Fab looking course. Looks enjoyable. I thought you played well. Great putting so far. Looking forward to part 2

It was nice to be somewhere that was wide. Great for holiday golf. The back 9 is more hilly so glad I had a cart.

Well done Simon. +3 on that front nine is excellent, particularly that par 5 on the 7th!!! That "gentle breeze" that you played in is the norm down there, and from the normal direction (so it's always into on the 7th!!!). The whole set up there is very good, and good value for money, so it's ideal for a club weekend away (which is how I first got to know it). As for you going shopping.....!!!! Looking forward to part 2!

Neville, that's the easy 9 according to the Pro. The back 9 I found to be fun until I started falling apart. It was good value for money and so was the Pro shop. I got the kids some enamalled ball markers with my shoes and they just discounted everything including the golf cart. Saved me quite a bit. The 7th was the limit of my ability. If I had hit the fairway and hit a decent 3 wood the third shot would still have been very difficult. It took me ages to find that ball. I looked under the trees first, then had to do a 360 round the green which is why the 2 ball caught me. I was so relieved to find that ball otherwise I would have had to switch to stableford scoring.

@@thehairygolfer ah, but the important thing was that you did find it! The first time that I played the 7th I was partnered with a 36-handicap lady, in foursomes, who couldn't play to 136. We had, a very good, 13!!!! The rough there is lethal! I've only played it in the winter so just imagine those lies in the rough in the wet!!! I'll await the back, better, 9 with bated breath! Though I do hope that you didn't fall apart too much (no, of course you didn't, you're too good a golfer). As a betting man, I reckon that you're +3 coming back too!!!!

@@nevillehubbard7347 I have played quite a bit of mixed golf. The 9th at Gloucester springs to mind. 225 into the wind and I laced a 2 iron to 20 feet. She putted 20 feet past. We lost the hole. I enjoy making up for someone who doesn't hit it very far, I think it's part of my competitive streak. 15 was very hard as was the last. I think 12 was my favourite hole on the course. As to +3 you will have to wait and see.
@nevillehubbard73473 жыл бұрын
@@thehairygolfer yes, I too liked mixed matches, especially now my wife is playing (she's also quite competitive). We've had some good battles this season playing against other local clubs. I'd agree that the 12th is the nicest looking hole, with that little lake in front of the green to catch the unwary, 15 is a sod as that lake is in just the wrong place and 18 is just a long and unrelenting par 4 that, for me, was a wood to get close to the green with my second shot!
@thehairygolfer3 жыл бұрын
@@nevillehubbard7347 I didn't reach either of those 2 greens in 2. I didn't hit good drives on either one. 16 was a nice hole if I could have hit a decent tee shot. The shame of the trip was the weather was so bad I didn't get to play Bude. Even on the best day it was too windy. So I got to stand outside a lot of shops waiting for the other half to stop looking at crap from china.

Great upload Simon, wish my average play was as good as your, another unknown gem of a course, can't wait to see the back nine, cheers.

Kev, it's funny but when I get away from tight Lilley Brook the world looks a much bigger place. The 3 wood on the par 5 cleared the tree by inches! Could have been a different story altogether.

Got away with a few Simon, but very steady, controlled and accurate play. Had to laugh when you described the club as special, they must have been to get you to spend so much!!

The area round the clubhouse and hotel was really pretty. The putting green also. The shoes I bought retail at 209. Most places seel them at 189. Barnwood at 169 but they don't have any stock. They had them for 145. Credit card made an outing. It was nice to play a wide golf course for a change. Why didn't I use a wedge on 9 to get out of that juicy stuff? Ego I suppose. Cheers Andy

Beautiful looking course! I like how most of it is open. Hell of a par on that long ass par 5! 650 yards, oh yeah, just love those long holes! Longest par 5 I played was about 712 yards. I made the mistake of trying to kill the ball and it cost me several strokes. Great advice on not to swing hard on these long holes. Better to be a little short but in the fairway verses buried in the rough of behind some trees. Great vid Simon!

Hi Mark, every course I play looks so much wider than my own club! I'm glad I played that hole at only 600 and the 3 wood cleared the tree by inches. One of the long ones i played In Thailand has a lake that means you can't hit driver for your tee shot. I went 3 wood, 3 wood, 3 wood that left me 30 yards and then holed the putt for a birdy 5. 710 I think it was. The back 9 is a little harder.

Great video Simon. I like the music in this one. I need to work on saving the pars and bogeys. I shot 94 today with 2 quads and a triple. Could have been a new personal best but I couldn't stop the bleeding on a few holes.

Getting rid of the big numbers will drop your score like a stone. Easy to say, not so easy to do. I always put music in then I don't have to talk!

Your odd bad shot is usually not far off line my bad shot lands in another county resulting in a score card wrecker , love the shot tracker in your videos .You manage to score well even if you aren't playing well , cheers for the video

Well my odd bad shot last sunday saw a ball out of bounds and then a lost ball. Handicap is now 5.1 which gives me 6 at Lilley Brook. The wedge and the putter saves me a ton of shots. But not every day. The shot tracer is useful for those who watch on a phone. It's not accurate and wants to turn big turns into something straighter. The start and the end aren't far off it's just the curve that is wrong. I don't have a lens for zooming into a green and I wouldn't go dashing behind the camera to do so. Thanks Berry

Smoke and mirrors your scoring well and that's the real name of the game. That strike with the 8 iron was great. You've cured the pull for now. Not the finish you wanted

The pull comes and goes Brian. Cost me 4 shots in the sunday comp and my index is now 5.1 so I get 6 shots. I think I've got rid of the pop up drive though. Got my second lesson on monday so maybe that will iron out a few wrinkles. Nice to play 9 holes on my handicap though.
