Thanks for your review I purchased the gt 1000 yesterday, its the best pedal ive ever used. I used the sounds straight out the box really nice machine. Although im not someone who is very good at programming in different tones, hopefully ill get there in the end. Honestly ive always been big on organic sounds straight from the amp with a direct signal, But this GT 1000 is quite a nice piece of kit. You could have lots of fun with that Equally im sure you could do the same on some of these other units. But the one I got is the Boss and I was pleasantly surprised, Enjoy

I agree with you. The signal chain options are great with the Boss. I am looking to simplify my gear (need another JMP-1? Kidding, I would not part with mine) and for my everyday situation including recording the Boss seems to be a much better and space saving solution. Ideally I want to just have one unit I can record directly with, be it to my Tascam DP-32 or to my Laptop. I also like the amp sounds of the Boss more than the HX Stomp. Thanks for comparing the two units, I was looking for a comparison like that. Your playing is great. You have gained another subscriber.

ive got both core and helix rack . the helix is more immediate ,presets sound ready to go. but the sounds can be a bit flat and 1 dimensional , pushed in the mids and lacking depth . but loud and punch through the mix well . this mid focus is why modern metal kinds love it I think . also its strange the way it allocates and runs out of dsp , your building patches and suddenly your stuck with 3 reverb choices because something else stole the dsp . the boss if richer , deeper , more detailed and more low/low mid information . more efx blocks and importantly everything that's there is there and everything can be turned on at once . seamless patch changing as well . but its presets suck and the learning curve is steeper . you have to tweak it and work and make your own sounds . either is great , all the modellers are great these days but i feel like the core rewards a bit more if you put the time and effort in while stomp hits the wall of its capabilities quicker , especially the stomp which is half a normal helix

I play bass. The task arose to make sure that the processed bass guitar signal (EQ, compressor, amplifier, cabsim) goes to one channel, and effects based on the same signal go to the other channel (EQ, compressor, harmonization with a separate pedal, synthesizer with a separate pedal, amplifier, reverb, delay, cabsim). That is, in addition to the bass part, you can fill the space between the bass and the lead guitar with some additional sounds. And only the boss is good for this, because the stomp simply doesn't have enough blocks to do it all at the same time.

The GT-1000 blows the stomp away IMO. You can run all 24 effects blocks at the same time and switch to a completely different preset with no latency. No need for snapshots and you can have way more complicated signal paths and effects running. Dual amps. Parallel signal chains within parallel signal chains… it’s ridiculous what you can do. Totally blows the stomp away
@LeoGibsonGtr2 жыл бұрын
Hi Johnny, thank you for sharing! Yes, the signal chain is much more powerful in the GT1k....
@jamesatkin94122 жыл бұрын
I've got the HX Stomp, and it sounds brilliant. I'm sure you could dial in identical sounds on either one if you fiddled enough, but the 24 blocks vs 8 is a massive advantage. Also the footswitch arrangements: hitting 2 buttons together to get the tuner on the boss, vs one dedicated tuner button on the stomp is another win for the boss, I think. When you only have 3 foot switches, flexibility is vital. I'm hoping Line 6 might bring out something the same size with a bigger screen and a lot more processing power. The DSP in the Stomp is getting quite dated now.

I own the GT-1000 and it does sound digital and fizzy on some amp models. You can hear it on this demo. It's still dragging along a little of that cocked wah sound from the GT-10 and GT-100. I think it can be tamed with a little knowledge of how to set up the output, eq and ir's. In this video the Line 6 Stomp sounded a little more natural but I think it has to do with voicing because it didn't sound like a true plexi either, just a good less shrill distortiion. It was still digital sounding too but not as much in the higher register like the Boss. I have heard that the feel of the Boss is more like playing a tube amp, but I really want to try a Helix LT and compare. Just like it's predecessors, the GT-1000 effects are great! The distortions, and overdrives sound more true and natural than the amp models. Hopefully Boss will update the amp models as technology gets better. The Core and Stomp are kinds pricey for such a small pedal with so few foot switches. Go for the full size GT-1000 or the Helix LT, especially if a multi-effects unit is going to be your main rig. I have owned the GT-8, GT-10, GT-100 and the GT-1000 and have had fun with them all. The GT--1000 is like the GT-100 but with the blanket taken off the speaker as it does sound more hi-fi. I think either unit in this video will work and sound fine though, especially if just being used for effects using the 4-cable method into a nice tube amp.

JamminJman, I currently have the Boss GT-10 and always felt a little disappointed in the clarity of the sound because of the cocked wah effect. I also noticed that it was present even when everything in the signal chain was turned off. The difference became apparent when I plugged my guitar directly into an audio interface vs. through the GT-10 and then into the interface. That being said, did you think the GT-1000 was a huge upgrade from the GT-10?
@jamminjay3 жыл бұрын
@@albertlee5439 It's way better than the GT-10. They aren't even in the same league. I have been learning more about this thing and with some patience it can be programmed to get some amazing tone. I have it running through a PA Amp and 2 old Genz Benz 1x12 guitar cabinets, so the tone is getting colored by that. I want to get a FRFR speaker and see how clear it will sound in comparison.

