I love your voice, and I think you have an amazing ability to interpret songs and to convey the emotions expressed in an original, unique way. I really did fall in love with your tone and style of singing on "The Voice," and I have followed you ever since. I am not sure why you chose to leave out one of the verses of "Both Sides Now," but I wish you had sung the full song. I think "Both Sides Now" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Cutting out one of Joni Mitchell's verses is like reciting a Shakespeare sonnet, but deciding to leave out one of the stanzas, because you think the poem is a bit too long. If you cut a stanza from a sonnet, it's no longer a sonnet. Joni's lyrics are poetry. If you change a word, you change the meaning. If you leave out a verse, you haven't improved the song. My reaction wasn't, "Oh, this is an interesting interpretation. Let me listen to this again." My reaction was, "Oh, she left out one of the verses. Let me go back to the original version, so I can hear how it's supposed to be sung." "Both Sides Now" is so beautiful not only because of the amazing metaphors, but also because of the extraordinary structure: three verses, plus a chorus that changes each time based on the preceding verse: clouds, love, life. I realize that statistics suggest that people will listen only to songs of a certain length. I hope, in the future, that you will let your artistic vision govern the choices you make. Don't worry that people won't listen to a long, full song. People will listen, because you have an amazingly beautiful voice. I certainly will listen.
