You guys really are awesome. After watching the full series of videos on the JMT we had to see more JMT videos. Every video we have watched has been lacking. You guys did such a great job I had to come back and say "Thank you!" We really loved it all but the break down of the days miles, elevation gain/drop, start and stop times was good to help us understand the big picture of each day. Your planning and following the plan was also awesome as we have watched several people struggle for lack of a plan and or not sticking to the plan. I am an aircraft mechanic by trade but the old pilot adage of "file the flight plan then fly the plan" seems to fit. Thanks again.

If you haven't found a good shampoo yet, I have been using Giovanni shampoo and conditioner for years. Decades, in fact. Just looked at their site and they are biodegradable. Only products that don't cause my scalp to break out in a rash with regular use. I love the tea tree set, but have also used the 50:50 and silk products.

You can buy and/or reuse deodorant stick containers by heating them up. My wife makes a good baking soda, coconut oil, minty mixtuer.. It's hard to go back to the sticky goop of normal deodorant.

I have been using Dr. Bronners for shampoo for 20 plus years now with no issues at all. Also have used it for tooth past now and then too. It works but might not taste great but after you rinse it fine.

Check out Renpure Advanced Tea Tree and Lemon Sage Shampoo. It has zero sulfates, parabens, dyes, gluten, phthalates or propylene glycol. It's also great to keep bugs away which is an added bonus. Also it was great hanging out with you at MAOF over the weekend! Thanks for being there and sharing all the stories and info.

I've had a lot of success using just baking soda and water as a shampoo. I mix 1 Tbsp baking soda with 8 oz of warm water in a squeeze bottle and shake it to dissolve. Massage it in and then rinse. I use it 2-3 times per week followed by a conditioner and it works really well. I'm definitely going to try the deodorant, thanks for the tip.

For deodorant I use activated chlorine dioxide solution/mms or hydrogen peroxide in a small spray bottle. Kills germs/bacteria that causes odors👍 For hair is make a onion skin tea, baking soda and rinse with vitamin C powder or apple cider vinegar and water. I use shea moisture as well (sometimes but not often)

Really enjoy your well thought out organized and executed experiences. I call it the Martha Stewart of Vanlife vs the cobbled hobbled spit and glue versions that litter KZbin that are cringe worthy at times. You guys are a dream team! It’s so much fun watching it done well. Thanks for setting the bar high and the example to follow and learn from.

Hi Mak, What hygiene tips and tricks would you recommend for those of us on the road who are menstruating?
@BoundForNowhere5 жыл бұрын
I recemmend a dive cup-like system. They don't need to be changed or tended to nearly as often as a tampon and there is ZERO waste. When I would head out to take care of it I would take a water bottle with me to do a rinse on it before reusing it. Baby wipes will always be your friend. We always try to find plant-based ones since we don't have to worry about them being flushable and stock up on them when we find them. If you're wanting to stick with tampons, I would us an OB style because of how little packaging there is for them. Wrap the used tampon in toilet paper and take it back to the rig to dump it in our trash can as I do with all of our TP and baby wipes. I've also heard of people using a Portable Bidet this can also be a good way to keep the whole area clean. I've even heard of people eliminating TP all together with this thing. This is something I'd like to start experimenting with eventually!

You can use dr bronners for shampoo as well. There are so many uses. Such as car wash to toothpaste. Seriously best product on the road or in home.

Sorry off topic...but now that you've had your truck/camper build, could you do a video on what you like, don't like and would change? I'm debating between a Tundra/FWC build like yours or just going with a Sprinter similar to a Winnebago Revel. These things are so expensive, I want to make the right choice the first time!

Hey Mak. Do you guys have Lush in over there ? They're a British company that's all hand made and natural. I use a lot of their stuff as it either doesn't come in plastic or if it does you can take it back & they re-use it. I use their shampoo bar it's lasts a long time and is all natural. I'm a guy with short hair though I don't need a lot. Hope you're having a great week.

Dr Bronner's or Kirk's castile soap can also be used as a shampoo. Results will depend upon the rinse or conditioner used. I simply use Kirk's with a vinegar and water rinse. Perfect. If I need a conditioner, I apply a tiny amount of coconut oil sometime before the shower.
@gypsybelle47574 жыл бұрын
Kirk’s now comes in a liquid form as well. That might work better as shampoo. I’ve actually seen it at Kroger.

Thanks for the info Mak! I’ve been thinking about trying the quip toothbrush. This may sound odd but my favorite shampoo is the Young Living Animal Scents Shampoo. I used my dog’s in a pinch when I ran out of my other shampoo, and I ended up liking it so much I switched. I don’t love the MLM aspect but I do like supporting my friends who sell it so I don’t mind too much. It lasts a long time and smells nice and herbally. Plus it has citronella so it’s bug repellant too haha. I have really think hair and this leaves it clean and soft

Also, for those deodorant "crystal" it's basically potassium-alum (potassium aluminum sulfate). it's usually the one being pointed at for being "toxic" in drug store deodorant. So yeah, while the crystal is much less wastefull (you can by it without the packaging AND it help stop the bleeding when shaving with a sharp razor) it's basically the same as other deodorant. ;)

Hair Food. Shampoo and conditioner.Totally natural and safe for the environment and yourself. Costs a little bit more than most products, but smells so good. I buy the avocado/ylang and argan oil. I got thick curly hair so perfect for me. I used to model and was always taught to get the best shit for my hair. So yea, this works. In Canada we use those biodegradable wet naps to keep your privates clean when you can't bathe. Stay clean :) and...you remind of a creamy popsicle lol
