Nice looking table and some good ideas. Especially like adding the pieces between the boards for the halving joint. It is a bit worrying what's going to happen with the base / top when the wood moves? Enjoy the intro and exit music. Thanks for the video. Cheers, David

This is a great looking table. Definitely will build one soon. I would just change up one thing. I'd recess the brackets into the base rather than the top. Much easier than cutting larger recesses for the whole bracket to make the two pieces sit flush.

Elongated holes on the brackets and slightly oversize mortises could allow wood movement in the junction between top and bottom, Four pocket hole screws, two beneath and two on top of the table base could stabilize the floating tabs of the half laps.

nice! you make it seem so easy dude, love your videos and thank you for the extreme detail in them! I'm really wanting to get into wood working at least for my home's furniture! Would you by any chance make a video of the level of sandings you do? The few pieces I've made ever don't turn as smooth as some of the other pieces I see all over the place by professionals so I'm thinking they go quite high in grit? or maybe it's a furniture maker secret ;)

I’ve watched all your videos and love them. Do you ever joint the face of the larger boards? I see you joint the side, and then usually plane the face. Is the wood already jointed on one flat face so you don’t need to?

Genuine question, why didn't you recess the brackets into the legs? Would that not have been easier?
@sethrogers5959
@sethrogers5959 Жыл бұрын
It would be easier but then the plate is not flush to the bottom of the table, so I'm sure he did it for aesthetics. Functionally either way would suffice.

Nice table and inspiring channel Jason. Is there a reason why you recessed the plates into the table top rather than the base?
@bradmarshall8220

All the edges of the plate will hide if you recess it into the table top and not the base since the plates stick out over the base edges.

Wanna find the center of a circle easier?? Draw a chord (a straight line that cuts your circumference twice) near the edge of your circle. Your chord length should be easily divisible by 2. Draw a perpendicular line at the center of that chord going through the center of the circle. Repeat this process at least once more, but in a different location so that your perpendicular line intersects the first. Where they cross will be the center. Do it more than twice for greater accuracy.

think your screw holes in the brackets for the table top should be oval/elongate in the perpindicular direction of the wood grain to allow for wood movement... also, given the weight and beastliness, screws set in end grain are really weak, like if the table, GASP, got knocked over the top could shear right off. Maybe an alternative bracket, like an "L" shape cross section (angle iron) would be better. You could make a "T" cross section and bury the handle of the T in the feet, then screw with some nice brass round heads... but that would take more time.
