To shoot so poorly and STILL come away with a win is crazy. This was a game Dallas needed to win. We now just have to win one out of two in Dallas to position ourselves for a better chance to win this series. Thats the greatness of this team, next could be a Tatum 40, or Hauser making 5-6 3s or White knocking down a handfull. This is what I don't see for the Mavs. No denying Luka is great, Kyrie capable of (though shut down so far), but a 25-game from Gafford or DJJ looks like a far stretch.

Holiday was so damn good tonight! No one in NBA Finals history had ever had 25+ pts, 10+ rebs,and 75+ FG% with zero turnovers! Un freaking real. Not to mention his defense. He and White once again were lockdown and White’s three & block in crunch time were crucial. Oh and Tatum? Sure he struggled a bit with his shooting, but he was just 1 rebound short of a triple-double. And the only 3 Celts to ever have those numbers (18, 9 & 12) in the Finals? Bird, Cousy and Big Deuce. These guys once again showed poise and did not panic when Dallas cut the lead to 103-98 with 1:15 left. White delivered on defense, JB seals it with the layup. KP said he’s ready to die for Banner 18 and although I still think Dallas could get one at home, momentum is definitely with this group. You just know someone is going to make a big play when it really matters. I mean we missed 29 threes-but still won by 7. Now let’s go get these last two and shut everyone up once and for all!!! ☘️LFG☘️ Thank you John and get some rest-you deserve it. ☘️🔒#IGCOGFY

This Celtics team has been making me rethink my assumption that in order to win in the playoffs, you need great offensive output from your best player. Although Tatum has contributed in other ways, he has not been great offensively and yet this team has so many great players, that I can see Tatum not having a good championship series and this stacked team can still win this series. This team is often scary good.
@dougchase45716 ай бұрын
That is a media driven narrative, propagated by former NBA players, who are stars. It is an ego centric point of view. The Celtics should win because they have a better team. One through six can score and play very good defense. Mavs don’t have that.

Obviously Duncan is an all-time great but in the later years of those great Spurs teams when he wasn't in the top 5ish players in the NBA - those were just really well-balanced rosters. That's a blueprint to building a deep roster if you don't have a top scoring star. Built similar to how this Celtics team is. Both teams with just great rosters with limited flaws. Brad did a great job building this squad.

This was a Celtic's typical 2024 playoff Game 2 scenario where something in their game was off. This game was won because the Celtics refused to let an abnormal night of 3 PNT shooting get them down. Tatum is a solid player. easily Top 25 in the league, MAYBE even Top 20... but yall are making the fanbase look bad gaslighting us with this “JT is a Top 5 MVP candidate” narrative yall been pushing all season but refuse to acknowledge the 27% shooting from the field is literally GIVING the Mavs extra possessions. then he gets the luxury of guarding guys like Gafford who cant create their own shot & are no threat to do anything but dunk yet somehow cook Tatum in the post multiple possessions in a row. nobody cares if JT is your favorite player, but gotdamn stop acting like a woman scorned any time someone outside your echo chamber disagrees. let JB have his shine. let Jrue have his shine. let KP have his shine. stop embarrassing the fanbase by crying for 3 days every time someone says anyone other than JT might be the best 🤡
@thedeliberatemyth6 ай бұрын
I just don't understand why the national narrative about JT isn't how great players (and potential MVP's) find a way to contribute even when the shots aren't falling. He is 2nd in +/-, grabbing every board he can, making so many smart passes, and playing above average D. One common thread of the entire JTJB era had been a team first mentality and an elite defense. In that situation, maybe leading in boards and assists should be given more weight.

For the most part it was such a bad game for both teams. It just felt so stop and go, foul then maybe a small run? Timeout, then block and turnover. Both teams just couldn’t get a rhythm and there was just tension brewing. I honestly thought if it came down to a 1 possession game in the final moments of the 4th it would be a 50-50 game at that point. But then that block… it’s been a while since I’ve seen a defensive performance like this from a team especially in the modern NBA. It was truly a sight to see 5 guys just put it all out there despite shots not falling, they were so in tune with each other defensively.

