Day 6 - 10 of my Ouachita Trail thru-hike. After my resupply at Queen Wilhelmena Lodge, I got back on the trail. I would hike the next 5 days alone and faced some low points of my thru-hike. The terrain was difficult at times and the weather was cold and wet. There were some great moments too though. I passed the 100-mile mark, and after 7 days on the trail, this officially became my longest hiking trip! I would get picked up at the Hwy 27 trailhead for my next resupply and some needed rest.

I'm really enjoying your journey. Not into hiking but love being in the woods but my way is riding my ATV nowadays, I enjoy it when I turn the engine off to listen to what nature offers. You're a hugh inspiration to many I'm sure. Thanks for sharing

Looks like a great trail actually, yeah I'm really thinking this would be a great experience to do before I take on the AT.

It would probably be very similar terrain as the AT. Even get the shelters like the AT

I live in that area. That is not an easy walk. Trail maintenance is close to none at all.

Holy Cow 223 miles! That's crazy. Cool though. Never been to Louisiana but I am sure our travels will take us through there at some point. Some amazing views out there in this video.

Hiking is typically type two fun. There may be some type one fun mixed in, but type two is what it's all about. If it were fun and easy, everyone would do it.

Love this new style of videos. I hope you can do more long distance trails like this in the future. You ever thought of getting a tripod and doing those walking by shots? I also wonder if you're planning on doing a video talking about your gear? I'd be interested in learning about what gear you use and what worked out for you on this trail and what didnt.

Thanks, I think I like this style too. I am still pretty amateur with this and I try new things with each video. I used to use a tripod for those "walk by" shots but found I didn't think about it so never used it haha..

I was your 100 like on this video and my second video of yours to watch so I figured I would subscribe and steal Franks thread@@EricHeber The bushcrafters make fun of the walk by shots , I was thinking a mini drone for stills or small clips, That one critter that looked liked a millipede and walking sticks very nice find, more of that stuff and close ups of mushrooms ,bugs ,critters -- the racoon, yeah good stuff

Is there a regular shuttle from the trail head to Story?
@EricHeber
@EricHeber 4 жыл бұрын
No you need to schedule shuttles. There’s a list on the friends of the Ouachita Trail website

Another great video. It provides a very good idea of what the trail is like and enjoyed your commentary. Excellent. Just a couple of questions... where did you find accommodations around Story; was the shuttle somebody you know or is there a shuttle service in this area; and did you resupply in Story? I've been to Story several times and don't recall seeing a motel or B&B. Thanks. Looking forward to the next video in the series.

Haha yeah, the shuttle service I used was out of Story but I stayed in Mt Ida. I plan to do a video about gear, resupplies, and logistics for my thru-hike.

Hey Eric. I have enjoyed your adventures so far. A buddy and I did the first 31 miles and were we surprised at how tough it was. Found out later that that section is supposed to be the toughest of the hike. I noticed you complaining about your foot being sore from all of the flexing, walking over those rocks. Have you considered using hiking boots which have no flex and then carrying some water shoes to get over any river crossings?
@EricHeber
@EricHeber 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Pete! Yeah I only had that problem with my foot for one day. I do have boots but I really enjoy the trail runners. They dry really quickly and are more comfortable overall than my boots. Hope you get a chance to hike more of the trail!

I'm trying to get my oldest two grandchildren into hiking. We live in Louisiana about 75-80 miles north of New Orleans. Can you suggest a good trail that we can do in about two days, that's not to terribly far away? Thank you.
