This is very much a "filler" episode because Apple requested 2 extra episodes after the season was already written. So the writing team wrote and added them (This one, and Beard's episode later) after and fit them into the season.

It wasn’t just that It’s a Wonderful Life did poorly that made it cheap for American networks to air. It was that the copyright holder forgot to renew copyright after the first term. So, starting in the 1970s it was able to be aired royalty free. They managed to reassert copyright back in the 90s so now it airs a little less, but because of those 20+ years of non-stop airings, that’s what made it popular.

Something I just realized watching this reaction. Jamie’s team building with the tape and his attitude of being more of a team player. It all happens after his session with Dr. Fieldstone. I really wish to know what they would have talked about to get this change in Jamie. I’d like to add some trivia too: Sam is 100% right this was a filler episode, how else can you explain a Christmas episode that aired in August? Season 1 was 10 episodes the writers wrote 10 episodes for season 2; then Apple ordered 12 episodes. Instead of dragging out the plots and arcs they have written, they just added two more filler episodes. Two more lovely pieces of trivia: when Higgins is toasting to the hometowns of the player’s real hometowns. Also the dentist and the usie guy,however you spell that, they are real life mother and son. Love the channel cheers

Carol of the Bells is a filler episode and there is one detail from this episode that seemed inconsequential at the time but will figure prominently later in the season. Personally, I can't wait for the reaction for the next filler episode!

On Jan Mass: actor's name is David Elsendoorn. IIRC, he's actually from the Netherlands. This is actually another 'Easter Egg' to soccer fans. "He's not rude, he's just Dutch.." Ep 4 may not have had much plot, but expanding on tiny details about various characters enriches the entire show when the characters and their arcs and development are so intrical to the overall story. Filler can be hit or miss but this was definitely a hit.

After my friend and I got really good seats our work refused to give us the time off. Just a trivia correction but it wasn't because It's A Wonderful Life did so poorly that it was cheap to air - it's maybe even more interesting. The copyright for the movie was a 28-year term and the copyright owner intended to renew but through a mistake in the paperwork the renewal application lapsed and the movie entered public domain in 1974 - allowing the networks to broadcast it at no cost entirely - no licensing, no royalties - but if the paperwork had been processed correctly the movie would have never entered public domain and we would not have been watching it for the last 30-odd years.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I've recommended before but still needs to be on the list) Shadowhunters ( supernatural, LGBTQ+, great characters with action and drama) Star Wars( off your Shame list I suggest 4,5,6,1,2,3 then if you want the shows and then I guess 7,8,9) Karate Kid 1, 2 and 3( off Sam's Shamelist and so you can watch Cobra Kai, this show shouldn't be good but it so is) I'd recommend more but I don't want to overwelm and I need to know a little more of your shame lists. That figure of 25 million was probably from a few years ago, TV revenue drop is probably 50million per year instantly. Not to mention a dramatic drop in prize money and sponsorship deals. My team suffered this 11 years ago and still suffering from it now

Too add insult to injury, there is a pile-on effect. Not only do you lose TV money, sponsor leave with their money, opportunities to generate extra money from tourneys and pre-season tours, existing players leave to find better teams, bringing in new players becomes harder. This can create a death spiral because their are leagues below the Championship. Probably the worst case is Portsmouth FC. In 2009-2010 they were playing in the Premier League, but got relegated due to poor play and finance issues. By 2016, they were in the Fourth Tier called EFL League Two.
