I've been climbing for about 2 years total, but took a year long break due to many circumstances. I've been wanting to not only get back into rock climbing, but relearn from a beginner's point of view because I'm sure (especially after watching this video) that I developed some bad habits. Many people are saying it, but I really do love the format--it's concise, it's easy to watch and listen to, and positive. Thank you for your videos!

Watch Dave McLeod's videos. He talks about how he was plateaued for years and years at that level, and then he began a very regular hangboard and campus routine, he's doing V15's in his late 40's now.

Although the terms novice and beginner are synonymous if I were to make a ranking I would place beginner before novice. The term beginner implies the absolute beginning of a journey whereas novice is a bit ambiguous and in common usage it is a person that is new to a profession. Beginner | V0, V1; Novice | V2, V3.

I ve never been in a climbing gym. The only thing i was taught by my rock climber friend and tried it out is to hold the light swich on ghe wall and search where there is a place that i can get hold on and place my toes to the verical tile which is situated between the floor and the wall. Then after taking my time to deside my nexthands move to grab from any tiles gap, or aheater tube and may be another light switch that i can grab with the edges of my fingers and hold all of my body

Your videos are very refreshing. I always come back to them and recently found that my foundational skills in climbing are quite lacking. Coming back to your videos sparked in me a totally different approach to climbing. Although I've only been climbing five months, I've gotten ahead of myself attempting V4's with way too much effort and no technique. From now on - for my first year - I'm going to only do up to V3, and focus most of my climbing on V0 - V2, going slowly, methodically, calculated. As much as my muscles have already adapted - my soft tissues haven't... and it would be heartbreaking to injure my fingers because I became too excited about my progression. Can't wait for more of your videos. 🤙

Great video series! I love how you organise and edit your videos: you get straight to the point and explain everything clearly. I have a request/suggestion. It looks like you're climbing on walls which go 5-6 meters up! I love climbing but would much rather climb (i.e. with a rope) than boulder because I'm afraid of being injured by falling (or landing, rather!) I know many people who tore their ACL from bouldering falls, and just recently I got whiplash myself from my head bouncing off the mat when I rolled onto my back. I wonder if you could do a video about *falling* in bouldering -- how to do it safely etc, especially when you're higher up on the wall?

The quick solution would be to climb down some of the way (ideally the whole way). Every instructor will tell you that on day 1 of your climbing.

While climbing with long arms is of course correct it might be worth mentioning that it is still important to engage the shoulderblades during climbing. they will support the movement and prevent the development of a climbers back and bad posture.

I don't climb at this level but still watched the full video. I had never heard of T-Rexing and it is something I think I avoided but I will now be more conscious of. Can't wait for the higher grades. I'm currently around v4-v5 and 5.10-5.10+ but lacking a person to teach me better technique in the gym. My largest struggle is with slopers, but mostly the larger kind. The ones that you can easily fit a fully spread out hand on. I've been doing slab bouldering to try and focus on foot placement and being able to trust standing on smaller chips. Hopefully that helps with my all around climbing skill.

One KEY thing which better climbers forget to teach absolute novices, but which is a vital technique is this: Whichever hand you want to let go with, you must get your weight over that foot FIRST!! For instance if you want to reach up with your right hand, first you must get your weight over your right foot. Otherwise you'll over balance and swing off the wall. Once you gain more experience there are other more technical ways to overcome this, but for absolute novice climbers think "Left foot, left hand....right foot, right hand. Or Left, left.... right, right...left, left...right, right... Watch any climbing video carefully and you'll see this pattern almost immediately.
