Bicycles in Amsterdam are not that bad if you know the basics: * Don't walk on the bicycle lane but on the sidewalk. Red surface means: bicycle lane. * if you have to walk on the bike lane. Walk on the rigth side, Don't walk with 2 or 3 people next to each other; Don't suddenly change directions. * remember the cyclists are going to work, are running errands etc. They want to keep moving and not blocked by sigth seeing tourists. * If you have to cross a bike path, make eye contact. The cyclist will drive around you. Give enough room to cargo bikes, people who are transporting children on their bike, have bags hanging on their handle bars etc. That are cyclists for whom it is harder to swirl around you. We are perfectly willing and able to avoid collisions but it gets annoying if pedestrians are blocking the path, make sudden moves, stop abruptly

In Canada you're not actually allowed to bicycle while stoned or drunk, it's considered a vehicle, mostly to avoid injuries. "Oh Will, you're back as host!" "Stop talking to me, pleb."

Is that what's going on? I've been to the van Gogh several times and it's not at all difficult, or it wasn't back in the late 90s, L O L. I was there once when there was construction going on, and that made it a little more difficult. Perhaps it's popularity has increased since then.
