@@akwamarsunzal The Katana MKII head into a 4x12 sounds fantastic. The controls are also more flexible with gain+volume on clean, cabinet response, etc. Shane's demos I've heard before usually sound great but here, the amp sounded dark, muddy and undefined. Definitely not more tube-like than the Katana into a real cab). The Katana's speaker is really not that great IMO, at least in demos I heard compared to others where they used the head into different cabs. I really love my Kat head into my Marshall 4x12 and I'll take that over this here any day.

Great video and playing! I changed from the Katana Artist to the Nextone Artist and got happy with it. For me, the biggest difference is: While the Katana Artist sounds good but more like a modeler or like a recorded amp, the Nextone delivers more of the real tube amp in the room feeling. And it takes pedals very well. The lead channel seems a little too bright for my taste but this is nothing a pedal can´t fix.

I had the Katana Artist and took it back to exchange it for the Nextone Artist. I find that the custom sounds are much better than the standard,and after upgrading via the website to version 2.0,the amp sounds much better with many more options for tweaking. I made my own clean and lead sounds using the Editor which really made a difference. If you want loads of effects and very high gain,the Katana Artist is good,but I feel this is a more tubey sounding amp and now the speaker has opened up a bit,I'm really liking it especially for gigs where volume is an issue because I can get the sound I need at the level I need. My valve amps are great,but less controllable volume wise. The amp is great at very low volume in the house too,and I know that's very important for people where noise is an issue. I gig mine and it's great . I use it at half power,which is plenty,but if you need more,it can get loud,but I stress that's with the custom settings. otherwise it's fine,but you're not realising the full potential of the amp. YMMV

I've owned this amp for @ 3 months. I've used the software to make a library of "amps". What's great is you can have 2 amps controlled by the knobs and 2 more from the library. It didn't take me long to learn the deep editing from the software.

Hey mate, love this amp as well... My number 1 amp I use when gigging. I'm still trying to figure this 2 amps from your library. Is this a new feature with the software update? Do you mean that in custom mode you can have one amp model from your library for the clean, and another for the solo? And that the eq settings can be different for both the clean and solo (in custom mode)? Haven't found it very clear to find this information. Cheers for any help with this.

@@Seanb576 I figured it out!! In the software there's a place for setlist. Create one(for example I made one that I called British One). Then take a clean and dirty patch from the library or from one you've made and save it to that setlist. Then save that setlist to your amp. Taa-Daa!!! Hope that helps! Tried last night doing what you mentioned with the liveset and still couldn't get it to work.. don't know how you got it working this way. I did get around it by using one solo patch I liked (Brit dirty), then using the clean channel on that patch and copying exactly the settings from another clean patch I wanted to replicate. This will also work.. anyway appreciate the time you spent looking into this for me.. champion!!😀

I really like it. I've had mine for about 2 months now. I did not like the Katana. I got a chance at Sweetwater to compare the Nextone to the Katana and many other amps directly. Honestly it sounded almost as good as the Mesa Boogie California. I think Boss has really nailed this one. This, Quilter 101 Reverb, and Hughes and Kettner Black Spirit 200 are the way "modeling" amp technology should progress and will sound great in the future (they already so actually) in my opinion. The amp side of the equation being analog is the key - it feels so good and sounds so much better than digital. After you've experienced it - you just can't go back. I don't think digital will ever cut it outside headphones. There is something there they just can't squeeze out with all the tech we currently have. Effects on the other hand sound great digital - your reverbs, delays, modulations, etc. So - doing something like this with an analog front end and a digital back end is right were we need to be I think.

Great video Shane! If the Nextone Artist is an amp that you might consider going to a Live gig on, it would be nice to hear Dr Ric's opinion on this compared to the Tube amps in his collection. I watched the video several times to listen to the differences between this and the Katana MkII amp. I know you'll address the tones dial-in in your upcoming videos on this 80 watt amp. The elephant in the room is that this amp doesn't have as many features as a Katana MkII 100 watt 1x12, yet it costs twice as much ($700 US vs $360 US). We already know how you feel about the Clean, Crunch, and Lead channels on the Katana MkII as an out of the box settings amp. I went back and watched your Katana Artist 100 watt 1x12 video, and that one looks more comparable to this Nextone Artist 80 watt 1x12, and they are closer in price ($600 US vs $700 US). Looking forward to your next video.

@@connorsme71 there are some killer new amp models they've put on now with the software update. They tweaked the eq so much more with the alot of the new amp models. Just wish they would allow over writting the stock amps of the different power gain option in standard mode (boss hope you're monitoring this).. Was it the artist you bought? Shane, my little daughter is left handed (5 years old). I am right handed and so are all my guitars. She starts playing around with my ukulele and guitarlele. Do you think it would be better to keep her on right handed instruments? I think when you start from scratch, it doesn´t really matter which way you hold it. Boths hands do complicated motions on the guitar. But maybe if she learns playing right handed it will be easier for her finding guitars later. What do you think?
@DenisAhmet
@DenisAhmet 4 жыл бұрын
John O RA I’m a lefty too, difficult one to answer, even if your daughter learns right handed, she may play better and even enjoy it better playing left handed, which is what it’s all about. She may decide it’s not for her. Another crazy thing to consider is that like me I’m left handed in most things like Writing, Football, playing guitar, but I’m a naturally right handed golfer. Some are gifted and equally use left and right items well as each other. The main goal I would say is for her to enjoy it. If you have any old right handed instruments, string it left handed, my first guitar was a Right handed Les Paul Clone strung left handed, intonation may be tricky - I was none of the wiser then, just change the nut and she’s good to go. Interesting what Shane thinks or other lefties out there.

Interested to hear it against its competitor the Blackstar Silverline that has tube modeling also

Andertons paired the Silvertone against the new Katana and it didn’t beat it. So I’m sure the next tone would crush it.

@@hairnation68 well i kind of liked more silverline than katana in that video. its probably what you are searching in an amp. chappers is a gain man.. so yeah..

I want to like this amp and I love Roland amps but I've never really understood why this one exists and who its intended audience is. If I have difficulty determining that then it's justification is too complex and I question the success of this series. It seems to be positioned incorrectly. It's a shame because it has a lot going for it.

The only issue with this amp for me is, if it breaks or starts acting flakey, you never going to find anyone to fix it so it doesnt justify the high cost of the amp and foot switch to me. The only insurance you have is to take out the expensive extended warranty. I love the amp but not the high risk of failure inherent in all solid state amps. I guess if I gigged all the time with this amp, it could justify the high cost.

Today I tried side by side a Fender Deluxe reverb, and a Fender Deluxe reverb tonemaster. I thought that the tonemaster had a bit of something more ......... what?

This amp has been out for a while now. It sits in a different market space than the Katana. This is more expensive and doesn't have many onboard effects. I believe the idea with this is that the 4 core tones it provides are "better" than the Katana can provide, but this doesn't have the effects and acoustic channel of the katana.

I tried this one at Cranbourne music in town and loathed it. In my view it's the least good tube adjacent amp I've tried so far. I couldn't fine a solitary tone that sounded even borderline ok.

@@intheblues To be fully fair, this was in-store and the experience was relatively brief, but I didn't like it at all on any of the preamp sections. Can't blame the guitar either as I was testing a Duesenberg. Also, with all respect due, of all the tube-style demos you've done recently I definitely like the tones in this one the least. Just my 2 cents.