Great video, thanks Leo! Folks considering the GT-1000 core should be aware that the 24 blocks isn’t 24 of whatever you want (Boss marketing materials don’t make that clear, though it is clear in the manual). For example, four blocks are dedicated to delay, but are only of one type of delay (they can’t be switched to the many cool types of delays in the unit). This may be fine for many players, but if you are a person who wants a lot of freedom to experiment (as I’m doing with ambient sounds) you may want to read the GT-1000 core manual to understand how the 24 works before buying it. I found it a bit inflexible for my intended use. In a similar price range, I am looking into the Line 6 HX effects (different than the HX stomp Leo covered in this video-it has up to 9 blocks depending on DSP load of what effects are in use, but no amp models) as an alternative.

I just couldn't get on with the different modes (stomp, preset, bank etc) and how difficult it is to switch between them without additional pedals. @@LeoGibsonGtr very true the supply itself was made well before the stomp came out and in fact supplies up to 3A. I’d meant to say good comparison by the way but was typing on the move. I have no dog in this fight, I am just impressed with what $600 can get you nowadays. I started in the late 80s, and $600 would get you maybe a decent guitar, or a low end tube amp. I think i paid around the same price for a pro-mag pickup for my acoustic, and a tascam, cassette 4 track. I have a kemper, along with my studio gear, and a few important pieces of gear i will never part with, so other than the usual impulse buys all of us music geeks cant seem to outgrow(for some reason i bought the Positive Grid Spark, it is complete junk), i am happy. But what an opportunity todays guitar players have to buy studio level gear, for such a small price. Enjoy it while it lasts.

One important thing Leo : what do you think about the ease of use of the GT core without the apps ? Is it easy to modify during a rehearsal without apps or computer ? I clearly prefer the sound of the Boss but the easy of use of the Boss seems not-so-good compared to the Helix

Hi, well, in terms of easiness the BOSS is not the best option...I think. The app, that you can use live, helps a lot... Thank you for your question!

As always a great video. Actually I think both sound great. The HX Stomp was nice with only the Plexi, but when the GT 1000 Core had an additional TS 808 it sounded also great in the Demo Song and better than the Line6 in my Opinion.

Thank you, really appreciated! Your feedbacks are super important for me! Having only 3 foot-switches I don't think there are banks. You can go up and down by one preset with the left and center switch....as far as I know. If someone has better info, please drop us a message here! Thank you!

Thanks Leo, very kind !! I don't understand Boss's choice but the unit looks very powerful and versatile. Now i'm owner of Mooer Ge 300, but his fx section don't like me very much: in your opinion boss and hx stomp are more better? Thank you again!! Bye

I forgot BOSS existed. I used their RV-5/6 before I could afford a BigSky, and their DD-3/5/7 before I got my TimeFactor. Also used to use their TU-2 before I got my polytune/polytune mini and their DS-1 was my first pedal ever.

@@LeoGibsonGtr no problem! I should add that with the 3.01 software update, the HX Stomp now has 8 blocks instead of 6. Also, I’ve powered it off both a Strymon Zuma and a Strymon Ojai R30. All I did was buy a $5 adapter cable on Amazon and it connects with 0 issue. Just information for you :-)

Great review. It's funny how different people's priorities can be. I couldn't care less about balanced or unbalanced outputs. But 3000 mA on that HX Stomp? Oh hell no. What is it running, an Intel i9?
@LeoGibsonGtr4 жыл бұрын
😊 you are right ... it's a pretty high value. In some comments of this video you can find guitarists who have run the HX Stomp at 800mA, even if in the back of the HX stomp it is written clearly that it requires 3A. Thank you!

You really let loose on that track! Awesome tune and licks. I think both units (while different) actually sound great. They both are so darn small. I agree with your '2 cents' opinions. Still leaning toward the Boss myself. I have been struggling with a decision between the Boss Core or the Pod Go. I really like those extra foot switches on the Pod go (and the pedal.) With the Core I like the ability to create a parallel "dual" amp path, and all those great effects. Still undecided ... and still going crazy !!

My opinion is biased because I have the GT 1000 core on order. Anyone who likes the Line 6 better will probably have a good argument; it is an excellent device. Either one is great, but the Boss "Plexi" sound was more appealing to me. I also have several pedals that I would use with it, so I like the smaller power demand. I always enjoy your videos for the comparisons, the guitar playing, and the song compositions. Thanks again for your great work!

