Grace, Beyoncé is an elder act and doesn’t bring in the teens as much as she did in her earlier days. Prince in 2004 had the most successful concert tour in North America and he did a one day viewing of his concert and that did very modest-granted it wasn’t a wide release or shown for weeks. But at that time Prince was the elder act. The teens have the time to go more than once were adults do not. Taylor is at the peak of her popularity. In ten years she will be the elder act.

The Boy and the Heron already made 70 million in South Korea and Japan. It's total now is 97 million world wide. It's budget was 100 million. In comparison Strange World in its entire run was 73 million on a 180 million budget. When you do movie math, Grace, you should really highlight the actual math behind it or at least show an analysis that reflect those numbers. Strange World just further tarnished the Disney brand, where The Boy and the Heron still has some of the Miyazaki magic. Their IMDB scores respectively: 7.6 and 5.7.

A huge win for Studio Ghibli a well deserved win for a masterpiece studio and beloved amazing talented creator that deserves it. Can you please stop down playing it when anime makes it on the top in the holloywood box office , that’s a huge win , and its largest opening for studio Ghibli in the US which is massive , you really need to understand the anime box office as a whole before you jump into to discuss I feel you continue to ignore that market and when it continues to get in the top 10 it’s obvious that you still don’t understand when it’s a win and not because oh it’s niche or oh it’s only on the top 10 because Hollywood is struggling and not the fact that anime continues to capture a larger audience as the animation as stories continue to gain ground, let’s face it US animation is turning to crap and more and more are looking to anime and beloved studios like Ghibli to fill that hand draw animation and stories to fill that market that is gone and only CG in the us.

I saw Godzilla Minus One this morning, and my goodness that has fast become one of my favorite Godzilla movies I’ve seen because it showcases a complete story arc for its leading characters! I don’t quite ‘get’ the alt right praise for the movie because of some elements of the story that I refuse to spoil, but I definitely enjoyed my time at the cinema today. I will say, however, that if you saw Shin Kamen Rider earlier this year like I did… the female leads are played by the same actress. I noticed that right away but I didn’t look it up till just now and my hunch that the characters were played by the same actress was right on the money. As far as what I plan on watching this week? I would've agreed with your statement had these two "foreign " films had numbers resembling normal blockbusters. But instead we're talking a 12 million opening for a animator with a strong cultish movie following here in the US and an 8 million 2nd weekend for a modestly budget entry in a fanchise thats having a high point with ti coming alongside a well written streaming series and on the heels of Godzilla vs kong, which was well liked and well received . As Grace points out,.these numbers are really just far too low to signal some type of artistic sea-change in the US movie align experience . Had Godzillla opened like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and the Miyazaki film opened like Super Mario bros then you'd be on to something,..LoL

@@terryshrk Everything's relative. It's not even in English, not even dubbed, not nearly in as many theaters as The Hunger Games and yet it's playing its heart out and people are responding. What can I say about Ghibli films? Even Spirited Away didn't draw the numbers that you say constitute a blockbuster, but it doesn't have to. The Boy and the Heron is a great film, and while I wish more people would go out and watch it, it doesn't mean that it does not deserve a larger audience. I mean, look at the voice actors they have for the English dub. That speaks volumes in itself. I do hope people watch more foreign films. Years ago, I was in shock as I finished watching Cinema Paradiso. Tornatore's film is a masterpiece, even if it didn't have the box office numbers of your typical American film. The last scene, when Salvatore sits down in the room to watch that reel, was a masterclass in acting and storytelling. And the film score is one of Ennio Morricone's greatest works.

@@vincem3393 Apparently, the audience, at least in the last year, are collectively not entertained. It was bound to happen. If the only thing you give people are sequels to movies nobody cared about to begin with, or rehashes that are not nearly as good as the original, or just plain STUPID movies, this is exactly what you get. Until someone makes movies that people care about, then well, you'll get the depressed landscape that you have. Are there movies out there that are as interesting as "Lost in Translation" or as grand as "Lawrence of Arabia"? At this point, many would settle for great comedies like Tootsie or Caddyshack. Unfortunately, I don't think the writing ability present in many studios are capable of even writing something like "There may be honor among thieves, but there's none in politicians." The majority of writers employed by studios today are inane or worse. Watching beige paint dry paints a more colorful world than many of these so called writers can even imagine.

We are talking about the legendary Hayao Miyazaki and possibly the last studio Ghibli film. As for Godzilla, a movie with a budget of $15 million is a HUGE win. By not mentioning some of these details it is as if you intentionally wanted to minimize these movies, heck, you haven't even seen the movies, is it because they are foreign and not Western? Minus one won't negatively impact the monstervers. Godzilla fans want both. Especially for those of us that grew up with the Godzilla vs. movies, while we appreciate Minus One especially for making it so Toho isn't completely out budgeted into irrelevance when it comes to Godzilla, the Godzilla x Kong new empire trailer has us hyped in a crazy way cause no matter how good a movie critically Minus One is, it's more of a character study movie with Godzilla in it, while Godzilla x Kong feels like a Godzilla movie. Plus the monstervers seems to be giving fans more and more of what we love and are demanding, more Kaiju less people. But the most beautiful thing about it for us is we can have both! Two great versions of Godzilla to enjoy and a seemingly crazy blast to look forward too, we're eating so good right now! Let us feast... Let... them... FIGHT!❤

While I’d in no way say that the Monsterverse is a masterpiece, acting like it’s somehow a betrayal to the Godzilla brand or tone is just ridiculous. Minus One harkens back to 1954 and the Monsterverse goes with more of a Showa vibe. TBH most Godzilla movies are goofy shlock, which is fine.
