Rotisserie is my fave for chicken Greg! - Two nights ago, I did a 7-lb home raised chicken on my gas grill with a Costco smoke pellet filled smoke tube - My best chicken cook yet! - Cheers! Due to its size, it took over 2 hours at 275 F but it was well worth it - still moist, tender and juicy with just enough smoke flavor.

Boston Markets were all over in the late 90’s then Grocery Stores started selling rotisserie chickens, then Costco and Sam’s Club started selling them for less than you could buy a whole raw chicken . Now in my area they are gone.

Hey Greg, another awesome delicious video from the San Diego master! See you use your El Patron I wanted to ask you if it really can replace the traditional offset stick burner. I had a great Meadow Creek T70 smoker and sold it when I moved last year and now I would like to kind of have it back but this time something that is not as big and more manageable. From what I see here this looks perfect....I love to rotisserie, and I really only cook for myself so doing briskets is kind of a waste however beef plate/pork ribs/pulled pork are the answer and nothing beats the smoky goodness of true wood burning logs. I would sure appreciate if you could suggest any good options if I do decide to consider the LSG. Many thanks!
@handcannon13883 ай бұрын
You have reminded me that I need to do a couple rotisserie chickens on my Weber Kettle. I also need to reinforce the Onlyfire rotisserie's bracket, which can flex and let the spit rod back out of the motor socket - thereby defeating the purpose. I don't imagine that is a problem on the LSG. How about a giving a rib roast a spin on that unit? Not a $300 one, either, do a budget "choice" grade. Some homemade horseradish sauce would make it even better.

Hi do you think you can spatchcock the chicken and cook it flat on a gas grill or kamado? Thanks

I do a citrus marinade. Lemon, lime, sometime orange too. Just salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder. I will put half a lime and lemon in the cavity too and season the cavity. Sometime add whole smacked garlic cloves to the cavity too. Simple, but effective. I'll have to try yours sometime though. Looks good. What beer did you pair with it? I usually have Four Peaks Kilt lifter and Elysian Space Dust in the kegorator.

Good call on taking the dark meat a fair bit further. 180 is definitely not too hot, and it is 100 percent possible to cook the dark meat that hot without drying out the breast, as you've shown. Improves the thighs and drumsticks dramatically in my opinion.

@BallisticBBQ Greg - Would LOVE to see you tackle Costco's rotisserie chicken, too. I've never seen anyone nail it but I'm betting you can! BTW - What happened to the instructions for the rest of the Boston Market Chicken recipe? It stopped at removing the chicken from the marinade and resting it for 20 to 30 minutes. It helps when you include cooking instructions.

Did you get your rotisserie kit direct from LSG? The picture on the LSG website shows a spitrod that has a fat plastic handle on the RH side which would require putting the rod in from right to left and loading the meat inside the cooker. I know you can buy a variety of rotisserie equipment from One Grill. Just wondering what you did. Thanks for the informative video.
@BallisticBBQ3 ай бұрын
It did come from LSG, I just spaced on putting the handle on, because this cook didn't need the counter weight and the handle holds the weight in place. This is a One Grill kit however.

Great looking chicken! El Patron question for you. I'm considering buying one, but I'm concerned about the door handle height when fully open. I am probably a little shorter than you. Do you find the handle height when the door is fully open problematic? It looks like it is way up in the air!
@BallisticBBQ3 ай бұрын
Great question, Damon. I'm 5'10" and I do not find the height problematic. If it helps, I just went out and measured from the ground up to the handle while the door is open and it was 79" from the ground.
@damonhenslee25603 ай бұрын
@@BallisticBBQ Thanks so much for responding, this helps a ton! So I'm 5'7", I just marked 79" on on the wall, this may not be the cooker for me :). I think I would have to stand on my tip toes to open and close, that is a bummer.

Boston Market had to file for Bankruptcy and then were nicked for fraud and tax evasion and had their secret headquarters seized by the IRS (The Street has a recent article on this). Therefore most of their locations closed abruptly and a lot of employees and suppliers didn't get paid.

El Patron is around $2000. Yikes. I don't see how the price is justified. That is about 150 Boston Market chickens. Not to mention having to pay for the raw chicken, coal, spices. It would end up being more like 300 chickens before you break even. I know it does more than rotisserie chicken and I'm sure yours is better than Boston Market. I would be cool to use it for Churrasco, but all you need is a fire pit and some long skewers.
@BallisticBBQ3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment. I didn't make this video as an example of how much money you'd save making Boston Market chicken at home. I made it to showcase the cooker and my recipe. Now, as far as the cooker value, I believe there is a lot of bang for the buck here. It performs like an offset, "hotbox smoker," pizza oven, wood-fired oven, Santa Maria Grill (Reversed), and a rotisserie grill. Plus it is literally built to order. The closest thing to this (as I pointed out in my intro video) would be a Kamado. The BGE 2XL would be the closest example of a very versatile system and costs about the same. The 2XL has less cooking surface, is circular, which is a handicap, and won't last as long as the El Patron.
@yugnok3 ай бұрын
@@BallisticBBQ I recognize that it wasn't about cost saving. I was just making a point about value. Maybe there is more to it that I'm not seeing and I'll do a little more research. But honesty, I am having a lot of price fatigue lately. Keep up the good work. Great videos.
