I don't like the move, I liked Monty, but I can see why they did it. They need change and the coach is the easiest change. I think this changes nothing. The problem with this team lies with the roster, not the coach. Nothing will change in my opinion.

Will it change anything? 🤔 I have to say I believe the team will actually go through a "honeymoon" period.... time will tell I think! Whether it's for the purpose of saving their own skin (as individual players) or for reasons that point towards the team having stopped playing for Jim. I personally, earlier have given him the 15 game deadline to being fired for reasons that point towards it being easier to Win games early in the season as opposed to when the pressure is greater towards the end of the regular season. I recall you giving Jim him the 20 game deadline. In any event, were about to see what happens. Go Bees!

@TheFoolintherainn Ай бұрын
@@christopherlydon-sr1gu Monty gave every player every opportunity. Let's take a look at what he has to work with.. Hell of a start to Viel's Boston Bruins career. He plays his first NHL game wearing black and gold, about 8½ minutes, doesn't get a hit, shot, take away - but has seven penalty minutes ! and then coach gets fired ! 😆 I'd say there's a connection there!
@christopherlydon-sr1gu
@christopherlydon-sr1gu Ай бұрын
@TheFoolintherainn maybe that's the problem, give the opportunities to the guys who come to play and not the guys just making it up and down the ice. Why split the 4th line when it's the only line producing? Why not play that 4th line more minutes? Why break it up?
@TheFoolintherainn
@TheFoolintherainn Ай бұрын
@@christopherlydon-sr1gu you're asking good questions - I can see the logic and breaking up that fourth line trying to make their magic contagious I think Monty even used the phrase "bringing spark" to other lines. I'm going to backtrack a minute - this is not the team that was set up. It's an off-balance team. We have a major player MIA We started off with two players Mia and could not work on the penalty kill during training camp without our starting goalie! They're going through training camp during the season Here's what nobody's talking about - the $7.75 million aav cap hit for Elias Lindholm - who, like Swayman, is collecting $10 million this year with his signing bonuses 20 MILLION BUCKS FOR WHAT?! Dumping this team's failure on Monty was crazy. My standing up for Monty has gotten a lot of replies. That do have merit YET! the bruins may have an almost 500 record and they may be close to a playoff berth, but they played UGG -- ly hockey even when they managed to beat a team worse than them. they got blown out by the good teams and spanked by the bottom feeders. fans deserve refunds. firing a coach that admits he has no answers is a first step. this is a team that has had holes for years, but they were able to cover them by great leadership and some career years. not this year. every inadequacy is being exposed and burned. the pink slip could have gone to donnie or cam, but they are next if the players continue to play like hackers. personally, i don't expect this to do too much because sacco was from monty's staff. i doubt there is a lot of difference in their outlook or philosophy. how much is really going to change for the players ? anybody seen monty ? i don't understand these players. why play at all if you are not all in every shift ? if you can add ten goals to your normal ten goals and increase your salary by 1 M, why wouldn't you break your ass every shift and every practice to improve ? there is some sort of contagious mental virus infecting this team and only some strong leadership which DEMANDS accountability has a chance to cure them. bad choices on the ice and poor effort don't just happen spontaneously. they are decisions made by players from second to second. they choose to play the guy soft or they choose to hit him. they choose to hustle back and cover a guy, even if it is not needed, because you never know what might happen. this leadership must be willing to call out players for bad effort. i think it must come from the players themselves, and not necessarily the coaches, because these guys are out to lunch.

When the team can't win, you fire the coach, that's the way it is. Their most glaring weakness is they don't have any players who can score goals. It doesn't matter how well the team is coached or how well they play defense, if you can't score, you can't win. Simple as that. Pastrnak is the only legitimate scorer, if he is defended fiercely, they have no one who can pick up the slack, no one!

Joe has been behind the bench for a while now and the “older” players know him and his style. That may be a blessing in disguise, albeit a small one. I think bringing in a new coach amid all the chaos would do even more harm at this point. The veterans in the locker room most likely trust him and that should help to alleviate some of the shock of losing the head coach. These guys are going to be in shock for a minute and I’m definitely curious to see how they respond to this against Utah. Don just shook up the pieces so let’s see where they land.

We know the Jacobs have a misguided blind faith in Sweeney and Neely but the glare of blame has to turn on those guys sooner or later, right? Sweeney still sits in the cat bird seat. He assembled the club, gave them to Montgomery expecting a contender. They played like a contender, all right but for a lottery pick. Sacco takes over for the duration which I don't see as an improvement. For Sacco, Kelly and Leach to work under Montgomery, they had to somehow share the same coaching philosophies. It might be more of the same but in a different register. At year's end, Sweeney & Neely will have another go at a new head coach for next season. Reprieve sustained again depending on team performance. He's been GM for what, a decade? To me his colossal swing and a miss of having THREE first round picks that in the proper hands and assessments, should've set the B's up for years of success. I'm not blaming Zboril or Senyshyn for having first round grades placed on them by Sweeney when they were not of that pedigree. The effects of that blown chance and the bartering of Round One draft picks in the interests of win now hasn't worked. All three are gone with two in Senyshyn and Zboril having no chance at being foundational B's. That reality alone should have had the Jacobs get on the blower to their administrative assistants with "Will you get Don and Cam in here, please?" Instead, these two will have another kick at the can of winning. I hate saying it but they won't as long as those two are still steering the Bruins.

