Just got my first bow about 3 weeks ago and I've been looking to improve my aim and shooting. I'm so glad I happened across this channel. I now realize that I was probably punching my release because the trigger was almost completely out of reach

Best informative video I have ever seen, WELL DONE ! I have been archery hunting almost 35 years and guided elk hunts for 25+ years, I learned more in this video than you might think. I have great days of shooting and bad days when I punch the trigger. I just tid wrapping my trigger finger all the way around the trigger and man, what a difference ! Just subscribed, keep them coming Josh.

James, I'm glad that you were able to see this video. I've been shooting a bow of some kind since 1963 and have tried about everything. This young fella KNOWS HIS ARCHERY!!! This technique of pulling thru the shot is really the very best way with any type release. All of his videos are excellent in knowledge and presentation. I enjoy watching him just to remind me not to get lazy and refresh my mind. Good Luck with working on your new technique.

I’ve always had such a terrible time broadhead tuning, this year especially so. Just got back from shooting this morning. I realized that all my life I had been holding onto the stem of the release. Letting go of this fixed my broadhead right deviation (right handed shooter). Thank you for the information, I feel so much more confident. Went from having broadhead issues at 20 yards to hitting a 3 inch group out to 50. Thank you!!

As a beginner my aim has improved a lot after taking these aim tips. Got a lot of bulls eyes today by proper placing it all. The new trigger release probably helped a lot too with less movement at release time. I just did not know how to position it all. I'm loving it now. Sweet.

Beginner here - applying these techniques helped so much. One question, what do you think of bow wrist slings? I’m finding different opinions (useful vs useless)
@BowOnlyOutdoors
@BowOnlyOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I love to hear that and glad you have found it helpful! Wrist slings are used to help shoot with an entirely relaxed hand and grip to prevent the bow from falling out of your hand onto the ground. As long as they are adjusted so they are loose on your wrist, there is no disadvantage to them, yet gives you the confidence to shoot with a relaxed grip/hand without fear of dropping your bow or reacting to grab your bow. Hope this helps!

Hi Josh, Can you please explain in more detail the correct procedure for activating the trigger. i.e. should one use the arm and not the the finger or envision pulling the elbow straight back with the back muscles. Oh and by the way great videos.
@BowOnlyOutdoors
@BowOnlyOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, this is perhaps different for every person, but I will give you my preference. I prefer to wrap and lock my finger on the trigger so it is rigid as I pull slow, smooth, and consistently backwards to basically allow the trigger to come into my finger. What is most important however is what you are consciously thinking about when executing. You MUST put your conscious thought into the MOVEMENT that causes your release to fire. In this case, that movement can be felt by continually adding pressure to the trigger until it fires. As long as you are building pressure on that trigger, it will fire. You must be able to feel the pressure building consistently until it fires. Just focus on keeping the pressure building steadily more and more until it fires. I achieve this best by activating the release as mentioned above and in the video. - JP

@@BowOnlyOutdoors Thanks JP, Your explanation really helps. I'm not new to archery, on the contrary I was shooting at age four. Of course this was in the sixties in what I believe is described now as bareback bow. I did own one of the original Browning compounds but shot with the finger release. Well I fell in love with the sport again and was happy to come across your great videos. They're really helping me with all the fundamentals which I know are so important in, as you correctly state many times, being consistent. Enjoy your day. God bless

Are you using the bowmar nose button? If so how do you like it?
@BowOnlyOutdoors
@BowOnlyOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I’ve only had it on for about a week and initially I didn’t like it. After shooting with it for a while I have personally found the larger one to be especially helpful on my Vertix because of the more severe string angle caused by the shorter axle to axle. It helps me keep my alignment centered easier than without it.

I'm struggling to figure out my anchor point. Part of my draw length seems good like the string touches my nose, but it seems like my release hand is back to far. I'm anchoring by my ear. I'll have to try the jawline as a anchor like you show. That looks comfortable and consistent. I just got a Hoyt Torrex Xt which is a short bow, I may want to try a nose button if I can't have the string touch my nose with the proper draw length. Thank you for such a helpful video.
@BowOnlyOutdoors
@BowOnlyOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! Double check the draw length on the bow and make sure the release is at the right length and it should feel much more comfortable and consistent.
@75superfan
@75superfan 4 жыл бұрын
Hopefully this will finally help me figure out my draw length where it should be set. Then my anchor point should be easy to get right after that. I read an article after watching this video about measuring your wingspan then divide by 2.5. If this works out I should have a draw length of 28" instead of 29" that I have now. Thank you again !!
