Starlow! It's been so long since I played Bowser's Inside Story, I'd almost forgotten she existed! I never thought about The Thinker from any angle than the one it's normally shown at. Guess they went for anatomical accuracy after all. Mmmm, chocolate coins! Umm, Ian? Weren't you wanting to do that sidequest BEFORE advancing the plot? Hopefully it won't go away after this plot point...