Monty ultimately takes the blame but man o man this whole thing is dysfunctional. Add to the move today, this roster is flawed. WC team at best. The only thing I can see is maybe Don and Neely have someone in mind and that guy isn't available. Not that I know who that is. Or do they go with Sacco all year then give it to Jay Leach. Funny...........they won a Cup with Chiarelli and Julien at the helm. Two outsiders. But they refuse to go back to that. That's where Neely has to be on the hotseat at some point. Sooner than later

And I haven't believed anything out of Sports illustrated since Michael Jordan was on the cover But even a broken clock is correct twice per day I am curious to know if you think we're looking at a Habs tear down and rebuild. Back when Cassidy was sacked, many of us said" if Cassidy's going, Neely should be going" Don takes responsibility in press conferences, but he makes it clear that decisions are made "by committee" I was wondering if giving him another chance with a different "committee" Might be a consideration? I don't think Sweeney and Neely are a matched set. They don't seem like they're buddies

@bruinsdiehards I'm not going to ask you to predict the next coach - wondering where you think they're going - back to basics with a seasoned coach? ( Last Feb I joked about bringing in Claude Julien to assist for playoffs... Get our defense scoring, before St Louis picked him up as assistant.) Then found out from that guy who spits gum, that Babcock advised Montgomery on how to take on the leafs. then I started thinking to myself... Why not babcock? 🤔 A transitional coach. Likely wouldn't be in for more than 2 years, get the system back on track. Or do you think we are looking at: a complete tear down. Starting with the learning curves of a young coach? Choosing coaches has a lot to do with connections behind the scenes that we fans don't see. That you might! There's a funny 2-3 degree of separation away from coaches, players, GMS. Like I never pictured a John Tortorella getting along with Cam Neely! But at this juncture my major question is - retool, bring in some veteran experience - or rebuild & develop younger players, including the coaching staff. Because we have no draft picks. Something's gotta give. I have far more questions than answers So I don't want to send you around in circles on a rumor mill

Let's face it. The last two years' success was due in large part to great goaltending. Now lack of low picks year after year has come to bite the Bs. Two great coaches couldn't solve the the ineptitude of the upper management. Poor drafts, trades and signings. Bergeron retired at the right time.

I think Don Sweeney should have offered salary arbitration as protection against a prolonged contract negotiations- hindsight being 20-20 shouldn’t have traded Ullmark - Sweeney miscalculated this past offseason - $66 million for Swayman? Joe Sacco can’t fix this. 62 games left- Jacob’s needs to rethink this moving forward -

I would think their top 3 would have to be Quennville (yikes), Galant, and maybe Bruce Boudreau. None of those really move the needle, IMO; but Sacco absolutely cannot keep the job. Just like you said, it's not a new voice. He may have a different philosophy, but to much of the same by keeping him

Personally it wont matter who the coach is now. This team of players have proven that they can not jell as a team and so they play like a group of freshman high school kids on day one of scrimmage. Whoever the front office decides to replace Monty has better be a disciplinarian to wip these ladies into some cohisive resembelance of a competative team. Right now a Beer leage team is more exiting to watch than this product made in China.

Well that’s what happens when you have good players. On paper they are impressive. It’s the coaches duty to string them together and fire them up. That just wasn’t happening. He is a good coach though and will land somewhere else. Good luck. We had high hopes when he came in but that 2022 season was a disaster and I thought he blew it when he didn’t bring Swayman in. That shit on Swayman as well, but he recovered. At the time I didn’t even know Ullmark was injured. Stupidity right there. Don’t know who is coming in, but if that doesn’t work you need to retire Neely and Sweeney - too much drama, not enough hockey sense from them.

Even though they had great regular season records, they have choked in the playoffs. Sweeney has put a good roster together for Montgomery. As you said they had the best record in the league, the players just don't regress going into the playoffs, if they had the talent during the regular season, they had it going into the playoffs. The GM has nothing to do if the team collapses when the playoffs.

It’s not about a coach change …though we would wish that it was. There are so many cracks in the defensive line and offensive line. Swayman has to take some responsibility. A new coach will come in and try to establish himself which will take awhile. The coach change should have been in the summer just like what Toronto did. Next year hopefully they’ll be Stanley Cup material but for this year 🤷‍♂️ I don’t know .
