Great tip. You can do almost the same thing in Krita. -Open your project -Window -> New Window On the new window go to: -Window -> New View Select your open project On the new Window you can make a workplace to show only the canvas, or: -View -> Detach Canvas To change the color space. The best is using softproofing, the shortcut is Ctrl+Y -Image -> Properties... -> Softproofing -> Grayscale/Alpha -> Choose a profile suitable for you.

There is a annoying bug in Krita with this method. -After opening the project on the main window and setting up the secondary one, after you enable Softproofing on the second one the softproofing will be enabled on the primary window. The first window will apply softproofing even being technically disabled. Just turn on and off on the main window to return to normal. In Krita it appear to not be possible to put two canvas on the same window, unfortunately. So it is impossible to do that side-by-side approach.

@@carlosmarques535 to get side-by-side in krita: Settings > Configure Krita > General > Window > Multiple document mode > subwindow

@@carlosmarques535 "In Krita it appear to not be possible to put two canvas on the same window, unfortunately. So it is impossible to do that side-by-side approach." - Not true - go to Configure Krita -> General -> Window and choose "Subwindows" instead of "Tabs". Then go to Window -> New View -> [your image] and you'll see two subwindows with the same image. For subwindows mode I suggest checking out wojtryb's plugin: krita-artists.org/t/plugin-subwindow-organizer/10225 (I haven't actually used it but from the video it looks like it solves most subwindows mode problems I've always had).

I also always keep the new window horizontally flipped, that way I usually spot the mistakes very fast and manage to fix them without later regretting :)

I use the duplicated window to record my painting process without all the zooming, panning and rotating. Makes for a much cleaner timelapse. 👌
@hanhoang78833 жыл бұрын
How do i set it up so it only records that window but not the whole screen
@danielkituraАй бұрын
@@hanhoang7883this depends on the software you use for screen capturing. There should be an option to choose specific monitor or window for capturing instead of fullscreen (but it could be that not 100% of screen recorders have that option, I guess)

If anyone is wondering, you can do a similar thing in paintstorm studio in the newer versions. Open the navigator, turn off the rectangle, and next to that setting you can find grayscale mode. Oh also great to know which colour space to use for the grayscale in photoshop, thanks boro!

Tried it this morning. It can. And even a bit better, with real-time stroke rendering. Haven't tried black and white though.
@WojtekTrybus3 жыл бұрын
@@BoroCG black and white trick works too under the same shortcut: soft proofing (ctrl+y). The default color space is CMYK though and that needs to be changed in settings under color management.

I've done the same thing more or less with Krita although I was creating a new window which is the same as having 2 instances of the program open at once. The benefit of this is being able to open 2 instances of OBS and point each to it's own unique window of your project. So you can record your process with one that has a fixed view and another where you zoom/rotate to your heart's content. You have to be certain each OBS instance is properly directed to the proper window and that they save the recordings with different file names.

I have a Photoshop action tied to a hotkey that creates a new view for the current document and puts it at the side, so I can do it with one keystroke every time I open a document. Just another lil' step to make it more convenient.

I would love to move the preview window of the image on my other monitor, but there is slight color difference with my monitors and I never could calibrate them the same. (they are from different manufacturers) But otherwise I find this very useful : )
@TheOpytimusEX3 жыл бұрын
Yeah i have the same issue. My second monitor is quite colder than my main one, besides it´s having less contrast between values/hues/saturations. So when i tried using this monitor as my main, because it is a bit bigger, i noticed that when i saw the pictures through my cellphone, the colors were off and the contrast was pretty high. Maybe in the future ill buy a widescreen or 2 of the same.

I do use the standard navigator already. But what I'd really appreciate is if I could work on a separate "solo" layer in my main view but see the whole document composited in the preview thing.

In regards to the black & white preview in another window = wouldn't it be easier to have a black & white adjustment layer on top of your layer list that you can just turn on and off?
@Cain133 жыл бұрын
does this work in Clip Studio paint too? D: I know about the window thingie but I couldn't find any options for the grey stuff.
@gimvsen3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you can make a single window greyscale in clip studio. It would make both windows grey

Can someone help me please?? I do the same as it does in the video when I create a new document and drag it down, but when I go back to the original image that would be the painting and move it, the other document also moves in sync, how do I lock the second document to just use it as a reference in black and white and paint on the other document??

Is there a way to make the navigator preview more HD? I noticed screen recording speedpaintings on photoshop is difficult due to constantly zooming in and out. So i was wondering if i could record the navigator but the navigator is not hd like the normal canvas. Any suggestions?

There are already answers here in the comments about it. Go to Window -> New View -> your image. Go to Configure Krita -> General -> Window and choose "subwindows" instead of "Tabs". Go to Image -> Properties -> Softproofing to change the color space of soft-proofing to GREYA. Then press ctrl+Y to turn it on.

But it is still not updating "real time" though, I wish it did because it would especially be more useful to have a speed paint video that is smoother with this window of the whole painting than just having a time lapse of brushes suddenly appearing.
