Great tips! Never considered the 1st one and nobody really told me. But I used to spar a guy who would look down and strike up and the other way around. This is a great way to fool smbdy and I adobted this trick from him. Expecially when sparring a less experienced guy -just a quick look at the guts and bam -headshot. It's like faking it, but better :P

One more thing, although it is related to kick boxing, if you are doing the wrong shot in the body, as the man said, and showed, in combination for example left jab, right body shot, opponent often tries to hit you with right leg kick after your jab (or simultaneously with your jab), and if you leave that opening between the elbow and the body, he will slip his shin in your ribs. Yet again JT Van V did phenomenal tutorial video. Often I look at a martial arts training videos, and this guy is doing the best ones. I salute you from Serbia!

3Kings617 umh you should actually go to a gym and train there, you should at least know your basics like: your stance, how to move forwards, backwards and sideways, your basic jab and straight. without your basics your punches would be floppy, weak and easy to dodge. this video is actually more for those who are on boxing or did boxing and trying to improve at home, i not trying to say you should stop watching it but i just try to inform you it is better to go to a actual boxing gym.

Soon as you got to the bit about elbow position I realized I've been doing exactly what you warned against. I think part of the cause for this bad habit is the desire to throw punches as hard as possible. Better to throw with 75% power with good technique than load up for a haymaker that won't land anyway. Thanks for the tips, keep em coming.

Hey JT Van V, quick question. I can bang to the body with decent power but I find it difficult to find my range when it comes to body shots. Sometimes I just jab, then get them used to seeing a jab, then feint it and go to the body and it does work but then I end up smothering my own work by stepping in too close. Any ways or training tips to avoiding that? Like I either end up over-reaching and being very open or stepping in TOO close and not being able to follow up the body shot with any combinations. Thanks!
@PrecisionBoxing9 жыл бұрын
Yes, the key is to develop power in close, not try to get the perfect range. You have to develop your inside game

great video, thanks. i was wondering how you generate power with your lead hand, i have tried to use some method as the other hand, however the rotation of the waist seems akward when i try it.
@PrecisionBoxing9 жыл бұрын
Alastair Baird lead hand power for a straight comes from driving off the back foot. For the hook its shoulder/waist rotation. You have to improve these aspects
@allstair42129 жыл бұрын
JT Van V thanks for the reply. so just to confirm, body shots on the lead hand should be more of a jab or a hook driving off the back foot, rather than an uppercut type of body shot as shown in the video for the rear hand?
@PrecisionBoxing9 жыл бұрын
Alastair Baird no, body shots off the lead hand are rotation of shoulders and hips with the hand driving forward. dont think about the back foot.

This is a great video and helped my technique but i have a problem this video didn't completely solve. I have pretty good technique when throwing punches but i don't necessarily have alot of strength, however, i have great hand speed. But when I throw my body shots they seem MUCH weaker and sometimes my sparring partners aren't even hurt by them and they seem to have no affect. I have talked to one of my friends i spar with and he said my headshots are just as good as any other boxer but my body shots feel weak. I am fairly new to boxing so i don't know if this is a common problem or not, please help.
@PrecisionBoxing9 жыл бұрын
Mark Doty There will always be something weak about your game. I have good body shots, but my left hook is weak. The key to developing something is to put extra time into it.

Do you think it's ever smart to sacrifice speed for power? In this case, it seems to me that you could generate more power on the shovel hook if your elbow goes back a bit. Maybe it's smart to train both a static elbow and a more dynamic, loading up, type of punch?
@AJweathersby10 жыл бұрын
Cocking back punches never gives you more power. I think the only boxing punches that get more power from any cocking back motion are overhands and wide hooks. But those kind of punches are fairly easy to block for most boxers even when those punches have sharp technique. So making them wide and powerful is more likely to get you countered than anything else. Unless, of course, you've already beaten the guy down and now you're just trying to finish him with a super punch. Otherwise, the rule of thumb for punches is to throw them in the way that makes contact the fastest. Power means nothing if you can't land a solid hit.

same thing i am thinking when punch coming from wide range can be more powerful to damage opponent

Ryan Vancouver i saw someone on this comment section who made a very good point, keeping your elbow close allows for a more relaxed shoulder and thus more power and speed =)

But how can you get power with a liver shot without bringing your elbow out because the way your showing us is the left uppercut to the face but what about the left body shot to the liver Thanks
@skip741x36 жыл бұрын
Power on the liver shot comes from Driving the shot ,keeping the elbow in and using the hips to send it in.. Its the prescion of this shot and the drive behind it that makes it effective as a liver shot... You are likely thinking of the elbow out ,around the side type shot which can become a slapping motion if done carelessly..This type as shown here is more a Sticking motion,where it is Driven and directed into the liver area.
