Helpful video. What I got from it was that the draw splitter allows heat to pass through to the other side. Heat = Energy = Electricity = Money = More expensive to run. I've gone for the 400 on the basis that when using a single draw it will be cheaper to run than the 500.
@CandidClara5 ай бұрын
This is another interesting perspective! Thank you for your comment
@Guatrau3Ай бұрын
It might be, but the 400 could also have the same heat leak as the flexi, just that the other side doesn't let as much heat in because of the two walls and a small air gap between them. It doesn't necessarily mean that the singular drawer doesn't lose just as much heat tho
@FishTillYouDropАй бұрын
@Guatrau3 I now own the 400 and there is no heat leak to speak of.
@Guatrau3Ай бұрын
@@FishTillYouDrop oh OK good to know. I was thinking about getting the 500 for big roasts or casseroles etc. But then again the 400 seems easier to handle, clean, shake etc. And I guess I wouldn't use the big zone all the time so maybe the 400 is indeed the better choice if it also doesn't have heat loss.
@FishTillYouDropАй бұрын
@Guatrau3 I had the same dilemma and decided to go with the 400. I haven't regretted it once, for the reasons you mentioned above. The 400 will take a 3lb chicken and a good size meat joint. You can remove the tray in the draw to give you more depth. The best things for me to cook in the 400, chips, chicken, bacon, sausages, salmon fillet, gammon joint. Tips: The bake setting is most like a normal oven and a good setting to start with and it's the best setting for jacket potatoes. Don't put too many chips in at once they will take a lot longer. We sometimes half cook the chips (10min airfry) 50/50 in both draws then tip them all into one draw for the second half of cooking, while adding the meat or fish to the second draw and they'll be ready about the same time.

I bought the flexdrawer on a whim whilst stood in argos comparing it to the dual zone 9.5l. Bought it based on the idea I might want to do a whole tray bake Sunday lunch style in it if I wanted too. I have already noticed the temp bleed between compartments when cooking sausages in one side and bacon in the other. And the bacon ended up super crispy whereas when cooked on its own it is not. It's definitely a trade off. Nothing that can't be circumnavigate through time alteration. Like anything new, you just got to find the sweet spot in how to use it to get the best results.

@debbiethomas3687Ай бұрын
I am so glad I found your channel. I've been considering one of these, especially with Black Friday coming up, because my trusty halogen oven is beginning to fail (the fan is going, they always seem to) and I have the original Tefal Actifry which is extremely limiting because of the central spindle that holds the rotating paddle. Knowing this one also doesn't have a flat base makes a difference and, while I would certainly find the "prove" function very useful on the Foodi Max, now I know I wouldn't be able to cook a loaf on one side while proving a batch of rolls on the other because the heat bleed would take the temperature much too high, makes it a bit of dealbreaker. It's also really good to know that it's too big for most sinks (same problem with the shelves and things from my oven) and I suspect most people wouldn't think about the shaking or the plating up in advance. I am now going to check out some of your other reviews and see if one of those would suit me better. Thank you so much.

For me something like the Philips dual drawer with a small and a big drawer would be ideal, but that wasn't on the market yet when I bought the af400. I think I asked you this but I'm not sure where… Is there any ninja model with two separate drawers that also has an accessory of one large drawer to use instead so it can be both one drawer and 2 without needing to use a seemingly ineffective divider according to your video? It was very helpful because I was going to get the drawer with the divider until I saw your video.

This is another great review. Someone else has done a review about the stack and it couldn't even cook a sausage let alone the multiple design flaws. Feels like ninja are trying to reinvent the air fryer and doing a bad job. Jut back your products instead of trying to change them. We went with the cosori Dual and im so glad we did I'm obsessed and its saved us so much money its definitely going to remain a summertime oven so the whole kitchen doesn't heat up. And because we have solar and it uses no more than 1750wh we can run it off the solar or batteries unlike a higher powered oven.

Definitely seems like the tradeoffs aren't worth it, and the single drawer being that huge - well, it's basically an oven, as you say, and I already have one of those. Good thing, already waiting for the Ninja 400 to be delivered. Seems like the sweet spot, larger than the 300, still dual drawer with great temp control. Considered the models with one drawer larger, but I don't need the lower energy consumption of a tiny drawer enough to limit flexibility - two large almost 5 liter drawers is perfect. Mostly overkill for what I'll do, but again - better to have the size and not need it most of the time, than to need it and not have it.

After watching the video, I can see that you're putting the separator upside down. I measured its dimensions, and it's slightly longer on the top than on the bottom (21.3 cm vs. 21.1 cm). This might affect the temperature leakage between the two chambers. I'm not sure if that's the case, because the only thing I checked was the dimensions of the divider, but I think that might have an impact on the temperature measurements you made.

How does the height of the inside measurement of the drawer compare with the AF400? Is there as much height to the drawer?
@CandidClara6 ай бұрын
Height without the crisper tray in the flex drawer is 13.5cm and it’s 14cm in the af400. Hope that helps
