Excellent demo of the Harmony functions on the VE 20. Having spent a bunch of time customizing patches on this unit, it can be a bit tedious but worth the effort

Thanks Trevor. I have had this pedal a year and use it live for vocal and sax but there were a few things that were niggling me with regard to understanding exactly how it worked. Obviously I understood the importance of the correct key and set up individual patches in different keys. Very easy to do. But the way that you explain this is superb. I will be making little tweaks to my patches, mainly regarding volumes. I thought that harmony volumes were like a wet/dry mix with the original vocal…which they kind of are but I never used 100% I now realise how I can manipulate harmony 1 and two . So big thanks 🙏

Great video Trevor, just picked this pedal up as I need harmonies on a lot of songs. I knew I could generate harmonies using this pedal but am happily surprised I can customize each individual harmony. Pretty cool stuff! Thanks for the breakdown of all of the features of this customization process - super helpful.

Hi. Thank you for your video and demonstration. I am debating between this BOSS VE 20 and the BOSS VE 500, which the latter, for me, seems a little complex for my home studio and sometimes live events as a solo artist with occasional guest vocalists. Do you find the VE 20 sufficient for live performances, specifically with the "limitation" of having to manually change the key for each song? Thanks, and I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos! :)

@joeyc.387 Hi, Thanks 😀👍 Personally I deliberately chose the Ve20 because of the manual key setup... Quite a few of my songs have vocal sections without any instruments playing so manual key setup is required. Also, I would worry that an accidental playing of the wrong chord in a live situation would usually go unnoticed but if the vocals harmonies or pitch correction was wrong too, the result would be very obvious. With 50 user presets on the Ve20, it's easy for me to create a preset for every song, especially since a lot of my songs have different reverb settings anyway. The Boss Ve500 looks good but probably overkill for my needs. In the studio, I think it's just easier to use plugins.

Thanks Trev for the vid. So if i understand this correctly you need to match each song with the proper key for the harmony to sound correct. The harmony effect can not adjust key automatically to each song(be able to set harmony on chromatic to detect key). Also can effects be layered reverb,delay, doubler,etc. to play at the same time in a song. Thanks

Hey Tony, yes, you have to match each song with the proper key - and often, you also have to really know the chorus or part that you are using the harmony to because it can clash, and that's when a double is better. You can set the 'harmony pedal' which is in setup after reverb to custom to have whatever effects you need - reverb, delay, pitch correct. This is useful when doing a delay echo on a particular part of a song for example. I use my ve for live work and often have a preset just for those echoes and a separate one just for harmonies or other effects. So one song might have 2 or 3 different presets I have created. People think I am playing an instrument because I have the pedal in front of me to dial left and right rather than using the stomp

Hi I am new to using this pedal > I finally got it from your video that one needs to set the key for the song to get the right harmony . This can be good for studio settings but how does one use this in live settings where your song list of 4 sets can have different keys and maybe some songs have a key change in them too . Also is there a way to separate the main vocals and harmony as two line outs to the mixer or a DAW for recordings ? Appreciate your inputs

@user-ss1lk3tf5f Hi, personally I have created a user preset for each song I sing live (there are 50 user presets) and name the preset the same as the song, so I can just select the right preset before I play each (takes about 3 seconds). If you need a key change during a song you would probably need to setup to user presets for the song and set the foot switches to preset select mode so the foot switches are use to change the preset instead of switching fx on or off. The Ve20 has the option of mono output or stereo output... The stereo output can be so left out is mono (dry + fx) and right out is dry only but I don't see an option for left as fx and right as dry (or vice versa), so there is no option to output just the wet (fx) signal.

@@IbandUK Sorry I am not to sure I understood some of the terms here . I am bit new to this segment . Q : If I want to record my vocals into Cubase as two separate tracks - Lead vocals and harmonies separately as two separate tracks . How would I do it -Do I need to do this as two separate takes ? and if so - How do I get only harmonies into the DAW without the lead vocals - How do I need to set the Boss VE 20 ? Sorry if this is too basic a question but I am really new to playing and recording with this piece Thanks in advance

Hi good info here, bit confused on Keys, if I set to say C, then all user presets with harmonies/octaves will be in C? or can each preset have its own key? Using mostly for flutes & some vocals. Thanks
@IbandUK6 ай бұрын
@woodwindwebby8271 Hi, Each preset can have a different key... I have one preset set to C, another set to G, another set to D, etc... I have named each preset C, G, D, etc, so I can quickly select the right one for each song

I am going to be using this live, so if every song is in a different key, then I must change to that particular key in between each song??? Not very intuitive?
@IbandUK5 ай бұрын
@dr.jerilynvogelsang3922 Hi, for live I have setup a user preset for each song and renamed each preset with the name of the song. I change some of the fx settings for each song, so this works well for me. This way I can quickly select the preset between songs. If you don't use the foot switches to turn fx on/off during your songs, you can set the foot switches to preset mode and select presets by pressing the foot switches instead of using the knobs.

I can’t hear any difference when I change key on the device . I recorded my vocal and they sound identical
@IbandUK9 ай бұрын
@barrydavison8705 Hi, this might appear obvious but the Key only affects vocal correction or harmonies, so you need at least one set to ON in the settings and foot switch 2 pressed on if the pitch correction or harmonies are set to foot switch 2. The pitch correction Soft setting is not as obvious as the Hard setting, which in turn is not as obvious as the Electric setting. Of course the pitch correction is to the nearest note of the chosen key scale, so if you change the key scale but that note is in both key scales the vocals will be corrected to the same note in both key scales.

Is there an auto key setting for the harmony?
@IbandUKАй бұрын
@j9babe2004 Hi, no, there is no auto key scale option. Usually auto key scale detection requires chord input from a guitar or synth to an audio feed input and the Ve20 does not have an audio feed input.

I can see how you set it up but, not how to save it.
@IbandUK9 ай бұрын
@stephenhoward4483 While there is a Write function on the Ve20, it is used to copy a preset (called a sound by Boss) to another user preset. Any change I make to a user preset (user sound) are automatically saved...
