Just an update on staying power - I didn't shoot checkin-ins but I was keeping an eye on things! The complexion products and the eyeliner lasted quite well! The eyeshadow micro-sparkles got a little flaky down on my cheeks. The lip color looked FLAWLESS on my top lip all day. But the inner part of the lower lip wore down very obviously after eating lunch. However that was the only area of wear-down. I would purchase this again in a more natural shade, closer to my actual lip color so the wear wouldn't be as obvious. But that balm on top made it feel really comfortable! :)

I love the L'oreal two step lipsticks. You get the stay all day lip color that doesn't move around but a nice balm to keep the dry awful feeling away. I was surprised by how much I liked them. Definitely something that I'll now get more of sonce they're bottom shelf cheap.

That is a fun idea! Maybe something like "longstanding icons of the drugstore." I use Coty Airspun daily - it's great for keeping me matte during Texas summers. I know Revlon has a lot of "original" lipstick shades (especially in the Moon Drops line) - Persian Melon, Blase Apricot, Cherries in the Snow, Fire & Ice, Orange Flip, Love That Pink. And the CG "Clean" line, Cheekers blushes, of course the favorite Shimmering Sands trio! :) Dr. Pepper lip smacker is another one.

Long comment from an ex-retail professional: I was a Presentation Team Leader at a Target in Omaha from ~2014-2016, and beauty was my favorite department to reset. We didn't use vendors for our planograms -- we set everything ourselves, and I planned, worked and oversaw the Transcend Beauty transition that transformed the cosmetics department with new fixtures back then. As I've seen other people saying in the comments and I echo: new launches are always positioned at eye-to-top level (and on endcaps) to catch people at eye-level when they're walking. Tried and true old products that Target decided to keep in the store (because they probably consistently sold well?) generally kind of shift down and over to make room for newer stuff at the top. I was often impressed (and sometimes baffled) at how thoroughly the HQ bigwigs at Target planned exactly where everything went though. I remember before I became a Team Leader reading in an internal store update brief about how Target started positioning their house brand (Up & Up) to the right of the name-brand products they were copying because of some statistic about X percent of shoppers being right handed, so they'd naturally reach for the off-brand instead. Pretty smart, but also kind of control freak-ish, haha. Retail space is a fascinating topic though -- Stephanie Nicole here on KZbin breaks some of it down really well in her B.O.M.B. Challenge video, too in regard to shelf space designated for deep skin-tone products, too.

I worked at Ulta for 4 years and was around for countless planogram changes and several mass overhauls. A lot of times the bottom section remains the same with staple older products and the top section is reserved for new launches and limited edition products so the employees that the vendors (L'Oreal, Maybelline, etc) send dont need to move around as much product. The limited edition and discontinued products are often moved out and sent back to the vendor prior to the reset to make room for more new product. The main reason for the marketing inconsistency around smaller brands/brands with less space, is that the planograms vary based on store volume.

The L'Oreal long last lip color you used is my favorite. It beats the other long last lip products from other brands out. It's consistency and how it applies is just better than the others. I recently bought the L'oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes mascara after finding it on a list of drugstore tubing mascaras. It wasn't literally on the bottom shelf, but it was one I'd never looked at or heard anyone talk about, and I really love it! It's one of those two-step, primer and then mascara systems. It's not much of a volumizer but I get great length, amazing staying power, doesn't smudge, and removes easily with warm water. Definitely worth a try!

I just started using something from the bottom shelf myself and I love it! Maybelline Full n Soft mascara in the waterproof version. Like you, I don't generally do waterproof but ALSO like you, I struggle w keeping a curl in my lashes. Waterproof seems to do this much better with the added bonus of no dark undereye on long days. Taking off waterproof is slightly more work, but less work than say using false lashes.

I used to LOVE that mineral powder in highschool! I would use the brush in it to apply the powder foundation, blush, and bronzer! I would put concealer underneath everything and then blend it out with my finger so that one brush was all I needed to do my whole face. Simpler times, right?

Forgive me if someone has answered this query already. More often than not brand name companies will pay a fee to place their products in a given store. Generally they have a planagram which indicates where everything should be placed in their 2, 4 or 8 foot section. That's why better selling products are always on top. Also some marketing strategies suggest a right hand dominance when displaying items give the majority of people are right handed. Anything to make a sale. I really appreciate this video. Here u got a boat load of high end make up and here u are doing a drugstore. Love it! Ur so real no bragging about the makeup u got. This is why I never miss a video! It brought me back to the makeup I used as a young girl. Cover girl foundation in the glass bottle that smelled like noxzema. Lol. The mascara that had the pink tube and black lid. Cover girl blush in Rosey pink. Then I used my fingers to apply foundation and sponge applicators for shadow. And the blush brush I would really fan it out just right. And I used the liner that was black and the pencil was a red. It was so dry me and my friends would burn the tip just for a second to make it melt. Lol we had the Pat Benatar look rocking girl!

I don’t know it was on the bottom shelf maybe in the middle but the L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara in the gray tube. I forgot how AWSOME that mascara was. I ended up going back to it and added it in my rotation. It is truly the original go to from back in the day. Reminded me of high school and that was a long time ago. So glad they kept it around as it is still AWSOME. The voluminous primer is still fantastic too!!!

Usually the stuff that is really wanted or on promotion gets a display, while the products that the store tries to sell more of for any reason is going to be at eye level because people are most likely to buy them for the accessibility even if they might pay less for the same product from another brand that's been placed lower on the shelves. That goes for anything not just makeup. Both my parents work in retail and although we don't live in the states, I can imagine there are roughly the same rules everywhere.

I use that L'Oreal powder foundation for hard to cover zits/acne. With a tiny, tiny brush over foundation, under powder. It works so well! I bought it for foundation and didn't love it (back when it was new) and discovered this use and have been using that way ever since. Can't be too heavy handed because it can get cakey but I tend to pick (I know) and it can even cover that.

I just picked up that double sided L’Oréal lip product and actually really like it! I have a lovely nude and it’s been a fav lately!
