Crazy how many negative reactions there are. MTB has gotten so weird. Everyone complains more than they ride their bike. The TEMPO Power looks so sick. I've been eying the Tempo (analog version) since pedaling my Capra up climbs isn't the most pleasant experience but hard to justify buying a new analog bike considering all the benefits of Ebikes. But this solves my dilema. Save weight compared to full Emtb, not crazy travel so its playful, and it has a motor. Oh and alloy? After seeing multiple people crack their frames at Snow Summit this year, I only want alloy from here on out. People want massive motors and massive travel, yet use a fraction of the travel and could barely climb without a motor. Maybe this means i will be able to buy the bike since no one wants it, but it literally checks all the boxes for me.

Underpowered motors with small batteries for not-so-light alloy frames?! Is this the right direction, Commencal??
@TheLoamWolf14 сағат бұрын
Underpowered is open for debate - SX does a solid job. They seem to think it's the right direction, and the result is damn fun for what it's worth.
@finroddd14 сағат бұрын
@@TheLoamWolf From all the reviews of SX that I watched - one should really give it a spin to have power from it. Anyway, may be the direction is right - but certainly not right for me.

Yes, you have to input higher rpm to get maximum power, but it's not an inaccessibly high cadence...

Really hoping they bring a full power new Meta power sx out with the new Bosch 800 battery. . Waiting waiting. Old Model isn’t transmission compatible and in need of update.
@BeniKenesei11 сағат бұрын
I think the question most manufacturers are asking themselves now: Is adding 800 gramms worth a lot more power and complete silence? YES!😁Predicting a CX option within 6 months, they just need to bolt on the other motor and make a different bashguard. Or Bosch needs to give the silence treatment to the SX as well. Also I'm 100% sure, that Bosch will release a 200Wh range extender with the new 21700 cells, the weight should be around 1-1.1kg, which would further help these 400Wh bikes.

I think I'm going to wait and see what brands get the DJI motor, like the new Forbidden. Even though Commencal makes great frames I don't think I want to spend this kind of money right now on a legacy motor brand.

Some like the weight distribution of the range extender. Full size battery have the weight along the whole downtube.
@garethhugeharvey7 сағат бұрын
@ for me I would prefer a full size battery with the extender, I guess it depends on rider weight and length of rides you are doing. I’m a large/ heavy rider in the South Island of New Zealand. So I am after as much battery power as I can get.

49lbs is not light weight. Now if the Meta Power came with the full powered Bosch CX and a 600w battery(with a 800w option) at the same weight, I'd be interested.
@TheLoamWolf10 сағат бұрын
They’ve spec’d them properly and haven’t cut corners to get to a lower weight figure. So it’s a more representative weight of how aggressive riders are going to be running them. We’d love to see the same build with more battery and more power and less weight, of course…but may take a while for tech to get there.

Awesome suspension design but given ~49lbs for a size small defeat the purpose and is a deal breaker!
@kilianlindlbauer827711 сағат бұрын
The bikes are atsm category 5 just like proper downhill bikes and there is not a single light weight component on the bike. You have a fox 38 which already adds 300 to 400g over a 36, you have gravity tyres and tanky wheels. Alloy frame takes abuse, crashes and misuse better than carbon frames. The atsm category alone makes it hard to compare to other bikes as they would mechanically fail where the commencal would keep on going
@Nutinbutmtb11 сағат бұрын
@@kilianlindlbauer8277 Agreed ! I was referring to the 135mm version. The short travel version would be sick if it was available as carbon, lighter - more all mountain/light enduro bike.
@kilianlindlbauer827710 сағат бұрын
@Nutinbutmtb the tempo? Yeah, thats a little more chonky than you want. In terms of aluminum competitors you also have the alutech epelmo, a 150mm trail bike under 19kg although thats a little more expensive and has pretty long wait times. Also atsm 5 btw with the only exception being the wheels. The tempo in carbon would be sick but wouldn't be very commencal as they have never done carbon bikes. A small correction. The tempo is 20kg and not 22kg (44lbs instead of 49). Still on the heavier side for an aluminium trail bike but not as bad as you probably understood. The 49lbs refer to the meta, not the tempo

Why are companies still building these with these motors? The weight is such a minor difference. The small battery is where they are saving weight. Everyone will end up with an extender so that savings will also be eliminated.

@@TheLoamWolf I'm currently testing a Crossworx Trip (German alloy e-bike with the SX motor and almost the same stats as the tempo). The motor suits the bike well and it does a good job going uphill with a somewhat good efficiency. I daresay that the SX has too little power for the heavier Meta though with its 170mm travel. A CX would be suited more. To get the max of 600W out of the SX you have to have a cadence of 105! while on the CX it's 70. The SX works best with high cadences. I don't see myself doing that on a Meta. Also a 400Wh battery is too little for such a bike. On a Meta the focus is more on the downhill than on the Tempo I think.

Right on thanks for sharing your insight and perspective. It’s certainly an interesting time and seeing what people opt for with their dollars will likely guide this category of bike.

@@TheLoamWolf A further problem is the battery that cannot be taken out. The range extender of only 250Wh weighs 1.6kgs and another battery of 400Wh comes in at 2.05 kgs. I'd like to be able to put a spare battery in my backpack to have double the reach.
