Whatever the reason you couldn’t go on Brad and wherever you are in eternity just know you are horribly missed. This is your masterpiece. Boston needed to retire this song.

I'm a 47 year old man. I can remember sitting around the pool with buddies in high school talking about how we are going to get lucky or high that weekend. Every time I hear Boston I still can see myself when i was 16. I still shed a tear when i think what happened to the voice that made me fell young all over again. RIP Brad I hope you sing for the angels. ----Glenn

I had the pleasure of shaking Brad Delp's hand and he personally handed me a concert used drum stick when I saw Boston live in Detroit. I was 16. I had 1st row center at the Joe Louis Arena. I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning, but I can remember every single detail of that show. I actually cried upon hearing of Brad's passing. RIP, and thankyou for some of the best memories and soundtrack of my youth.

My brother Gene, (older half brother on my Dad's side), took me to my first three Concerts, the 87' Texas Jam at the Cotton Bowl, Lynyrd Skynyrd on Halloween night at the Summit, (which is now the Osteen Lakewood Mega-Church), and Pink Floyd at the Astrodome, all three shows in 87'. The first concert, the 87' Texas Jam, the lineup was Fahrenheit, Tesla, Poison, Whitesnake, Aerosmith, & Boston. As Boston was the headliner, they got the unfair advantage of a cool lightshow to add to their performance. To a young aspiring rock guitarist to go on a road trip with my older brother, who didn't live in my house, but I always loved him dearly, and to drive halfway across Texas, which is a pretty damned long trip, and to be bombarded with all the overwhelming sensations of a big rock show, with the sights, sounds, smells saturating your senses, and to be there with my super cool older brother, it was literally like being spellbound by magic itself. During the Boston set, they played a new song off their new album at the time, Third Stage, and this song was a beautiful ballad called Amanda. During this song, instead of purely living in the glorious moment like I had for the rest of the show, I stopped and told myself to look around you, listen to the sounds of not only the band, but the crazy crowd around me as well, to breath deep the sickly-sweet mixture of burning herb, body sweat, with a touch of puke, and to soak it ALL in. But more than anything, to look at my brother and to see the joy on his face and his and my bliss at really living and enjoying our lives, if only for a brief moment. I just had this overwhelming compulsion to REMEMBER THIS! Remember the sensations. Remember this emotion and euphoria. This is a perfect moment. Remember how it is right here and right now. This personal epiphany occurred while Boston was playing Amanda. Now, twenty-seven years later, many years after my dear brother's death, to this day, whenever I hear the song Amanda by Boston, I am literally there again. I can see it, hear it, smell it, taste it and FEEL it. I can also literally see the look of pure joy on my brother's face, and I miss him. I'm a grown 43 year old man, and I just started crying while writing this. That is the power of the memories of the loved ones we've lost... I miss Gene more than I can say...

How awesome for you to have seen all those concerts. I am a year older than you and I remember when this song came out, and I have a love for all of those bands you mention.. I didn't get to see Floyd until 1994 and it was to date, the best concert I have ever been to. I would have loved to have seen Boston. Thank you for your post, it was incredibly descriptive.

+Jilly234 Thank you for your kind reply. I'm glad that I forced myself to look around and to really concentrate on soaking in and absorbing all of my senses. I now have a highly detailed indelible branded beautiful memory that I can treasure for the rest of my life. My dear brother may not be with us anymore, and yet he will always be with me. Sometimes, it is a good idea to stop simply enjoying the moment, in the moment, and to specifically embed it into our psyche so that we can treasure it clearly for the rest of our lives...

John, when I turned 40, an amazing thing happened - I stopped caring so much about how I would be perceived in both words and looks. While I certainly still take care of myself the best I can, I had this shift from being so concerned on the "outward" to being more concerned with the "inward". Your post(s) have resonated with me because I am doing just that these days - I am trying to stop and just take in the moment. I agree with you in that when we do that, we create a memory which is so much deeper and well-rounded at the same time if that makes any sense. Thanks again for sharing your story, and God bless.

I had the honor of meeting Brad on two occasions. The first was at a Beatlejuice show that went on despite a blizzard. When we got there, we were among just a handful fans in attendance. During a set break, Brad approached my brother and I. He was so down to earth and humble. He thanked us for coming despite the weather. I was struck by how genuinely grateful he was for our interest in his music. A year or so later, I was working at a Subaru dealership and this VW Beetle pulled up. Brad stepped out and I said to my manager, “do you know who that is?” He didn’t and I was so awestruck I was frozen. My manager encourages me to go talk to him and when I did, he was just as I remembered him the first time we met. Such a decent human being. If only I had known what the future held for him...

Tom Scholz, because of his engineering brilliance, designed the sound of Boston and most of the bands therafter. He invented the devices that distort, control, and modify the sound of the guitar. He holds a masters degree from MIT and was a designer for Polaroid before he entered music stardom. His first soundtrack that was sold to a recording studio was produced almost entirely by Tom. That record became the biggest selling album of all time.

One of the only Band that sounds soooo much better live than any of their albums. First concert I ever went to. Oakland coliseum Day on the green 77-78?? I can’t remember the year exactly. Lol

A lot of people automatically think Freddie Mercury when talking about the best rock vocalist. I think Brad had an argument here.

OMG! Why do people keep bringing up comparisons? Like whoever you want but comparing rock singers is like comparing apples and oranges. No two are even similar! The same people keep going on about their love for whatever singer they love. GREAT! FANTASTIC! This song is not song by any of those people! If it was, you could do a comparison, maybe. Leave Brad Delp out of the argument about Freddie Mercury and Meatloaf! Its disrespectful when the subject is an amazing song, sung by an amazing man who cannot give us any more of his beautiful voice. If any of those others ever sings "Amanda", you can compare it note for note, but until then, save it for videos from those artists. R.I.P. Brad. I will never forget you and miss you everyday. There are NO comparisons.

Tom must have really loved performing with Brad. The perfect front guy with Tom getting everything else done behind him. They were lucky to find each other.
