I do NOT see "Hit and Run" as a problem. A player is under ZERO obligation too, "give you a chance to win your money back". I have heard this stupid argument forever, and it makes absolutely no sense. It is NOT your money he won it, and it is his money... he can leave anytime he wishes too leave. I have never understood why anyone thinks he is doing anything wrong by leaving if he so desires. If a player is mad that someone won his money, that player should not play poker.

You will be banned if caught most likely... you cannot remove money from the table unless you leave the game for some period of time... most casinos will not let you resit at a new table unless you place all the money you had on the table previously, unless several hours have passed (assuming the floor is aware), or you play at a different stakes. I agree with most when talking about hit and run. I think that one depends on who and where you’re playing. If I’m playing a local home game then I’m not going to hit and run and most people won’t, that’s just understood. And the players that do hit and run in home games don’t often get invited back if they break the rule a few times. Now in Vegas or at a casino??? Hell yes I’m gonna hit and run if I hit a few big hands a few times quickly. You put your money down and I won, it’s now mine and I’m gonna go spend it. If I go all in and lose then it’s gone so if I win its the same, gone.

Oh man. I hate playing with players that try to tell me how to play, but I love taking their money. I have played poker since I was a kid, played competitively for 30+ years, and recently this guy kept criticizing the way I played, because I "didn't know how to play properly" and I often intentionally irritate players to the point that get involved way more often than they should, anyway, I flop a straight and overbet, he starts telling me how stupid I was for overbetting, and I say "well I flopped a straight" he immediately says "no, you didn't, or you wouldn't bet that much, you would check" and calls. I check the turn and he smugly goes all in, of course I call and he continues bitching, but rebuys and dumps it all to me again. Gets up, pissed, I say, "but I thought you were a poker expert?" He rebuys again and dumps it all to me again. Would always avoid playing with me after that, telling people I was a donkey that got lucky one night, 🤷 yeah, for 30+ years, which don't get me wrong, I do experience quite a bit of luck. Good and bad, cancels out long term, but my skill is knowing when I can get under a players skin and picking my spots

Good tips but a few of the rules I think are a bit overstated. The first is the "no hit and run" rule. I could only see this rule applying at a small home game or something, but if you're playing a cash game at a casino, you have no obligation to play a game that you don't think is profitable. If you won a big pot and you're winning a few bucks, and you think this is a good time to leave, that's your perogative. Also, not eating at a table. I mean, it depends what it is. Some foods are really messy but in general it's acceptable to eat something simple. And complaining about bad beats is a bit of a middle ground thing. I know it's considered rude nowadays but a lot of us just can't help it. But there's different levels of complaining. You don't need to insult the other person but it's okay to mumble a little when you get an unbelievably bad beat.

a lot of this sportsmanship stuff honestly only applies to cash games, and mostly private cash games as if you're obnoxious they just simply won't invite you back while your behavior has to be pretty egregious to be banned from a casino. tanking at tournaments obviously gives small stacks a slight edge (while calling clock gives big stacks a slight edge) which is why they've implemented shot clocks and/or time chips at most tournaments in an attempt to combat this.

Eating at the table: Follow the etiquette of the room. If other people are eating and there are accommodations for it, like side tables to hold your plate and glass, politely eat for food. Many places now have servers just for that now, it's part of the atmosphere, just don't be a slob and get grease or food on the cards or the main table itself. "A standard guideline is to tip 1-5% of the pot." No, it isn't. Standard guideline is to tip $1 per pot at most low-stakes games, perhaps more (smallest available chip) at higher-stakes games. Individual players may have personal guidelines for additional money they may add for large pots or particularly good dealers. It is wildly out of the norm for poker players to tip dealers on a percent basis.

Good vid, but I don't know about the hit and run thing. In a friendly game, for sure. But at a casino, I have no problem with hitting and running. I'm not interested in giving a bunch of strangers 'a fair shot' at winning their chips back. I'm outta there.

Totally. That was a lame-ass insertion that shouldn't even be there, and I DO NOT support the notion that one must EVER stay after winning to try to give other players a fair shot at getting what is now 100% YOUR MONEY back out of your rack of chips if you decide it's time to leave the game at ANY juncture. PERIOD. END OF STORY. It's YOUR money now, WITHOUT ANY STRINGS ATTACHED WHATSOEVER!! ! It's NOT anyone else's money anymore!! That's NOT how this shit works!! Do WHATEVER the hell you wanna do with YOUR chips--and FEEL FREE TO CASH THEM OUT WHENEVER YOU FEEL LIKE LEAVING THE GAME!! Are the other players going to feel obligated to give YOU another chance to win it back once more if they get lucky enough to win it back from YOU? Gimme a freakin' break, already!! I don't know what greenhorn or dumbass fool came up with # 9 in this video as a requirement of poker etiquette, but it's quite simply a bunch of nonsensical hogwash, and I hope that anybody who watches this video reads the comments about that so that they can get set straight on what the actual reality is here.