We need to highlight the real reason the Cs won .. when the 3 ball wasn’t falling they stopped the Mazzula ball of chucking up a million 3s and FINALLY was going to the rim all second qtr and that kept the game close with poor shooting. If they did what they had been doing in other situations like this just shooting 3s missing mavs would’ve been up 10 at the half maybe more . The 3s that were taken in the second half were good quality shots where they moved the ball around. No step backs an just shooting 3s with 19 seconds on the shot clock … also Tatum has to shoot better idk what it is .. but Shout out to Brown white and holiday with that elite defense… Tatum has played good defense also and KP

Luka is competing better against Brown. We will have to come up with a new strategy against Luka because they are starting to figure it out. We need a repeat from everyone. If we can take care of the ball the shot will soon fall. This game was perfect.

Luka only scored 3pts in the 4th quarter...by half time, the Celtics played a lot better against Luka to the point he only score 9 points in the second half.

I disagree with the notion it should be a 1-1 series. Celtics had full control of that game yesterday. Just couldn’t hit a few extra shots from 3. Celtics get exactly what they want more often than not.

He was injured when they played Minnesota. Whsts the excuse? He is on the floor. That's a way to minimize the impending sweep

Maaan… People are ripping Tatum apart. I almost wish he’d focus on scoring and drop 40+ one of these games just to shut people up.

but John, Tatum shot 6/16 in game 1… why are we pretending 6/22 is an aberration? he’s shooting 28% from deep & quite a few of those shots were the same old forced dribble down iso threes at critical moments. & how many layups did he miss losing control at the rim? i LOVE the facilitating, i LOVE the rebounding. Tatum is a supremely gifted athlete. but this version of Tatum is just not as effective as the “Top 5 All-NBA MVP candidate” the Boston media was pushing all season long. sure, he did what was necessary to win… but if he just played up to his established regular season level this game is a blowout, not a tight game with the Celtics nursing a 5 point lead with 2 minutes left needing a miracle chasedown block from White/Brown to keep this game from turning into a free throw contest at the end. the best players play their best ball when it matters most. we now have an 8 game sample size of Tatum underperforming in the Finals. this version of Draymond Tatum is good enough to win ONLY because Dallas isn’t GSW & the Celtics added 2 more All-Stars to help carry. the Boston media narrative around Tatum has to change. if he’s going to play rebounding facilitator like a young Ben Simmons, thats fine (as long as the C’s win)… but PLEASE, for his sake & ours, let’s lower expectations & stop pretending he’s an All-World scorer who can take over the game at any minute. he just can’t.

Very good comments. I agree. But the media Are pagan idol worshipers, and so are many fans. They need a basketball God to worship. “Who is the goat” Is a great example of foolish speculation. It is a team sport, and Tatum is trying to fit into the team. If he takes too many shots, while shooting poorly, he reminds me of Marcus Smart, and Antoine Walker… People who believed the headlines of these idolatrous propagandists put out about how great they were. Missoula must reign him in. Tatum is good enough to help the Celtics win by doing many other things besides scoring. I think they play better in the playoffs when he shoots much less.

Dallas is not the same in the 4th when Kyrie and Lucka are playing defense all game

If I'm Jason Kidd, I'm looking to shake things up in a major way, because what's worked in other series just won't work against Boston. Instead of trying to stop Tatum at all costs, I'm daring him to beat Dallas by himself in 1-on-1 coverage, limiting those drive and kicks and the plays he makes for the rest of his team. I'm also trusting the championship pedigree of Cryrie and making him the primary ball handler, hunting Al Horford for the mismatch in the pick n roll. I'm also trusting him to find Luka off the ball. That will also take offensive pressure off Luka so he can play better defense which Dallas desperately needs. If not and Kidd thinks he'll get more production out of his team doing the same thing they've done in Boston, this is gonna be a sweep. They'd have to pray for another poor shooting night from Boston to even have a chance at stealing a game. I really don't see Dallas beating the Celtics 4 times in 5 games.
