This is super rad, haha. Many overlanders always romanticize this nomadic lifestyle in their social media posts but never wanna talk about the bathroom situation.

I am bougie because I need a shower once or twice a day. Even if it is just a couple of water bottles. When over in the Helmand and such we would warm our water bottles by motor or sun. 3 - 4 liter bottles are plenty to shower. Also put a yea bag of two in the bottle to sit in the sun for ice tea!
@uweschroeder5 жыл бұрын
We use a 12V shower (plugs into car outlet) and it's essentially just a shower head, some vinyl hose and a small pump at the end. Advantage to that is that you don't need to use onboard water, downside is there's no water heater. We have a small popup shower tent and you can get both the shower and the tent for under $60 online. I always bring 3 homer buckets - one for showers, one for grey water and one for a handwash station (yes, sorry, I'm OCD about washing hands). To get a warm shower, grab some water from a lake or stream, heat part of it in a pot, mix to nice temp and have a shower. 2 or 3 gallons do nicely for 2 people. For shower reasons we tend to camp near a source of water at least twice a week and since you shouldn't drink the water, grabbing water from a lake or river for a shower is perfectly ok and it conserves your drinking water supply.

When I go overlanding with the tent, I use my luggable loo toilet and biodegradable body wipes. That works just fine for me. When I'm boondocking with the RV, I have a full shower and bath, but limited water and sewer tank space (small RV = small tanks). So, I supplement showers with the biodegradable body wipes and ensure I at least wash my lady parts once per day, even if that's ALL I wash. I also use my luggable loo instead of the onboard toilet when I'm boondocking. That helps my 40 gallon tank last a full week or longer while still cleaning up daily. I never use public toilets or public showers.

You guys make great videos. Easy and funny to watch! I am an overlander too, and we checked out ur videos with some other overlanders, specially because we are planning on going for the fourwheel camper on a pickup too. We gave u a nickname when we want to check some stuff u post, it is: "If we ever need to", It goes with love! You said that so much when you made the tour around the tundra! Again, u guys are funny, lovely and geniuses! Cheers guys! All the best!
@BoundForNowhere5 жыл бұрын
Funny that you say that, because I was so bummed about that. It wasn't obvious until after the edit. In the end though that is kind of what Overlanding is all about... we drive these ridiculous rigs around that are overloaded with gear that is there for "in the event we need it" Which I now know is obvious! ;) Glad you guys get something out of all of this!
@ingdanielluna5 жыл бұрын
@@BoundForNowhere please don't get the wrong idea, ur videos are great, u guys are ultra cute, and there is nothing wrong with the "if we ever need to". And I completely agree with that, our rigs are a lot about things u might end up using. One thing we were amazed by after 2 years, is the fact that a bunch of stuff we though we would end up getting rid of halfway, ended up being super useful. In the end, for us, we ended up using most of the stuff we carried, and that also happened to some fellow overlanders. So, I would say that the "if we ever need to" is an essential cannot-go-without practice! Thanks for replying! Cheers!

Try using baking soda as a deodorant. Commercial deodorants only mask body scents which aren't caused not by your sweat, but by bacteria. Baking soda changes the acidity level and the bacteria are gone. Old backpackers trick. I also use baking soda as toothpaste when I am out since it uses less water, less foam, less mess and less weight. Helpful video!

@@BoundForNowhere I have one called "Boulder Bidet"; it's not currently available but you can still see what it looks like on Amazon. It's a squeezable 8oz bottle with a sprayer nozzle that you use to squirt water on your parts. I imagine it'd be useful to you guys on the road in addition to on backpacking trips! It's soooo much better than TP for about 100 reasons, number one being that you feel cleaner. My bf uses a dedicated bandana to dry off but I just drip-dry.

Oh I've seen other travellers and apparently diva cup is one of the best options, you need a cup of boiling water to clean the cup. Like wipe it first, then wash your hands and the cup with the same water and same very mild detergent (like consider getting one of those foam pumps that use water + liquid soap, I have some and it lasts for a long time). If you have a few min to spare, wash it in a half cup of boiling water (it surprisingly doesn't require a lot if you have a cup that fits nicely and let it warm up for a bit, then let it cool in a clean tissue paper and back on.