1 addition to the Houdini rule: Some players are well versed in the realm of patience & low vpip for that player to continue playing 3-4 hours after winning a big pot would bring less action to a game than a loose player such as myself continuing for 15 minutes, Worth Mentioning, FYI I agree with concept but splitting cat hairs is of the upmost importance!

Hit & run is only for irregular players. For regular players it can be problem in long run. Because once the others started recognize the player, 3 things will started to happen. 1. Professional or sharks will be very aggresive & the player will loose all chips before get good chance of winning. Sharks really hates hit & runners. 2. players with same skills will start hit & run whenever they play against hit & runner. 3. The worst thing will happen fishes are gonna just play few hand (sometimes just 1 or 2) for courtesy, then they will change the table or leave the casino. Trust me don't get shunned by sharks. Most important, always give fishes chance to win their money back, so they will loose more. 😂😂😂

#10 is basically false because anyone who plays poker at all knows you big denomination chip go out in front or on top of your stack. Also hit and run isn't that bad. The object of the game is to win chips/money. Doesn't matter if it takes you 10 hands or 100 hands. I can't stand it when players eat at the table. It leaves the cards a mess, sometimes the table and the space is already limited enough and then they want to pull up a table like there eating a TV dinner. Eat before or after your session or leave and come back. Most rooms will allow 30 minutes or so for a dinner break before picking up your chips.

"Keep your big chips on the bottom and smaller chips on top." Umm, no. Keep your big chips up front where they are visible to all. This is not only etiquette but an actual rule. "No eating at the table." People eat at the poker table all the time. It can be acceptable, but it's a question of what you're eating (ideally not greasy or smelly food) and how (ideally using a side table, not over the poker table).

i agree with most of what you said. but i have an issue with your tanking part. sure, if you do like vogelsang and just tank every time its on you, without actually having a real decision to make, then its bad and disrespectful. but your patrik antonius example was horrible - and im not just saying this to defend a poker hero. he had an absolute bluff catcher ( there was even some bluffs he couldnt beat) and it was a decision for all of his chips deep in a tournament. this is actually a prime example for when tanking is totally reasonable ...

There's nothing wrong with talking during a hand, but you should never be talking ABOUT the hand while it's in progress. The only exception is when you're in the hand and heads-up. Other than that having conversations is fine; but if the pot gets exceptionally large, it's a good thing for everyone to quiet down.

Splashing the Pot can get you ejected from a card room/casino. It's one thing to do it accidentally but continue to do it will for management to act. I don't have problem as a player and as a dealer with people eating at the table is not rude at all as long as you use napkins and observe normal eating etiquette. Plus, it keeps the action going at the table. Exposing your cards in the middle of the hand is a big no, no but if you want to show them as you toss them into the muck is up to you. Every poker player suffers bad beats and in some cases acting like a child can get you kicked out of a casino.

If there is a psychological advantage in poker, thanks for pointing out how to aggravate other players. If you want to gamble against the house, play any other casino game. If you want to take other people's money, try getting a thicker skin. If you break "etiquette" and win, you won. If you were distracted by being psyched out and lost, you lost. It's ultimately a game of strategy and chance. Nothing you do physically changes the outcome of what cards land where. Shut up and play

companies should be required to pay their workers enough that tips are not necessary. It should be charged up front at games (as part of the entry fee) so everyone pays their share (if tipping is required) This goes for all companies in every sector IMO

Your reasoning against splashing the pot is way off. It has nothing to do with keeping track of the pot (every dealer should be counting the pot as it develops and so should any player who considers themselves serious in any way about the game). You shouldn't splash the pot because the dealer and players may not see what your bet is before it becomes mixed with the rest of the chips. Then the dealer would have to take the time to count out the pot to find the amount of the bet. Also, you comments on tipping are a bit off. You do a great job describing what the tip is for, but you should recognize you have a global audience and not every dealer is allowed to receive tips, let alone relies on them as a significant portion of their income (though this is common just about everywhere in the US). And I don't think I've ever seen any cash player tip 1% of a pot. The most common stakes played are 1/2 or 1/3 and a typical pot in those games is $50-$100. No player is tipping $0.50 and if they get a monster $1,000 pot they're probably not tipping more than $5. Generally, at this level, players typical tip $1 per hand and maybe extra if there were contributing factors like an exceptionally large pot, a crazy suckout, dealing with an obnoxious player, or the hand took longer because of tanking or multiple pots due to all-in bets. On the other hand, when it comes to "jackpots" such as high hands and bad beats, typically the etiquette is 5-10%, depending on the size of the award. And tipping in poker tournaments typically requires more knowledge as to whether there's a gratituty already included in the buy-in, how many places are paid, and how much ROI you receive for cashing. A player winning $1,000,000 (pretax) on a $500 buy-in should tip a smaller percentage than a player who min-cashes for $1,000 and won't have their winnings garnished by taxes.
