I used to be a club DJ when this came out, when i played it the first night and afterwards i said to the clients that to home and tell their Mum and Dad they were dancing to Herb Albert and the TIjunana Brass, they would not be believed for sure !!
@Nostaljack2 жыл бұрын
They weren't; they were listening to Herb Alpert solo. Of course, you know that. The Brass were done by this point. Herb was a very different (and funkier) performer without the Brass.

The story told is that when Puffy played this song for Biggie, Biggie laughed and hugged him. They knew they had a #1 hit on their hands. And the rest is history. Proof that songs like this are timeless.

Randy Alpert, Herb Alpert's nephew, liked Black music immensely (funk especially). Randy Alpert wrote Rise to be played on Black radio stations, incorporating elements found in music created by Black musicians. Other rappers had pitched to Randy Alpert, but Randy Alpert was so impressed by Biggie's flow and lyrics that he blessed off on it right away.

What a fucking pro, Herb holds his hand up as to ask for a little gain on his mike. However the sound man doesn't seem to get it he then proceeds to roll his eyes and continues on awesome

A great song, no doubt. This is supposedly the 'Jeff Lorber Band'. If you like this, you might really like the HA album 'Second Wind', recorded the same year, and produced by Jeff Lorber. It might be the best album I've ever heard, every track on it is great, and it likely features these musicians. (Lorber is hardly recognizable in this video). HA has recorded a lot of albums, but none nearly as good as 'Second Wind'.

The band obviously were not fans of Herb Alpert. Otherwise, They would not have carelessly trashed this timeless classic. I give all props to Herb, For being the amazing class act that he really and truly is. In the end of the song, however, It was only way too obvious that he could not wait to bail out from under the band, Its cheezy - assed performance, and Lack of respect This timeless classic Did not deserve. Herb Alpert deserves a far better sessions band Who actually care to play with a sold - out passion and Quality professional treatment Each and every last one of his classic songs deserve. These ass clowns should and must be banned from playing any major music festival due to the Abusive neglect of an elder statesman of the genre.

Can you be any more negative. The band rocked this song too. Do you think Herb Alpert wasn't smart enough to make these decisions himself? Do you play in a band. I'd love to hear you play.
