She asked where I got my melts or candles and he said I make them or buy them from a lady that started her own business making her own with natural ingredients. So, after listening to more of these "trainings" than I really should have through various Anti MLM videos, in my opinion it's 95% attempts at motivational speaking by people untrained to do so, 2% vague instructions, and 3% toxic manipulative sales pitch. Yes these are all made up numbers, so are theirs.

Right I would say that 95% is unprofessional toxic manipulative sales pitch, including these attempts at motivational speaking, all these vague “guidance/training/coaching” sessions. Even the ones who aren’t trying to be toxic - even if they believe what they’re saying - still end up spewing toxic manipulative messages. Maybe less than 1% is actual tangible instructions (really all adding up to recruit more people). The rest of it (though technically ALL of it) is peacocking & showboating on camera, just blathering nonsense while trying to sound important on a sad zoom call with sad participants forced to keep their camera on and pretend to listen to whatever mindless droning, which is usually accompanied with some crappy graphics on a crappy slideshow. Their zoom calls steady have technical difficulties and terrible sound quality, the speaker clearly never practices their slides, and they’re rarely on presenter mode either! In my opinion, it’s probably easier to just assume that 100% of MLM videos are a toxic manipulative mess haha

I lost my twin sister in Dec/22 and while I found my day job to be my saving grace, I had to take a leave of absence from teaching yoga because I just couldnt be there for my students and make it a safe space for them. My emotions were and are all over the place, even 9 months later. My boss (day job) knew I was there but also that I wasnt mentally due to the loss, and he made sure I knew I was not only appreciated but it was ok to not be ok, take more time, talk to him (he too is a twin and we consider each other friends on top of the working relationship)(and no, he's married to a wonderful man). I couldnt imagine being forced to work like she suggested in order to survive. Grief doesnt have an end-date. Thanks for continuing to do what you. I know it can take a mental toll on you, so it's much appreciated the work you do.

I had previously worked with a girl who was with scentsy and my ex’s sister in law was also in scentsy and at the time I thought I was going to end up marrying him so in my mind I was like ‘I’m going to support both by buying from one and then next time buying from the other and just alternating’. That didn’t go well. The former coworker is who I originally would buy from and after the first time I bought from the sister in law she tagged me in a thank you post on Facebook which I assume the former coworker saw and basically ghosted me after that. The former coworker’s dad was the manager there and he’s always been like a mentor/extra father figure to me and we are still in touch. Him and his wife even let me stay with them for 2 months after I broke up with my ex and my husband and I go out to dinner with them occasionally. It’s just crazy how much people let MLMs run their life. I had good intentions and even if I took the time to try and explain my thought pattern to her I think she’d still despise me. As far as I I know, I think she may still be with scentsy. (This story is from almost 10yrs ago.)

When I was younger and more naive I was so close to being suckered in. I specifically remember asking about training, how would I learn where to find people to sell to? They told me ALL the training would come AFTER I signed the papers and gave them money. And there were no example trainings or job descriptions I could read ahead of time. Seems legit. I was with Pink Zebra (scentsy's competition) for 4 years.... I never recruited one person... I didn't know what an MLM was...lol...I just loved pink zebras products.... they do blow Scentsy away.... bc they have sprinkles that you melt and you can mix a bunch of scents to customize your own....and it lasts A LOT longer than Scentsy!!! I've been out of Pink Zebra for over 2 years ....all bc of finding the anti MLM community (Chelsea, Isabella, Hannah, you and Erin) and I got out!!!! You all saved me soooo much money... I STILL have thousands of dollars in old products I can't sell or barely use bc they are old.... bc they do want you to carry stock at home.....bc ppl want it now and to smell it first.... plus the $15 a month for my "website";, you don't pay no one can order!!!! I let my card that was on my consultant expire and never put new info in... my easy way out!!!! And yes Scentsy reps are MEAN.... especially to Pink Zebra reps at events..... it's like a football rivalry!!!😂🤣😂🤣

My goals: raise my son to be a good man (he was the most patient 6 year old ever today when we had to wait almost an hour for our rental car pick up - he even offered the various workers hugs if they looked stressed but he always asked first - so proud of him!); goal 2 - continue improving as a teacher to help students achieve the best level of success all around; goal 3 - make enough as an indie author to be able to travel internationally at least once per year :) I like these goals - both attainable and a bit of a stretch! And oh look no mlm involved ;)

Okay but...part of having a business is adjusting goals for circumstances. If something major happens, say, a global pandemic, most companies would adjust their goals to account for that. Part of owning a business is assessing and making changes along the way. Her advice is incredibly unrealistic. Edit: so don't change your goals, but adjust your strategy? That's not how that works!!

Agreed. Part of being a good business is adjusting goals for circumstances, but also being able to tell when the problem is the circumstances vs when it's your strategy. For example, if there's a major economic boom but you aren't seeing the expected growth, you might need to reevaluate your marketing strategy as it may be ineffective, so then you need to change your strategy. But if there's a major economic problem such as the pandemic or inflation, you need to adjust your goals to meet the economic circumstances and realize that no amount of changes to your strategy is going to meet your very high goals because way less people can afford the extra money for your products. You need to know which one needs to change as a good business.
