Well, it isn't because he's playing well. A good chess player could have barely created an account explaining the rating away. It's that the time for decision making isn't reflective of how a human plays and moreso somebody waiting for an engine to churn the evaluation. There are "obvious" moves that people would play that the person takes too long to do and some moves being played that don't make sense yet yield better positioning as play continues.

i have to concede it wouldn't work because of matchmaking: opponents are selected to have the same rating on average, so if you draw every game, you lose just as much as you gain. he must be allowed to win under certain conditions (let's say opponent gives up before move 5, or refuses a draw after 20 moves); otherwise, he literally can't make any progress.

that's an insulting question. any titled player should. Hikaru is drastically stronger than most but a queen is a queen. he would put up enough complications to make it interesting, maybe even trick weaker ones into draws sometimes, but overall if there is a person on earth you can't beat with queen odds you are not good enough to be a titled player. it's no slight to Hikaru; Levi should beat stockfish with queen odds.

maybe a mouse slip. but not a forced mate: (M1)...Qg1. (M2) Rh7+ Kg5 (M3) Ra5+ Kf6 (M4) Kh4 and after Qxh2, Bh3. But then if black does Nf2, I don't see how white could escape losing a rook and a bishop without getting mated (Rf7+ Kxf7), which is gg anyway. should've bought a better mouse

I gotta say the argument for why make another spiderman movie, it’s kind of a weird argument. People enjoy it plain and simple. I get it’s not your thing but it’s the same reason why they make a new fifa or call of duty game every year or why someone will play a single game like chess for their entire life ya know? Everyone enjoys different things, just cuz it’s done before doesn’t make it bad for that fact alone

Theoretically if both people are playing perfect computer moves every move then sure, but we aren't computers, especially in the endgame it's memorizing checkmating patterns combined with legitimate strategy to either trick your opponent into a mate or blunder or even just a small mistake.