If they could just fix their interface to be easier to use they would be gold. I now want to have both side by side on my pedalboard. Great vid by the way. As an OD-200 owner I can relate and would expect nothing less from Boss lol, you gotta earn the tones through nonsensical acronyms and burried adjustments.

I was an early adopter of Line 6 digital processing (bought an AxSys brand new, then did the chip upgrade to make it an AX2 later). I always thought Line 6 gear sounded more accurate to vintage tones than the Boss “COSM” stuff, which sounded thin and fake in comparison. I did love the bulletproof reliability of Boss gear though, the effects were clean and great sounding, and the FX chain routing was 100x more flexible. But this new Boss AIRD tech sounds great. I was expecting the Line 6 amp/cab sims to blow the Boss versions away yet again. Nope. The GT1000’s tones sounded much better in the mix, which caught me by surprise. I currently use a GT10 in my pedal board, but the cab sims absolutely suck. If I were to get a GT1000C, I could route the output into the GT10 and use the old unit strictly for additional post FX and as a midi controller for the Core. Final verdict: Boss cab sims no longer suck. Their only enduring Achilles Heel is finally gone. Choosing between the two, the Core edges out the Stomp, IMO.

If you are a bass player, you will probably like the Boss better. Sound killer with bass, and I found the Line6 a little muddy handling low frecuencies with a small chain of effects. Try both in the store, and go with your ear. Both are excellent units, and things like "prettier display" are not that important during the gig. The lack of a dedicated balanced output is not an issue because many of us have quality D.I. on our rigs already. I'm currently using the Boss GT-1B (sounds fantastic on a budget) and looking forward to upgrade for a GT-1000 Core.

Hello Leo, many thanks for your great video, very interesting and informative! I have a couple of questione regarding the missing balanced outs on the Boss (which is a real shame, I agree with you...): - what is your opinion by sending the Boss L/R outs signal to a good stereo passive DI box ? Of course I understand that it would be an extra cost to consider, and an extra cable connections/space on the pedalbord, but in my opinion the Boss could be really unbeatable this way... - also, what do think about using a stomp preamp. (which often has included a DI out) to be connected after the Boss L/R outs ? (I mean in substitution of a “pure” DI box). Many thanks for your answer!
@LeoGibsonGtr4 жыл бұрын
Hi Roberto, thank you! Well, I don't have too much experience with DI boxes. Nevertheless, I will try to answer. > sending LR to a DI box: I think it would work, nevertheless for sure you need very short cable to connect the DI Box and you need a very good DI box that does not color the sound > Stomp preamp: I'm not convinced by the stomp preamp, as it would color the sound, and you are gonna loose the stereo out, unless you use two of them or a stereo one... In my opinion another solution would be to put 2 cab simulators after the GT 1000 (like a cab M) so that other than adding the XLR out, you are also adding mics, cabs, etc. I mean you adding value to this solution and you are not using it only as a DI...of course you are gonna spend more money... Thank you!

HX actually need only 1000mA! There are video tests about this out there. And I?m able to power it using 2 output my Strymon Ojai power supply (of course to do this you need some adapter cables, to sum together the power of 2 9V outs and to fit the HX plug type). Also note that after your video Line6 released the new firmware 3.00, with which now you can have a maximum of 8 block per preset in the HX!
@LeoGibsonGtr4 жыл бұрын
Hi, actually some of you noticed that the ampere vary from 800 to 1.4. Nevertheless in the back of the HX is clearly written 3A...an explanation by Line 6 would be useful. As regards the number of blocs, you are right, firmware 3 allows 8 blocks, nevertheless I don't think it's a game changer for this comparison, considering the number of blocks that the GT 1000 core provides with. Thank you for your message!

Hi! The Line 6 is operating in 24bit /48 kHz, but not in 192 kHz, where from did you get this value? The dynamic and sound density of the BOSS is way better in my opinion. I checked them both - but i´m only a bass player ;-)

This comparison was super helpful. I’m looking at the Boss GT1000 Core or possibly the MS3 to replace a Digitech RP360XP and tri parallel mixer, especially the MS3 can handle the routing mixing that the Tri Mic currently does for me. I’m wondering if the specific routing on the GT1000 Core is recalled on a preset basis. I’d love to be able to use it where some patches would use the sends and returns differently, in some cases not send while receiving and not necessarily receive when sending. The idea being I could use the sends as a splitter and the returns as a sub mixer which is basically how I use the tri mix in my setup

Hey Leo, Im here again as confused as before. my choices now are HX Stomp, GT1000core, or GE300. If you could only buy one, which one? The availability in my country is scarce so I don't really have any choice. I am leaning towards the HX Stomp because of the ease of the UI and the discount you'll get when buying the Helix Native.

Well, it depends on your needs, if your primary use is for home recording, I would pick one between the HX Stomp or the GT1k core (you can check out my opinion between these two, listening My 2 cents section).
